can anyone tell me if the iPad can play Mafia Wars and Farmville on facebook? I need to know for my wife, if it can't she won't want it.

If they're Flash-based, then no. But it shouldn't take long at all for Facebook to make iPad-friendly adjustments. It's in their best interests to do so, anyway.

I cannot wait for mine to come

The reviews and positive news have certainly changed my opinions of the iPad.

It looks like a killer piece of technology. :D Enjoy new owners!

iFixit tear down

the iFixit teardown is up, guts are pretty simple. Logic board uses a T3, looks like I'll be adding to my  tool kit.

Also, why would you let your wife decide not to make a $500+ purchase based on a stupid flash game? on facebook no less. Bet you still bought an iPhone even though it doesn't play them...

Ah, it's like Windows 95 launch events all over again.

But seriously, how do people find the keyboard, compared to typing on a real full-size? Do you feel more/less worn out over time, if you've tried typing for a substantial amount of time? Can I use stylus plus handwriting recognition? Finally, anyone trying VNC/Remote Desktop on it? Cheers ears.

THAT VIDEO... so sad.

People are screaming and making triumph signs as if buying a product is something of merit and accomplishment. So stupid. It's a limited platform computer! I can understand wanting one, but this kind of misdirected euphoria is disgusting.

I'll get one myself later this year when they debug it all and add some more stuff onto the device. It isn't going to save my life, like these people are acting, just going to make mobile computing more convenient.
Heaven forbid people are happy for something. If only the world was full of complaining cynics like yourself.

No kidding who asks their wife about an 500+ (bare minimum how about you factor sales tax and mac care too?) purchase ....

Flash is a rancid platform. It's totally in their best interests.

Can anyone tell me if the iPad music player actually displays LYRICS. The user manual makes no mention of it. That would be HIGHLY disappointing for me, and would definitely be a deal breaker.

Also, there doesn't seem to be a iPad support category on Apple's forum site. That's weird.

The iPhone displays lyrics if you have added them to the song, so I would assume the iPad does as well, but I do not know for sure.

So, there was no "surprise" or "one more thing" involved? If so, why was there so much secrecy and security involved? I'm starting to wonder what they were hiding.

In any case, I wont be picking one up until I see what this device can really do and if it's worth it for me. So far my lil' Macbook Pro does everything I need in a portable domain.

And oh yeah, neither the iPad nor the Macbook Pro fits in my pocket. So it's hard to justify the iPad on the "portability" front.

I have a MBP and setting it up as a portable from my POV isnt as simple as grabbing an 8x11 sized iPad for email and such.
I like the simplicity of it all without having to deal with external everything.
Yes I have an iPhone but curling up with the iPhone on the couch isnt as comfortable as it sounds.

mamma miaaaaa - it's a friggin iPad guys !

MacRumors you are losing it around this thing - page 1 is an iPad list of titles about nothing.

whats all the fuss about. Have you seen an iPhone before ?

(I don't mean to offense anyone nor am I trying to be a troll)

Being a person live outside the U.S. I have no opportunity to get my hands on this wonderful device so I fed myself with the User Guide.

But it seems to have no difference than an iPod Touch User Guide, except the screen shots (which are very similar too).

I think the difference should be in the quality of apps.

It never ceases to amaze me how many parts there are, how complex they are, and how tightly integrated the device is, to fit all that in such a compact space.

There is provision for an antenna at the "Apple Logo Port", and at a rectangular section on the 3G model. This thing may actually get good reception. The audio channels on the inside remind me of a Bose system.

Everything is roundrect and rounded triangle.

Near as I can tell the largest source of production material waste is the cutouts on the steel frames. Someone somewhere has several trash bins full of that stuff and it's about to get worse! These things are selling.

Steve and crew, that is a work of art.

Flash is terrible, and everyone is going to start going to HTML5 soon anyways. Flash sites always have tons of bugs because people dont program is correctly, plus its a CPU hog and slows everything down.

Apple is just once again ahead of the curve. Remember when people laughed at Apple for not putting floppy disk drives in their macs anymore? Less than a year later everyone follow their lead.

From what I've read about iPad, I think it'll sell well. Maybe I'll even buy one in a couple of years. For now though, a small laptop with matte screen for about the same money will be far more useful to me. As Apple don't do anything less than the 15" MBP with a matte option, it'll have to be a Win 7 job.

FWIW, I have 2 Macs that I regard very highly, so will likely continue to buy Mac desktops in future. Point is, there's a fair few Mac owners who don't readily buy into everything with an Apple logo on it.
