Samsung recalls a phone for improvement because people start removing the screen or shoving clay into the hinge and it's "epic fail"

Apple releases a phone that can't fulfil it's primary function and it's "oh well, I hope when I buy the next one it's better, or the one after that"

The screen will still have yellow tint issues and the signal with intel will be garbage, I’m sorry but my whole year with Xs max has been waiting and praying iOS updates will fix my call drops and nope nothing it’s hardware and now it’s gonna be the same, Apple it’s a phone not a camera sort it out

Not sure since when apple has been using Intel modems, but on iPhone X and also on my XS Max, people will interrupt me and say things like "I can barely are what you are saying" to which I would reply "Meh its an iPhone, sorry. This is very embarrassing and I hate Apple for this, for giving us a second or third rate modem while making billions in profits.

Meanwhile this is me at lunchtime in the middle of Tempe, AZ. XS Max, T-Mobile.

Pathetic. To be honest, if the iPhone Pro turns out to be the same kind of useless crap, we should keep exchanging these devices, reasoning the particular phone doesn’t even hold up to 2010 telecommunication standards, until it starts hurting Apple at the singular point they care about nowadays: money.

The iPhone 11 is without any doubt the worst update yet and Intel 4G modem is likely to receive 50% less signal.

There hasn’t been a more skippable generation of iPhones like this in some time. Maybe the most skippable.
The XS was way more skippable.

The 11 gives us the ultra-wide camera which is a obvious benefit for those who use their phone for photography - basically the biggest iPhone camera update since the iPhone 7 Plus.

The XS gave us... a slightly faster CPU? Slightly more water resistance?

what XS gave us, also 11 gave but even better...18W, even better camera, water/glass resistance, better battery life, better display with 2mil to 1 accuracy, 4x optical zoom etc

X was the biggest upgrade in the last years
11 was the second one
Xs third one

iPhone 12 will surpass the 11 to take the second place after they will make the notch smaller, slimmer bezels, 5nm with integrated 5G so less battery drain and less heat than current 5g android models, 6gb Ram, probably 128/256/512gb storage, QC instead of Intel and usbC port

This is part of why I also carry an Android phone. I’ve been having this problem for years even on iPhones equipped with Qualcomm modems. The mics weren’t the best, either, and it showed in crappy audio on my videos. It took me getting a Galaxy S7 and an HTC 10 to show me how much Apple has been shortchanging us on sound all these years.

That being said, my iPhone XR has been a decent phone (in my rural usage) and video audio has been good. My Samsung has been better, but my Pixel 3XL has been worse but acceptable. So iPhone has been middle of the road. Judging from some audio samples I’ve heard in reviews so far, that may be about to change. I can’t wait for Friday to find out.

Never had speed issues with intel modems tbh. Here’s a speed test done from inside my home though thick walls on EE in the UK with a iPhone XS.

Another speed test riding home this time on a jam packed Skytrain with hundreds of others all using their phones.

Yup, Intel modem complete useless garbage. /s

Well, to be fair, Canada has excellent cell networks in populated areas. I've had Rogers and Bell over the past 11 years, and have been extremely happy with both.

Geeze! 11 years! I remember my first iPhone 3G. Such exciting times!

It seems to me that everyone who has great speeds are outside the US.

The US is a massive area to cover effectively with cell networks. Compare that the vastly smaller countries with a dense population and you have a very different cost-per-capita.

Explain. The iPhone 11 is a great phone. It's just that not every region plays nicely with it.

I've never had issues either with my XS Max.I am with Virgin Mobile who use EE's signal. The issue mainly seems to be with US carriers.

Damn I’m so glad I’m not 1 of those people that’s never satisfied. There are people holding onto iPhone 6s/7s because they’re “not impressed” and are waiting for some crazy features lmao it blows my mind.
I am in the same boat with you. I use my phone for text, internet and calls and just want reliable connection but mostly it has to do with carriers which needs to improve coverage. Currently I am more disappointed with the carrier than I am with my phone.

I have noticed that, I have seen some cases here in the UK but not many. Ive not had dropped calls either, my old iPhone 7 was lousy for call quality and when I received the XS people remarked on how clear it was. Now I'm updating to the 11 Pro 256GB because with how things worked out the new phone cost me about £660 all in (a unexpected cheque and good resale value on my XS). Not bad for the updated camera longer battery life etc which are important to me. I'll skip next year and wait for new hardware bugs to be fixed.

5G is not a big thing for myself as I live in a rural area and the network will take time to build out, I would rather wait for version 2 of a new shaped iPhone or version 3 if the same pattern continues with 3 years of the same body design then upgrade once its been tweaked and made more into the phones it maybe could have been at launch. I'm sure Apple has most of the features locked down a few years in advance anyway, but they milk consumers by playing the he update the feature game over the course of a few years. Or not and I'm just way to cynical ;)

Prediction: Half those features likely won't pan out, and many people will also be disappointed by next year's iPhone. I suspect all the folks who are convinced that this is the wrong year to upgrade have an overly optimistic view of the future.

Agreed. That "radical redesign" *might* be flat edges, ala iPad Pro. That's it.

Bollocks! A huge reason I despised the X, Xr, Xs, and so on was no Qualcomm modems. Intel’s were horrible with speed and connectivity. I’m still extremely excited to get the 11 Pro. I retired my bigger cameras until I can afford Sony’s newest A series mirrorless. But I’ve been using the Xs Max for the past 3 weddings, two engagement shoots, and most everything else. It’s become my main camera with moment andlenses.) BUT, I guess the 2020 iPhone WILL BE the big kahuna.

The Intel vs Qualcomm modem debate has become such an echo chamber here that I think no one really knows the real difference.

Frankly, I doubt there is any real world difference and what little there might be, wouldn’t be noticeable.

No way Apple releases yet another phone with Intel modems if this wasn’t tested fully.

Intel Modem just isn't as good as Qualcomm. It isn't echo Chamber but real life observation from many. That is in edge cases and weak spots. Comparing Intel Modem and Qualcomm in Mid to Perfect Signal is like comparing two F1 cars in fastest to 100Mph test, they will both be great with little difference. The problem comes with spots that we used to have some signals, to now no signals, and those that used to have weak signals and could still slowly use the Network, to now with weak signals that doesn't even load.

There were quite a lot of Firmware upgrade over the course of last year fixing Intel Modem. And hopefully with New Modem and new RF front end, things would be even better this year. It is highly unlikely it will be as good as Qualcomm, but may be this year it is edging toward negligible.

Yah, I wouldn’t blame that on your modem lol. Looks like it’s more your signal from T-Mobile or your on a cramped campus Wi-Fi to me. Basing it off your screen shot.
[doublepost=1568805399][/doublepost]
mine does that too. It’s INFURIATING.

Doesn’t mean it’s necessarily the modem. It may be your service provider. You may also be considered a lower tier customer to others and the network de-prioritized your service during congestion. All based off what service provider, plan, time of day, and location you fall into.
