That’s why the reviews tell you the usage. Like panzarino who compared XS to 11/pro in a day’s worth of Disneyland.
I always wonder when these reviewers compare battery life to the older model, is it a new battery to new battery comparison? Since it's not fair if they compare a year old XS battery life to a brand new 11/pro.

I have tried, as a tech enthusiast and an early adopter I have tried, but I just can't bring myself to get the iPhone 11 Pro and move on from my iPhone X. Last year the XS did nothing to tempt me, and again this year I just find the iPhone 11 Pro to be, a bit boring. £1K+ worth of boring to be precise.

I frequently buy new tech and I am desperate to buy a new gadget, but I am confident that next years iPhone will be the one to get. Announce the Apple tags Apple and give me something to spend my money on!!

Yea I decided to buy a new screen protector, new cases, and a do clean wipe on my X in anticipation of iOS13 coming Thursday. I also got a pair of Airpods and some cases for those. This will hopefully give my iphone X a bit of new factor and help me to get over the fact that I won't be getting a new phone this year since the iPhone11 is underwhelming.

When they talk about battery life, is it phone on for 12 hours straight for phone on & off?
I often wondered about that myself. If I don't use my phone it can last all day, but if I make one 1-hour call about 40% power is used. And if I use Maps, I will definitely need it plugged into my truck power charger or it won't last the 4-hours I am traveling.

No, it is the iPhone 11 Pro on the right here.

Here are the original files:

The iPhone photo has a more orange sky while the Pixel is more bluish.

I think the images comparing night mode in your article are swapped from The Verge's article - the iPhone is on the right in your article. :)

You have these pics backwards, the pixel photo is on the left, the iPhone is on the right.

This makes a massive difference!

Is it just me or does the night pic on the right look better?

Well then, I am relieved, 'cause I was (at first) sorry that I liked the photo on the right... thinking it was a Galaxy, and thought it was more "alive" and sharper. As a pro-Apple iPhone supporter, your revelation makes me happy again!

My mistake. Thanks for flagging this, everyone! Fixed.

Nice! It's good to see the camera improvements. Deep Fusion will make it even better.

This article gives you the comparison you're looking for and explains why iPhone 11 Pro is the more natural night shot.

With the iPhone 11 being the third iteration of the X design, next year should hopefully be a complete redesign which makes it more than just an S.

...unless Apple go with the same design for a 4th year :|

Supposedly it's a new design. They've already confirmed new screen sizes.

I don't trust those reviews in regards to battery life. It depends on usage.
I agree.
They should have some standard set up for these "tests". For phones it should be 12 10-minute calls from Los Angeles to New York, traveling from a point a to point b using Maps, or Waze, or Google Maps (or all 3) and some standard app usages to test this battery life.
I can just have the phone on and not use it to get 18 hours.... but one phone call or two and I get nervous and look for my phone charger.

I have a question for you and everyone else. What do you think next years iPhone will have that makes it so compelling that it would be the one to wait for and not get this iPhone 11 pro?

I’ll tell you what, same updates to existing things. Screen, camera, speakers, battery etc. it will have 5g but as far as new breaking technology there won’t be much to expect.
Unlessss.... the new iPhone has that screencast-swipe-to another surface like the one Tony Stark (Iron Man) uses in Avengers:Civil War.... now THAT would be a game changer!

Apple will give you $400 for your X and you can sell them on the open market for about $550. So the price isn't really $1k.

No your losing more than a thousand. It’s much more if your giving away an iPhone X for $500.00 when you most likely bought that iPhone X for $1k

I prefer the orange glow too.

The most drastic difference is the sharpness though. Look at the full size images and compare the "X" supports running the length of the bridge and the towers of the bridge. MASSIVE difference. Its small details like that, that make for a good photo. The way color is handled is a matter of preference
Not to mention the distortion in the "blue" pix compared to the "orange" pix.
The "orange" pix having less bow distortion.

Only if you like more noise, less detail and orange night sky.
I was looking at it on my phone screen. Is there confirmation on which photo is which?

The image on the right clearly has more detail, the light from the building is less bloomed, and the orange is perhaps correct if the sun was setting.

Curious about your definition of "noise". since the "blue" photo definitely has more noise-check out the sky in the upper part of the photos. The "orange" photo has less noise and is regular in it's "noise" . The "blue" photo's noise is all over scatter-gun like- larger in spots, smaller in other spots. The "blue" photo's bow distortion is way more noticeable.... if you flick from one photo to the other, you'll see the differences (especially on the tall building on the left). And an orange night sky occurs with those mercury vapor street lights from the bridge.... all in all, a more realistic photo.

Wow those are GREAT photos! Did you just use the native iPhone camera app, or a store-boughten app?

Ok, just looked at the full images. I have no idea what you’re looking at, at all. Maybe you flipped the images?

The iPhone’s image is so much better, it isn’t even close.

Look at the detail captured on the bridge. The building light is handled far better on the iPhone. Not sure what you’re looking at, but the Pixel has more noise all over the sky. The water is nowhere near as sharp.

Color I feel like is preference. I’m not sure what is correct, but I prefer the warmer iPhone image for sure.

Thanks. Just checked the EXIF data. Those were JPGs (not even RAW DNGs) taken with the native app. I've tried some other camera apps over the years, and always come back to the default camera.app; the only other one I use sometimes is Lightroom's built-in camera app and that one only to capture RAW DNGs. That said, I did process these images in Lr afterwards.

I posted this to another thread, but John Gruber posted some XS vs 11 Pro shots, the original files! I made a little cropped side by side, the XS looks like mud and the 11 has a ton of detail:

Not even Apple it’s assuming anyone will be upgrading perfectly working phones every year - Apple has adjusted to a 3-4 year cycle so yes 2020 will be a new design so waiting will work for you

I, too have tried many, many other photo apps, but usually end up using the iPhone camera app because it is so easy and versatile to use. I have to try the Lightroom app-I didn't even know it shot DNG's! I have deleted all but 2 third party photo apps, Obscura, and DSLR Camera... and I am not sure why I keep Obscura....

On a related note, I did look at your website and the photos are GREAT! They show patience and artistry.

The copy at the bottom was changed after complaints surfaced on which photo was which. Sometime between comments. Now, it is correct, i.e. the photo an the RIGHT is the iPhone, and the one on the LEFT s the Pixel

Any word on the Face ID improvements? I have been reallllly hoping it’s noticeably better and can work laying flat on a table. The fact it’s not mentioned at all in any of the reviews I have seen makes me think if there is any improvement it wasn’t noticeable.
Saw one review saying the improvement is barely noticeable

Thank you, very kind!

Yeah, I end up downloading camera or photo editing and/or effects apps from time to time. End up using none of them, ever, full stop. Just looked in my photography folder, and this is after recently cleaning up quiet a bit; I've got Focos, Obscura, Slow Shutter in there for camera apps. Also Enlight, Pixomatic, Circular and something called LD for editing/effects apps. I can all but guarantee you that I've never used any of them. Honestly, I don't even remember what half of these do or why I have them.

The default camera app is quick, easily accessible from anywhere on the phone, and does the job well enough in most cases. Lightroom app is a backup that shoots DNGs, there are other apps as well. I do pay the Lr subscription, so all of my images are synced between and are accessible on desktop and mobile.

So the great breakthrough of nightmode is prolonged exposure? Optics...working as expected. I guess it now sums the images computationally so that you don't need to hold perfectly still. But if the child moves...night mode not going to work as well as flash. Great reviews.
