I have a small, hairline scratch on my XsMax, but I can only see it if I'm looking for it under bright, direct sunlight.
Hold on, lemme check my old 6. Yup. Hairline scratch there.

Unless I'm looking for them like I'm in a CSI episode, I don't think about them at all.

This whole thing is so overblown.

Oh Lordy Lordy Lordy Lord.

Screen protector, case... or even a protective film for the back of the phone if you want to show off the color. They actually work quite well if you put it on right.

I keep my Xs Max in a hermetically sealed container and only take it out to specifically check for scratches now.
For my daily driver, I use an old Motorola Razr. Better safe than sorry, right?

I totally understand people cannot accept they spend some money buying a phone with
Scratch Gate, then saying it doesn't not exist would make them feel much better

See what people reported. Put in a bag without key or basically nothing, guess what? iPhone 11 full of scratches in an empty bag without anything like key.
Just put a screen protector on it and enjoy the phone.. There are many choices and when installed you hardly can tell one is on the screen.. If you’re worried about the screen that’s fine and a screen protector will solve that, the phone itself is designed well..

There is no "scratch gate". It's a glass phone with a stainless steel frame. Metal and glass, by nature, are susceptible to scratches from anything abrasive or anything repeatedly rubbing up against it. My Note 10 has a scratch along the frame from debris getting in the case. My S10+ has many scratches on the screen despite only using it for a week. My 11 Pro Max has a screen protector on it and i'm not using a case on it. No scratches on the back/sides yet. But, scratches will happen and I'm prepared for it. Which anyone should be prepared for when spending 1k on a slab of glass and metal. I'm sure your Benz has many micro scratches on it just from routine washing. Just because you can't see them doesn't mean they aren't there.

And as I said, if you can’t afford it don’t buy one. Lol why say it’s a “gate” if they use the same glass as everyone else. Just keep your iPhone SE.
cool your jets mate. plenty of more wholesome things to do outside than trying to pick a fight with someone over the internet. try boxing.

I really want to buy iPhone 11 Pro Max 512GB but the "Scratch Gate" really scare me. Super Easy get scratch on iPhone 11 Series screens reports all over the places. What can I do?
look at jerryrigeverything's video - he's showing the 11 pro to be super durable

You’re right, they don’t, then those same people that refuse to use a case/screen protector should take responsibility if their phone scratches when they could’ve used protection in the first place. But yet, they come on sites like this to throw tantrums blaming Apple for their own doing. See how that works?

The ‘scratch-gate’ scratches for most people is caused by simply putting their iPhone in their pocket. It shouldn’t be that susceptible to scratching that easily. Not because people are being irresponsible with their products, smh

Not everyone needs to put a case and screen protector on just to protect their phones from their pockets. That’s dumb. Lol

You aren’t careless or irresponsible if you don’t use a case or screen protector. Abusing your iPhone, or not looking after it at all, is careless.

You can care and look after your iPhone without using any protection. Having to «rely» on a case or screen protector is just for people who are careless & are klutzy; they want to use a case / screen protector to protect their phones so they don’t have to. They don’t have to look after their iPhone as much.

Regardless, the ‘scratch gate’ drama is mostly about people scratching their phones in their pockets while even ‘babying’ it. That quality is awful if that’s true. People are missing the point here, and are just pointing out the dumb obvious thing that ‘glass is glass, glass will scratch’ bs lol, ya no ****ing **** Sherlock. If it’s scratching in your pocket tho, that’s the problem. Especially when it can get scratched that badly as the photos suggests.

I personally haven’t experience any, I don’t see why people can get so offended by other people having their phone scratched. With enough controversy, maybe Apple can do something to improve the glass from scratching. That’s how Apple listens mostly.

Use a case and get Apple care. Problem solved. Sounds like you are trying to find a reason not to get the pro max. If you can’t afford it don’t try to make it out like you don’t want it and try to talk others out of it.

A non-issue for me. I always slap on a screen protector and case as soon as I get a new phone.

If you use a screen protector on all your device, then a simple solution for you is to apply the screen protector right after you unbox the phone and remove the film that came with it. Simple.

Pretty common to have dirt in your pockets even if you’re a clean person. Dirt is basically silica which if you check your Mohs scale is harder than glass, hence the softer of the two which is the glass will scratch..

Scratchgate my arse. JerryRigEverything on youtube has scratched tested iPhones for a long time now. The iPhone 7, 8 X, XS, 11 and 11 Pro have all scratched at a level 6 Mohs pick with deeper grooves at a 7. Nothing to see here.

There is a 23 page thread on the Apple Communities with some pretty horrible pictures. This is just overblown?

Isn't this just like saying:

I keep brushing past my car and now there are scratches where my clothes/zips etc keep touching it.

I keep opening the door with the hand I have rings on and they are gradually adding scratches to the handle.

I keep my bare iPhone with no screen protector or case in my pocket and over time my coins/keys are causing scratches on the glass.

If I were the kind of person that didn't look after my things properly, and damaged them in the process, I too would probably look to blame that on someone/something else in the hope of having something done such as obtaining a replacement.

I have never scratched any of my personal iPhones because I look after them. In contrast to that I have scratched my iPhone SE work phone screen because I don't look after it and just throw it in my work bag.

iPhones screens have been known to scratch much easier than other phones for years now. This is nothing new and certainly not a “gate”. I’m sure it’s just the oleophobic coating Apple uses rather than the screen itself but it tends to show scratches more easily than rival devices and it’s something Apple should’ve fixed years ago. Still, a screen protector fixes it and costs next to nothing.
