I saw it... and it does, indeed, have a lot of good info... but should have been titled as the info thread.... not the preorder/delivery thread... but that's just my opinion....

I've always rolled my eyes over the past years about the preorder threads popping up days and weeks ahead of time.....

What’s the benefit to ordering through Apple vs AT&T if you’re using the Next program?

Twofold (as someone who has done both)

1. Better stock usually from the Apple Store
2. the iOS App is just a lot smoother than AT&T's website

I believe it has to do with your eSIM (if you are using one). Not sure why, but a few people said sticking in a physical SIM should fix it.

Does anyone know if it's possible to preorder a phone with the iPhone Upgrade Program if you have an AT&T Business account? Every time I try it tells me that I need to contact my company's telecom manager to complete the purchase but I'm an authorized user on the account and I should have authorization to make changes.

Anyone run into this or have any idea how to fix it?

I have an ATT Premier Account. This is the second time using the IUP. Never ran into any issues through. BUT I did have all sorts of issues when I purchased my X through regular old ATT. My order was failing to process due to my super duper legacy plan. But since then, I have found a better value and changed my plan. No issues since.

Not a chance. Apple is super strict. UPS won’t even have the release day phones through customs until Thursday Night/ early Friday Morning

Last time I did a pre-order in 2016:
Ordering thru AT&T the phones are locked to the network. Once paid, you can ask AT&T to unlock it.
Apple phones come factory unlocked.

Is this still true ?

AT&T is decently unreliable about unlocking phones. In all honesty, I just don't trust them to do things right. Also, the process wasn't exactly painless the last time I tried to unlock a phone through them.

I used to camp out for every single model... until the iPhone 7, the first time I decided to do delivery. It got lost... took a few days to sort it out, the *I believe it was UPS* that finally admitted to "losing" the package. So It was a very long process and I will never do delivery again. I'm sure it is not common as money people have had no problems with delivery. I now prefer to do in-store pickup. The best part of in-store pickup is being able to choose a time slot. I always choose 8am, and am usually out of the store by 8:05am with my new device in hand. You can choose any time slot that's available and it is quite easy. So if you want it first in the day, I would suggest an early time slot for in-store pick up.

I wish but unfortunately Apple has put restrictions against UPS/Fedex etc from delivering it early.

If people are thinking of doing in store pickup with a set time I would strongly suggest to do what you did and go in the morning. I've gone twice for an "appointment" to pick up my phone on launch day after 7pm and both times it took over two hours. I have my phone shipped to me now.

I remember last year it was 2 days before and my phone was still in Korea or Alaska lol I was like “there’s no way”

No, if you get in within the first few minutes, you'll probably get it on the 20th, and if you aren't quick enough, delivery dates start to slip quick and you could have to wait days or weeks (or months, in some past cases) after the 20th.

It hasn’t happened that quick in a few years. Last year like 4-5 hours later you could still order most models for the 20th

Depending on the model, you probably can get it the first day if you order in the first half hour or longer.

I'm guessing something like the Gold iPhone 11 Pro in 256GB might make it an hour or so.

Yeah, depends on the phone. I remember the glossy black version had people who had preordered at midnight waiting until the end of November for their phones.

Pickup is an option during the pre order process. You select a time slot

I think when you get the pre-approval you're able to change it during the pre-orders
