This will be my third year preordering. In the past I've always done it through Verizon. This year I am considering just doing it directly through Apple. My question is if I preorder through Apple will my iPhone be automatically activated to my number/account? I would like it to be ready out of the box and already activated just like how it always is when I order through Verizon. So when if I preorder through Apple will my phone still come activated out of the box with Verizon/my number? Should I just stick to ordering through Verizon? What is easier?

In the past when I ordered through Apple as a Verizon customer all I had to do was power off my old phone, and power on my new phone after it was off, and you're good to go.

When you order from Apple for delivery, it comes pre-activated but not fully activated. This way you still have a working phone while the phone is enroute. When you receive the phone then you just simply turn it on and follow instructions.

I read the entire OP but I want to confirm: I can preorder on Friday at 5am and select pickup at a local Apple store of my choosing?

Yes, and you'll need to choose the time that you prefer to be there for better chance for them to serve you. IMO, I find the time slots a bit irrelant to those who pre-orders because technically you paid for it, the phone is yours, and you can pick it up at any time. Even if you don't pick it up on that day, they do hold that phone for you for 14 days before they cancel your order and that gets sent back to the warehouse. As long as the local apple store near you shows that it's available for pick up you should be all good.

I am not on the IUP program but saw in the Apple store that I could get pre approved and that would apparently speed up the order process at go time. OK so I’m not sure how this works.
Will there be anything I need to be ready for when I click to order or will it just get confirmed and be done?

Never mind, I figured it all out by talking to them.

Question regarding iPhone upgrade program and tax. I read that you are charged tax up front on the full price of the phone.

But what if I buy my phone in Delaware? So I avoid tax entirely? Or will I Pay Tax during my monthly payments?

Living in Oregon, I know that people in Washington and California are supposed file forms to pay tax on the items they buy in Oregon and take home with things like hot tubs, cars, etc (Oregon has no sales tax, outside of a food tax in Ashland). Mostly you might get in trouble if you don't if you get audited, but in my experience they don't have people out looking for it.

As far as Apple is concerned - they only care about charging tax if you pick it up from a store in a state with tax, or have it shipped to a state with tax. That's all they legally have to worry about.

Weird question on the Apple iPhone Upgrade Program.

I want to use it to finance a new iPhone 11 Pro, that I will use for my work like. I don’t have a carrier account from Verizon, AT&T, etc.

However, I do have the account info from my father for his Verizon and his passcode.

When go through the process for the IUP , it asks me to provide the number and passcode of my account. I input his, and it comes up that he owes payments on that line for his phone, but will let me proceed to apply.

My question is, if I do this, can I proceed and sign up for IUP and when the phone is delivered, just put my SIM card in and use the phone and never activate it on his line? Will that impact or void his current device payment agreement with Verizon in any way?

In theory, I can’t see how it wouldn’t work. Anyone have info on this? I’d greatly appreciate it!!

Question: I have gotten pre-qualified for two iPhones..mine, is on the IUP, my wife's just the iPhone payment plan. Tomorrow morning will it allow me to checkout in one transaction? Or will I need to do two separate transactions? Both are pre-qualified against my Apple Card.

Why strange?
I’m not thrilled with the timing of it. So much for sleeping! LOL
I was distracted when I typed this. I'm just not sure what's going to happen. On one hand, I think iPhone demand is way down. On the other hand, it's a much more accessible launch time.

I think everyone who gets on their phone at exactly 5AM PST should probably be fine, particularly if they're not looking for the green Max, but you know, change is weird.

a little off topic but my cases for the 11 Pro Max just delivered. anyone want to see them? or which thread i should post them in?

So, here's what I can't find. I have my phone. Call it Phone A. I have the apple store app on phone A. I want to use Phone A to upgrade Phone B (also on my family plan) as a gift for someone, but it seems I can't do that via the app. Is there a way to choose which phone number I want to upgrade on a different phone? Even at the point where It looks up my number and last 4 of serial number, I can't change the phone number associated with the pre-quality purchase.

Cannot answer where to share, mine are out for delivery today as well

looks exactly the same as the XS Max cases except for the square camera cut out.

I'm really interested to see what ordering will be like tomorrow morning. Really strange
I just hope the Apple stores on launch day are better with WiFi than they were last year. I was on a trip and got my XS at the Chicago store. The WiFi was so horrible (even though it didn’t look like there were that many people setting up new devices). I wish they’d let you restore from cellular If WiFi is bad/slow.

Are those the apple cases I am assuming? I got my items from Amazon, wanted a belt (leather) holster like I have for my Xs but needed a Max size for my 11 Pro Max I have preapproved. I like clear cases so I can see the beauty of the iPhone back and found one there. I got the Spigen Liquid Crystal Case, but was interested also in the clear case from Apple for $39 curious about both.

I'm a little nervous about my order going through because I had the issue others are having where Applecare gets dropped from the iPhone in IUP. We'll see what happens.

Thanks for sharing! Even though they're $$ compared to other cases I really like the Apple silicone ones.
