I really want to buy iPhone 11 Pro Max 512GB but the "Scratch Gate" really scare me. Super Easy get scratch on iPhone 11 Series screens reports all over the places. What can I do?
Stop with the hyperbole. If you’re that scared, you don’t need to have a phone. Every damn phone on the planet will get scratched if not taken care of.

lol not everyone wants to use a case or screen protector smh
Well don’t use one then. But don’t come complaining on sites like this when it gets scratched. You and anyone else who doesn’t want to use a case or screen protector.

You’re right, they don’t, then those same people that refuse to use a case/screen protector should take responsibility if their phone scratches when they could’ve used protection in the first place. But yet, they come on sites like this to throw tantrums blaming Apple for their own doing. See how that works?

I literally said this very thing the other day on another thread and I got a load of abuse, ‘oh, you don’t expect scratches in the first few weeks’. People need to stop being so naive. You don’t use screen protectors and you abuse your £1000+ phone, you’ll get scratches. It’s not rocket science.

1) most people are scratching the oleophobic coating, not the glass itself. This has been this way for a long, long time.

2) who cares? You use things, they get worn. What is the purpose of trying so hard to keep it like new? It's not like it makes much difference in the end (resale), so why give yourself that stress?

Personally I’ve noticed the 11 Pro Max to be much more durable than the iPhone X. I had front display hairline scratches within days of the X, but my 11 Pro is still going strong!

iPhones screens have been known to scratch much easier than other phones for years now. This is nothing new and certainly not a “gate”. I’m sure it’s just the oleophobic coating Apple uses rather than the screen itself but it tends to show scratches more easily than rival devices and it’s something Apple should’ve fixed years ago. Still, a screen protector fixes it and costs next to nothing.
Seems Note 10 owners are complaining about scratches too so it’s not isolated to the iPhone.

I've never had a screen protector and any micro scratches I've seen on an iPhone are when I've been specifically looking for them, like I said, under direct sunlight. Or the sunlight hits it just right while the screen is off and I notice it. Then, since I can't see them when I'm just normally using my phone, I forget about them and move on with my life.

I also understand that, if I don't use a screen protector, this is most likely going to happen over time.

It's the trade off.

Sorry, that was the first on a list in a google search. Just proving that the iPhone isn’t the only phone that gets microscratches.... Search ANY type of phone and you’ll see.

Even you google then the first result has only 2 pages and no photo? That proves iPhone 11 Series Scratch Gate is a big deal!

Having read through all posts, I don't understand the purpose of this thread. You're fabricating a "-gate" (the most irritatingly uninformed nuisance around here) and then arguing with people who are trying to educate you on why it's happening and the fact that it's not just iPhones but all glass that scratches.

Apple advertises the strongest glass in a smartphone ever because they're increasing the shatter resistance from one generation to the next. As I'm sure you've heard/read, the more shatter resistant glass becomes the lower it's rating on scratch resistance.

Would you rather have a shattered screen or some micro-scratches that can only be seen in certain lighting? If it's such a big deal move along and get something else.

What is this obsession with creating a “gate” every year? It’s like people want something to be wrong with their iPhone, so what, they can get it for free or some other compensation? I don’t get it.

Glass scratches and inevitably the glass on the iPhones will scratch. They appear very unexpectedly and when you think you have been the most careful. This is one of the reasons the screen protector market does so well.

If one doesn’t want to use a screen protector, then one assumes the risks of scratches to the screen. It’s Gorilla glass, not diamonds. Imagine the price if it were.

If the current iPhone does not live up to anyone’s personal expectations, then they should take it back for an exchange/return and use whatever other device that does meet their needs. This is simple, but I guess making things more complicated is less boring for some.

I've never used a screen protector and never gotten screen scratches; currently waiting on delivery of an 11 pro to upgrade from my 7 (which, no scratches). I'm trying out the Upgrade Program this time and would still prefer not to deal with a screen protector - does anybody know how fickle Apple is about phones being traded back in with microscratches, if the 11s do in fact scratch more easily than previous phones?

Not really. You can google "samsung phone scratches" or "google pixel scratches" and find all kinds of references to people with scratched up phones. This doesn't mean these are poorly designed products. It just means people should be more careful with a mobile device that they invest hundreds of dollars on.

For micro-scratches, they’re not fickle at all for the upgrade program. At least in my experience.
