Hi
I am in the market looking to upgrade from my 8 plus to the new 11. But I have read various reports on the new iphones running too hot even while performing basic tasks like scrolling or typing. Sometimes even to the extent of being too hot to touch ending up with the temperature warning displayed on screen. There are also a few videos on you tube with one from a battery drain test where the iphone 11 got exceptionally hot. Several users complaining on the apple forums as well. I don’t have the links right now as I have been reading all this over a period of a few days now. I know such reports about the phone running hot are common for this time of the year with new phones just being released. But such reports are making me think twice about pulling the trigger as I live in India where we do not benefit from Apple’s return policy. Also Apple recently brought about some change where the users with battery replacements done from non authorised service providers would be shown a warning regarding this. A user on Apple forums posted about her new iphone 11 showing this same warning and then running out of battery. Maybe some recent tinkering on Apple’s part causes this abnormal battery drain and high temperatures???
I just wanted to know about the experiences of the people who bought any of the new iPhones especially the 11. Maybe your positive experiences would instill enough confidence in me to buy or the other way round. I would appreciate everyone to chime in so maybe we can get a general consensus of the feelings here regarding how serious the issue really is...

I am returning my iphone 11 pro 256 model. I can't believe my luck...the phone drains battery about 1% every 7-10 minutes doing basic tasks like reading on a web page. The device also gets hot for no reasons. Running is 13.1.2 and have been tested with no restore data with no apps aside from default apps installed and I get battery drain faster than ever. My iphone 11 did not have these issues.

There could be something wrong with the iphone 11 pros I will either order another and test or just give up the small form and go with another iphone 11 pro max.

The phone was reset to blank 3 times also hard rebooted multiple times and still drains battery. In fact as further tests all services turned off and still battery drain. The particular issue I got was the back near the cameras (not on cameras themselves but around the right of the cameras) it got warm and then hot but not burning hot just hot enough to notice.

My iphone pro max would sit with no screen timeout for 40 minutes and not drop a single %

Did you try already DFU restore? The two times I had similar issue on different iPhone in the past was solved with DFU reset. Please note after DFU reset you can't load a previous iPhone backup, or the problem will restart. You have to configure as new iPhone, entering your AppleID and downloading one by one all your apps..

This seems in line with the experiences I read about. But seems hard to believe that only the iphone pro is affected by this. I guess the problem must be present in all three iphone models. Its just triggered for some people. I have now at this point read about all three models behaving the same way from one source or the other.
Thanks for sharing your experiences. Please keep them coming. We can then get a broader idea of the extent of the issue.

I keep reading about people having heat issues, but so far I haven't had any issues. The phone does get slightly warm sometimes, but nothing out of the ordinary.

I have noticed the 11 Pro Max is running cooler than my XS Max was running. Things like heavy download while charging at same time. The download of apps and pictures, music the Pro also was noticeably cooler than the XS.

REturned mine already! I will wait for another in-stock to test out. SO far it has been disappointing...especially paying the 256gb model pricing :(. I do not know how everyone is testing this iphone 11 pro model to surpass the iphone 11 because mine was dropping 1% up to ten minutes at a time doing nothing but watching a webpage displayed at the lowest brightness!

It got hot in terms of being way way warmer than normal doing nothing either. The phone was essentially a blank phone with no email, no syncing of anything, just bare bones activated phone with LTE disabled/cellular radio off. Wifi on, however.

I am starting to believe there is a production batch of iPHone 11 pro’s that are defective.

I agree. My Pro Max seems to be running cooler than my XS Max. That’s about the only good thing so far. :)

My iPhone XR was doing this. I had set that phone up from a backup of my iPhone 8 Plus.

This time even though it was a big pain in the butt, I started as new. My iMessages and photos were all retrieved from the cloud but I installed apps and signed into them fresh and new. I love my 11 pro. I get excellent battery life. It only got warm a few times the first couple of days setting everything up. After that, cool as a cucumber except in my pocket in 80F days. It even kept its cool when I was taking a lot of photos and videos at a family gathering in dim lighting at a restaurant. I’ve had other phones get pretty hot under similar conditions.

I think it would help if everyone along with their experience mentions whether they set the phone up as new or restored from a backup. There must be some differentiating factor for people to have such contrasting experiences.

11 Pro Max set up from backup of a XS Max on 9/20. Currently on 13.1.2
No heat issues or unusual battery drain. Battery life has been stellar in my experience.

11 Pro Max 512 GB set up from iCloud backup of XS Max 512 GB. Set up from iCloud backup each time since 5S Plus. Pro runs cooler than XS Max, battery lasts way longer. No issues

I do close out all apps in background, restart phone, create fresh backup before starting transfers or installing new IOS versions. Never had problems.
