I've been contemplating the iPen but worried about the $$. My boyfriend bought me a stylus and its terrible for sketching. Cregle's kickstarter page says its just like a "ball-point" pen (see below), is this true? I've been reading mixed reviews??? Does anyone here have the iPen and is it worth the money? I've looked at others like this and they're hella expensive!

"Precision handwriting,
**************** Just like a high-quality ball-point pen!

The Cregle iPen transforms the iPad into a content creation device, not just a content consumption device. iPen is the first active digitizer stylus that allows you to write with precision directly on the iPad. Unlike the passive digitizer used in the typical iPad stylus, iPen writes like a real pen with accurate positioning and palm rejection features that passive products simply cannot achieve.

With the Cregle iPen’s active digitizer, the attached receiver picks up the iPen’s signal and its precise position as it hovers above the screen (whereas a passive stylus can be located only when the user touches the screen). This crucial advantage allows iPen to actively transmit 60 samples per second to pinpoint the pen’s exact location."

oye! I had to re-regiseter at least 3 times to comment on this site! plz fix this macrumors!

'carebearsmeh', the ipen is a digital pen using same tech as your home remote vs the touch capacitive pen your boyfriend likely bought you. i have the apen and it works ok but not perfect. the ipen seems like a rebranded version of the apen to me. I have read so many negative things about cregle that I would be reluctant to even think about doing business with them. for me, the ipad is good for surfing the web and playing the occasional game but thats about it. drawing on the ipad is a bust. peope seem to want it to be a laptop and now pen and paper??? it was designed to be a tablet, nothing more. just my 2 cents...

Ok thanks, doesn't really answer my question but..

I have to disagree with you, I thinnk the ipad is capable of more than people think. It seems limitless as I never would've thought some of this possible with the 1st ipad. Ive seem some pretty amazing sketches that people have done on the ipad.

I'm just not unsure about cregle based on what im reading. maybe Ill wait and see if the technology improves. WIsh Apple would release a pen!

I'm actually now contemplating the adonit touch and starting to regret buying the ipen :( When it arrives, if it arrives, and if I don't like it I'm going to return it to buy that when it comes out (next month??)

Yea it would be nice if Apple would recognize the need for a pen. I mean, fingerpainting is ok, but not for detailed drawing. I also dont want to take a apple wireless keyboard with me to school every time and so far am not happy with other companies keyboards for the ipad.

So I'm interested in these devices. I have an intuos 4 and love it, but would like to sketch on the go. Can anyone tell me which one seems to work the best? There is so many stylus, pens and accessories for the iPad that I don't know what to get?

Sorry, this is my first post so please be patient with me if this was answered!

I am a stylus fanatic. I have tried a lot. For me the jot pro skipped too much , I might try the Bluetooth version after it is out for a while just bc of my bad experience.
I did just get the by zero and so far I love it, I know it will really work nice when more apps jump on board but for now their basic plus and good notes work just fine. Would love to see notability work. Note shelf said they are waiting for by zero to send them a pen to test but will be ready with cregle in April.

I have not had any problems with by zero since I got it. I will post a more detailed review when I am back on my keyboard.

So my ipen arrived on Friday. Here are my impressions:

1) it is pretty accurate And responsive (with goodnotes). I typically did about 5-6 calibration points.
2) it is better for cursive than printing. This is an issue for me since my note taking is typically printing.
3) I don't like how the receiver disables a bunch of freatures on goodnotes.
4) I'd doesn't work with the zoom feature- which is very annoying.
5) I find I can print better using the zoom feature than using the ipen without it.
6) doesn't work with the iPad in landscape mode very well
7) loses calibration after a while

I really want to like this ipen, but I think I'm probably going to return it. Lugging around a stylus AND receiver is a PIA. And I don't like having to calibrate it constantly. This technology is getting there, but it just isn't there yet (for my purposes). I'd I we're someone doing sketching--this would be perfect.

How do I go about getting a refund?

I've still got the packaging although it's obviously opened, and the batteries have been installed. I think that Cregle completely over sold this product on their Kickstarter page. They gave the impression that ProCreate was supported, and I can't believe how far off the tracking is!

Problem is, I am over in the UK - how do I even go about requesting a refund, what about postage costs? Should Cregle cover this? Am I best off just chalking this up as a lesson learnt and swallowing the loss? This is pretty much what I'd accepted, but I have now received an invoice from FedEx for Duty/Tax charges, and that really pees me off on top of everything else....

I think Cregel needs to improve on replying to their customers and their support. My ipen finally arrived, but I didn't get my tracking number until a day or so before it came (they never answered any of my emails). I would probably never try to return it as I'd be afraid i'd end up with no ipen and no refund.

I do like it, but difinitely takes some getting used to and Ghostwriter notes is awful. Procreate is adding support though with their next release! I read about it here . But don't know when its coming out. Hope its soon cause I don't really like ibis paint that much.

Procreate will not support the iPen or By-zero's pen in 1.6. Source

The hunter shoots the early bird....

Sigh.... what a waste of money. Oh well, try and think of it in terms of you entire lifespan - it's an insignificant amount then! Smarts a bit at the moment though.......

I've been looking at http://www.nomadbrush.com/
I don't know anyone that's using them but I'm considering getting one of the cheaper child's range for my grandkids to try out and see how that goes.

Well after a few days-5- of using the Byzero pen i have decided to return it.
It did work rather nicely but some of its limitations really turned me off for now. I think i am going to wait a little while until some others become available as well as more applications support the pens.
I emailed Note shelf and they said they are still waiting on Byzero to send them a pen to test- so i expect they wont be supported anytime soon, Notability said they are considering a few pens to support- not sure which ones...
I really have no issues taking notes with my Acase 2 or caseen and if the rubber starts to hang i usually put a dab of rainx on the screen and it flys like butter.
Luckily the byzero is forsale on amazon so a return was easy- but the pen was alot more than the ipen.

Sorry I haven't provided any feedback on mine as of yet. As a quick update for now, I'm really loving the iPen with Goodnotes. Hardly any lag at all and very accurate after calibrating with 8 or 9 points. I'm more than happy with the accuracy and usability of the iPen.

Customer service from cregle is horrible. Before you purchase, they're right on it. Afterwards, they ignore you. Ive asked twice for return information and have been ignored. Thankfully I paid with PayPal so I just opened up a case to get a refund.

Beware of this company.

Conceptually sounds great, but it seems like there are still some early-onset issues as well as the fact that it's not universally capable.

All the styli out there are just not responsive enough to be able to write efficiently...
