I'm not sure what you are doing here. Why are you multiplying by 8? The metric system is a system of 10's lol.

175 Mbps most certainly equals 0.175 Gbps...

175Mb/sec does. 175MB/sec wouldn't.

Huh?
I am genuinely wondering what you’re doing here...

Neither of you seem aware of the differences between Megabits (Mb) and Megabytes (MB).

1MB = 8Mb

Any word on the Face ID improvements? I have been reallllly hoping it’s noticeably better and can work laying flat on a table. The fact it’s not mentioned at all in any of the reviews I have seen makes me think if there is any improvement it wasn’t noticeable.

We were discussing internet speed...why in the world would you think we would be discussing "megabytes" and not "megabits"? I apologize for using all caps but didn't know that would cause confusion when talking about internet speeds lol.

Because ISPs typically advertise megabits but software usually reports transfer speeds in megabytes. So it's important to be clear in such discussions.

You originally stated: "So your home Internet is 1.6Gbps?!"

So clearly you knew we were discussing BITS and not BYTES...

Technically they report in Mebibytes (MiB) even though Windows uses "MB". ;)

OT: Can't wait to get my 11 Pro on Friday, battery life and screen are the main reason for me coming from an 8 Plus.

I still don't see a reason to upgrade from my iPhone 6 !!!
I replaced battery and it is as good as new. I don't play games or use camera that often.

Honestly, how can people get over a design so quickly? I mean, obviously it’s always nice to have a new design, but I’m much more interested in upgraded internals. I’d take that any day over a completely new design.
Agreed. It’s been a rectangle since 2007, it will be a rectangle far into the future. Internals are far more important than small cosmetic changes to the rectangular shell.

No, you said your home Internet was 200MB/sec, so I questioned that because 200MB is 1.6Gb/sec.

If we are arguing semantics here then "MBPS" is not "MBps" so I actually did not say my internet was 200 MB/sec ;)

Oh, so what does MBPS mean then? And what speed is your Internet?

"MBPS" is a colloquialism which means "Mbps"

My internet speed is 175 Mbps or 0.175 Gbps :)

In all seriousness, I obviously understand what you were saying and I should not have capitalized all the letters.

How about the loss of security updates with iOS 13? (cause I don't think the 6 is supported after 12) A used 8 with a new battery might be a low cost option to keep security.

Yeah, then the price is $500 and you lost your iPhone X which you could've given to your spouse or keep as a backup. I swear the stuff I read on this forum sometimes...

No need for a backup and no spouse, so why would throw $400+ dollars away?

The Verge briefly said angles are improved but characterized it as more iterative.

This is the first year I confidently feel I didn't need a new phone. Very happy with my XS Max, but with iUP, if I am going to pay I may as well have the latest - but I am not 'overly anticipating' it or anything.

Only $550? I got $720 for my unlocked 256GB X a week before the keynote. Might've dropped now, expectedly, as the new models have been released and older ones have either been discontinued or discounted.

Does it matter? Rumors and benchmarks are pointing towards 4GB lately, but it seems these numbers are always used as weenie-measuring between the warring iOS and Android fanboy factions.

My prices were based on 64gb.

I was looking at this - of course my personal interest is the Night Mode.
(Night mode examples start at 6:02 )

*Not too bad, lot of the pics to me look over-processed perhaps. Almost a dramatic HDR mode. I've seen a few other examples that had a lot of noise/grain on them. Depends on the subject. I'm GUESSING if you propped this new phone on a tripod mount, used a 3rd party app that offeres slow shutter...this can improve the photos

But Night mode doesn't work in Ultra Wide mode?
Video, no night mode there in Ultra Wide...but it STILL appears to look better than previous phones.

I rarely use my phone for night shots, but this obviously looks better than the last time I grabbed a few pics of the Philly Skyline, few hours after the Eagles Super Bowl parade (ok, I realize that was Feb 2018 and I was using an iPhone 8+) Those night shots in a fairly lit area were awful, video was worse. This appears to be an improvement.

I'll be passing on my X to my wife so I will be paying the full amount when I DO upgrade.
[doublepost=1568727881][/doublepost]
My battery lasts me all day and the photos I take look great (but I take important photos with a DSLR), so no, its not really a compelling upgrade for everyone.

Honestly I am very likely to want next years phone, so paying 1K+ for this years phone is not great when I know I'll have to do it again next year.

@Sir Ruben OMG, Sir, it's like I've found my long lost brother. I am in EXACT SAME BOAT as you. Love my X. Take real photos with an FX DSLR. Will be passing the X to my wife. Only difference is that I can upgrade the phone more or less yearly through work, so as much as I wasn't going to upgrade, until my wife told me she wanted a new phone last week, I am reluctantly getting the 11 Pro, and should be able to get the (hopefully redesigned) 12 next year, but I just can't get excited about this phone at all.

The only thing I am legitimately excited about, and happy to see from these reviews that it's actually good, is the Night Mode.

PS: I've had every iPhone in hand on Day 1, including the original, except I skipped 5S and 7. The 11/11Pro feel like a 7 to me.

PPS: How many people think Apple will put a 5G modem (which I agree, is probably useless for at least a few more years) into next year's phone, call it 11S or 11S 5G (god help me with their naming schemes lately), and say that that's enough to forego a redesign until the following year?

With the iPhone 11 being the third iteration of the X design, next year should hopefully be a complete redesign which makes it more than just an S.

...unless Apple go with the same design for a 4th year :|

Apple hasn't released a new Industrial Design in an "s" year iPhone, so you should plan on seeing it next year. The 3g and 3gs only had two years, but the 4/4s/5/5s, the 6/6s/7/8 and now X/Xs/11 Pro/???? each had 4 iterations on the same basic chassis. Expect a new ID in the 2021 release.

So it means the price is still $1000 because that iPhone X wasn’t free either. You’re salvaging some of your previous spent money to buy a new iPhone, that doesn’t mean that $400 dollar just dropped from the sky.

It's like buying a car, you have trade-in value on the phone. Or better way to look at it is I got to use my X for two years and now I $400 back from the phone to use on a new phone. Two phones and I didn't spend $2k, I spent $1,600.

Maybe 20 MBPS (60/3) is "fast" in London but that is snail pace for home internet here in the USA. My basic cable internet through the local ISP is consistently pulling 175-200 MBPS here in the USA. And I'm nowhere near a big city.
When I lived in Freemont in Seattle I usually got between 1 and 20 mbps at home with century link. It was crap!
Now in Ireland I get seriously blazing speed and it’s far cheaper. Both broadband and cellular.
