Only if they made something you could put over the screen to protect it from scratches. They could call it a screen protector.

Oh well till something like that is invented I guess we'll have to deal with scratches.

I think it’s great how OP starts by saying they really want to buy 11 Pro but then won’t because it can scratch. Let’s at least be honest here, you were never interested in buying the iPhone in the first place.

Valid observation. It’s interesting, because sometimes I think you have people who really want this iPhone, but either they can’t afford it or they’re experiencing ‘buyers remorse’, where they need to talk it down on sites like this, therefore, they try to reaffirm why they need to return the phone because it “scratches”. Strange, but that’s my theory.

It’s not going to magically scratch. Something has to cause it. I put my Pro Max in a case. I literally just put on a screen protector last weekend. Screen is perfect and I just wanted to have added security.

Having to «rely» on a case or screen protector is just for people who are careless & are klutzy; they want to use a case / screen protector to protect their phones so they don’t have to. They don’t have to look after their iPhone as much.

Unmmmmmmm no. People use these because they forked over at least $900 for an iPhone and want to make sure it stays in pristine condition. Just because someone is or is not clumsy doesn’t mean they’re careless. Accidents happen. Most can’t prevent it. A case and screen protector helps from the device the being damaged. Your entire statement makes you look like an ignorant jerk. Please keep your insulting opinions to yourself.

There are people that don’t want to use any protection for their phone. You can state your opinion. That is completely fine. I have nothing against that. Just don’t shame those that like protecting their device. It’s not right. I NEVER post something like this but this was worth saying something straight to the point.

I really want to buy iPhone 11 Pro Max 512GB but the "Scratch Gate" really scare me. Super Easy get scratch on iPhone 11 Series screens reports all over the places. What can I do?

My wife’s iPhone 11 doesn’t have a case or screen protector. And it has several scratches already, I looked at it last night in surprise. I’m sure the same glass is used in the Pro models too. But, I am using a screen protector so I don’t have any scratches my self.

The back glass of both phones, and the bezels stainless or aluminum appear to be extremely resilient against scratches. but I don’t think our screens are very scratch resistant.

This is a softer glass capable of withstanding hard drops without breaking.

I have a iPhone 7, and a iPhone 8 and each of those phones are older but show very minor micro scratching on the display Glass.

I dunno why the iPhone 11 is scratching so easily. I am a little concerned about what it may look like 6 months down the road at this rate..

I will try to get some pictures up tonight.

I also have this, my 11 months old XS in 10/10, not a single scratch

11 Pro scratched in few days, I have nothing in my pockets

Stupid title from RedmonDie....

Especially since that handful includes Brownlee and iJustine as they both reported it.

Might I suggest Obsession Gate..obsessing over every micro scratch.

I mean seriously all glass and all metal scratches under the right conditions. Use a screen protector and a case out of the box or just enjoy your phone as is. Worrying about every little scratch will drive you bonkers.

Do you have links to Brownlee's and iJustine's reports? Having a hard time find them
Justine and Marques did a video together and she mentioned scracthes for all of five seconds. Saying it was a "report" makes it seem like some big thing.

I'm of the opinion (though I don't have 11/Pro) that scratching phones has gotten way easier since X onwards.

Seems to be the case with X, and my XR (which now has a tempered glass because I'm afraid of screen shattering, and don't want to be without a jailbroken phone, the 2nd year of ownership can get hairy in my experience)

it isn’t obsession gate. My wife’s screen looks like it is sandpapered

Apple should officially reply this thread and explains when they would fix this Gate. This is the worst Gate ever!

Are you sure?

Are you sure the iPhone XS scratching wasn't the worst "gate" ever?

Or maybe the Samsung Note 10+

Or the Samsung Note 9?

The Samsung Galaxy S8+?

Google Pixel 3?

I'll stop there.

For me it is cheap, but I don't want to buy something that is not designed well and I need to buy another stuff to put on it to protect it.
It’s designed very well. Any quality phone is going to be subject to scratching. Have you never owned a phone? Plus there are very inexpensive but high quality screen savers you will not recognize if it is that big of an issue.

Your concerns are greatly overblown.

6 pages of discussion / complaints for iPhone XS.

38 pages (so far, so soon) for iPhone 11 / 11 Pro:

There is something going on with the quality of the coating/glass of these new iPhones.

I got my iPhone 11 Pro on Friday. It's still in the box. For the first time ever with iPhone, I'm waiting for a screen protector before unboxing.

This is written on my year and a half old iPhone X. It's been naked all the time, and there's not a single scratch on the screen. I'm careful with my phones.

The increasing reports of poor scratch resistance of the new iPhones convinced me to get a screen protector – and I hate screen protectors. They change how the phone feels.

Judging by the reports in the media, and the ever-growing discussion at Apple forum, I'd say we have a legitimate Scratch Gate this year.
