Just about everybody doesn’t have to mean you. It’s quite clear the vast majority are happy with large phones.
It’s quite clear that the majority are fine with it, but a significant minority is not. It’s too bad Apple has abandoned that significant minority.

You see this all the time with cars or any other electronics. For instance, base 3 series BMW 2.0T costs more and has less horsepower than Honda Accord 2.0T. This does not stop BMW people from buying and enjoying the car and also does not make automatically Accord 2.0T a better car. Buy what you like or need.

I think the days of small phones are never coming back. I kind of hoped for the largest possible screen in a phone 61-62mm wide, like the first 3 generations. I think it more likely now that the smallest we’ll ever see again is the 67mm wide of the 6(S)/7/8.

Now we have the choice between an iPhablet 11, an iPhablet Mini 11 Pro, and an iPhablet 11 Pro Max.
A year ago, I expressed my hope that by now we’d have an XR “mini”. Maybe next year.
Maybe it’ll be:
-iPhone 12 (smaller version of the XR/11 non-Pro)
-iPhone 12 Max (or Plus) (the follow-up to the current non-Pro iPhone 11)
-iPhone 12 Pro
-iphone 12 Pro Max

I like my SE, but would prefer to get a more up-to-date one.
I don’t know what to think about the rumors of an SE2 (an “8” with a better camera and current CPU)

Totally agree. I have been stuck at the 6(S) and hate its slower performance while hoping we would see a form factor generally in the 6(S)/7/8 category with upgraded internals, fingerprint sensor and no wireless charging (don't want the weight of a glass back). A phone that fits in my jeans rear pocket that does not protrude has been my standard for years, of course some smartass will say something like get larger jeans pockets.

I think the iPhone SE 2 (iP 7 or 8 chassis, touch id, no 3D Touch, only standard wide lens from the 11, A13) will be the value king
If it has what you just listed and costs $500, it’ll be fantastic. But I’m afraid it won’t have current camera/CPU to keep costs down.

why do people on this site care so much about smaller phones??? stop living in the past
Please explain how the passage of time changes the ideal size of a phone.

It's too big to be the iPhone for everybody. Why hasn't apple learned.

Part of me thinks that they make this big phone as the middle size on purpose so that if you want a smaller phone you have to shell out an extra $300.

Still TOO DAMN BIG! If it were the size of the Pro, or even better the 5/SE then I'd be all over it! As it is, it's just too. big to use with one hand and too big to be comfortable in my pocket. Sure the display is great but the whole point is it's MOBILE. I don't sit at home on my phone looking at pictures or watching videos... that's what I have a iPad, laptop or smart tv for!

Apple's obsession with speed has replaced their obsession with thinness. No mobile apps require the power of modern chips. If they instead focussed more on efficiency they could design an amazing small phone. Plus small phones with smaller screens use less battery anyway.

The focus on speed is at least something that benefits users, whereas the thinness wars were merely bragging rights in keynotes - nobody gives a damn in real world usage. And Apple also care about effiency. The battery life in all three models is improved over their year ago counterparts, one of which already had the best battery life in an iPhone to date.

I think the problem is that a lot of the people who want a small phone want at the same time a bigger one. I'm not saying that's you but I could imagine it's a large part of the "small phone" crowd. And these people will then in the end still by the larger phone just in case. I know I'm one of these people. And a few people really buy small phones. Apple unfortunately has decided that these few people (probably still many millions worldwide) are not worth the investment.
In a perfect world I would want a iPhone 11 size phone for most of my workdays and a very small phone for going out in the evenings, sport, shopping and all other activities where i don't want to carry a larger phone. The phones should be synced and I would be swapping the sim. And by that i would always have a backup phone in case one of the breaks.

The Amount of DRAM in the NON-Pro is still the BIG UN-known, & is ALSO the single-BIGGEST factor that will determine the NON-Pro's "ultimate" success OR failure.

Early Benchmark 4 reports suggest the NON-Pro got the rumored bump-up to 3.7-3.8 GB, but that needs to be confirmed on Friday !

That's a full 1 GB more than the X & XR !

That means High-Perf apps will "finally" be able to run effectively on the X & XR, which were Apple's two best-selling iPhones the past two years.

Apple's decision to go with an Ultra-Wide instead of a Telephoto, as the 2nd Back Camera, in the NON-Pro is the ONLY negative that I know of.

Unfortunately, it is a BIG one !

The flip side is, while Apple did upgrade the Telephoto Lens in the two NON-Pro models, they did NOT upgrade the Back Telephoto "image sensor" in the two Pro models ! ... they have the same 1.0um pixel size as what's in the 2016 7+ !

If the DRAM gets confirmed on Friday at 3.7-3.8 GB, then I'd give the NON-Pro iPhone 11 a solid B+ grade.

If the DRAM gets confirmed on Friday at 3.7-3.8 GB, Apple should NOT be selling the XR !

I've used a XR the past year, & it is a Dog, performance-wise !

Same as the X !

7+ on the other hand, runs like a Porsche GT4 !

The one thing all phone reviews share in common (iPhone, S10, Note 10 for example) is that they are great upgrades for people with older devices, but only slight upgrades from previous years.

So I don’t know why people complain they’re not massive upgrades from the previous year. Nobody makes devices that are a huge step up from previous years.
It is funny when people attack Apple for not having earth shattering year over year upgrades they do imply that someone else does but nobody does. Many have touched on it but it has become a mature industry. One is not expected to upgrade every year any longer.

it doesn't matter - it is still the UGLIEST iPhone ever....
Do you buy phones to look at or use?

Did they seriously write low cost ????

16 gig iPhone 6s Plus was $749 when released.

Examples of apps taking advantage of the A12 power?
A large number of games take advantage of the additional power and resources.

Do you buy phones to look at or use?

For $700 ( for basic configuration with 64 GB in 2019 ) should look well, work well and have a lot of functionalities ( and not only camera improvements ), so the answer is: for both....

? I'm confused. None of my previous phones had 4 antennas let alone 4x4 MIMO and I never had a problem with data speeds. What do you mean with these phones are useless? They work just fine. Are you doing some high end online work or gaming that needs this?

Just trying to surf the web while riding the NYC subways. Without 4x4 MIMO it takes forever to reacquire the signal once pulling into the station, and signal gets lost faster than it otherwise would while leaving each station.

I'm currently on the 7. I tried the Xs - battery life was too poor. I tried the Xr, and almost stuck with it, but was too close to these new devices so I returned it just to leave my options open.

Honestly I'm tempted to go with the 8 Plus. It'll be too big, but I still greatly prefer Touch ID over Face ID in most scenarios, it's just so much faster. It's also cheap, has great battery life, a high resolution screen, and a great camera. I'd prefer the 11 Pro, but that's just so much more money...

I guess the genius of Apple is that whichever one I pick, I'll be getting a similar software experience... so it really comes down to cost and those few extra features...
