Lol, I feel you. I’m wondering what would happen if people did a blind test with the phone what Pepsi did with Coca Cola in the past. Can’t imagine iPhone would come on top because you get less everything for the highest price.

While they are amazing at directing manufacture and calibrating the LCD screens, I just can’t see myself going back to those at this point after getting used to the really good quality samsung OLED screens on my iPhones and Pixels.

That said, Would have totally considered a 5S/SE sized phone with all of this tech though. Still have one I throw a SIM into every so often and love that form factor. I could deal with LCD in that size I guess ;) .
Pixel and good quality screen on the same sentence ? o_O

Apple's cunning is quite obvious: you want a smaller newer phone? pay the premium for the 11Pro. You wanna get even smaller huh? Then buy an Apple Watch!

What most consumers don't realize is you will slowly get used to the larger screen. It's part of the digital evolution and the way Apple's culture inherently works. Also, look at the revenue: may be too big for your pocket, but most young adults walk around with small bags/fanny packs to compensate for being on the go with multiple electronics.

The XR and the 11 are just too big and those bezels are disgusting. Im happy with my X. Looking forward to the next year iPhone 11 pro successor.
There is literally ONE millimeter difference on the bezels.

If you stop looking at “numbers” and start looking at the display, you’ll find out the XR/11 screen is better than most of the so-called high end android phones.

These reviews have me wondering if I should stick with my 8...
As battery life and camera quality are concerned, the difference is night and day.
For the rest, the iPhone 8 still is a great phone.

Just trying to surf the web while riding the NYC subways. Without 4x4 MIMO it takes forever to reacquire the signal once pulling into the station, and signal gets lost faster than it otherwise would while leaving each station.

Don't blame the phone when you should be blaming the bad coverage your provider finds acceptable.
Nobody should NEED 4x4 MIMO to be able to get decent coverage. Change provider!

Totally agree. I have been stuck at the 6(S) and hate its slower performance while hoping we would see a form factor generally in the 6(S)/7/8 category with upgraded internals, fingerprint sensor and no wireless charging (don't want the weight of a glass back). A phone that fits in my jeans rear pocket that does not protrude has been my standard for years, of course some smartass will say something like get larger jeans pockets.

Isn’t it uncomfortable sitting down on benches or chairs with a phone in your back pocket? I feel like that would drive me nuts.

If Night Mode is just sofware,
which Apple banns from iP XS (Max),
I'm amazed if there would not be s***storm.

People have bought $1.5k flagship products from less than year ago to just few weeks ago.
And then Apple puts new software to a phone that costs half of the recent flagship.
We all know A12 could handle it.
Night Mode could be software AND hardware.

I think the problem is that a lot of the people who want a small phone want at the same time a bigger one. I'm not saying that's you but I could imagine it's a large part of the "small phone" crowd. And these people will then in the end still by the larger phone just in case. I know I'm one of these people. And a few people really buy small phones. Apple unfortunately has decided that these few people (probably still many millions worldwide) are not worth the investment.
In a perfect world I would want a iPhone 11 size phone for most of my workdays and a very small phone for going out in the evenings, sport, shopping and all other activities where i don't want to carry a larger phone. The phones should be synced and I would be swapping the sim. And by that i would always have a backup phone in case one of the breaks.

Sadly you may be right, but since Apple does not currently offer a "small phone" option, we don't know the real demand for such an alternative.

There have been rumors about an SE2, even an iPhone 8 form factor with new internals, but alas, they remain rumors.

I have no data to support this theory, but I think Apple might be concerned that a "small phone", which consumers would expect to cost quite a bit less, would cut into their premium sales.

"but Apple hasn't done anything innovative with the base model iPhone this year"

Well it's hard to appear innovative when the reviewers are apparently incapable of understanding anything new!
UWB and AR support are the primary innovations this year. But both of those represent NEW ways of using the phone...

And the A13 CPU represents a true milestone -- the big core in the A13 is now equal in performance to the best core Apple offers in its Intel lineup, the i9-9900K in the iMac Pro...
You'd think that would be a fairly noteworthy point, no? Apple wasn't selling CPUs 10 years ago and now they have the fastest in the world...
(Of course Intel put more large cores on a die; but that's trivial; anyone can scale up lots of cores --- look at those ARM server companies with 32 48, 64 cores on a die. The hard part is getting a single core that's fast.)

Both Xr and non-pro 11 uses same screen technology as 8 and hence have no issues with PWM or burn ins.

at low DPI that my eyesight easily resolves and makes text look blurrier to me

why Apple choose to go backwards in tech to save a few extra dollars in their pocket...

“Stop believing your eyes and believe Apple’s marketing department instead. You’ll be much happier”.

I remember when getting a new iPhone felt so exciting. I have an iPhone 8+, and I'm not really compelled to get a new one this year. Not to say I won't, but I think I'll probably wait until next year at this point. I guess things have plateaued to the point that the "next big thing" is now just the "next thing".

That’s less true if you’re into taking pictures. The camera improvements are pretty substantial compared to the XS, which was a substantial improvement over the iPhone 8+. Not to mention the OLED screen - when I switched from my iPhone 8+ to my iPhone X it felt like an exciting upgrade all around (except the standard camera which was not improved, although the zoom had a larger aperture).

I did that for while when I had an SE and a 6 Plus at the same time. I still have the SE, actually, but I’m now used to carrying larger phones and have adapted my accessories to accommodate them. In fact I have carried two and even 3 large phones around sometimes since I started using Android phones, too.

I’m going with the 11 Pro for it’s small size relative to my Note 10+ and I think that will be an awesome combo for me.

iFixit will dissect iP11 on friday, camera model numbers might reveal something...
Honestly I think Apple COULD do it on the last gen models, but have elected not to because they don’t like the way it performs without the full Focus Pixels of the new hardware. I’m sure that will upset some users (its MR after all) but Apple doesn’t like to enable features unless it meets a mark they’re comfortable.

Long story short, I believe the could enable it on the Xs but are not happy with the results due to the lack of hardware explicitly designed for it.

Apple, there’s nothing wrong with an iPhone that fits in your hand that allows full screen access w/out having to use a special command to access certain areas of the screen.
