So how does the iPhone Upgrade Program work now since Apple Card now exists? Do we still trade in the phone and continue to finance through Citizens One or do they switch us to Apple Card if we have a card?

At what point does this become false advertising? I feel like they are skirting the line.

Hoping that media outlets don’t let this slide. Charging a premium for your phones is fine. Everyone expects iPhones to be expensive and in general you do get a quality product out of it. But don’t lie!
if they were advertising it as "ATT and VZ start at 799 and TM and SIM free start at 829" - then at least they would be open about it, but not mentioning that will get people p*** off.
And I agree that Apple needs to be pulled in the mud for this by the news outlet, it's a dirty tactic ...

This doesn’t explain A) why the SIM free option is $829 B) why the 12 Pro is $999 regardless of carrier and C) why this has never been the case for any previous iphone launch.

I suspect it’s collision between Apple and AT&T/Verizon. Apple gets to advertise a lower price while AT&T and Verizon get to stock it to Tmobile.

The sim free is more expensive because historical you could avoid US carrier activation fees by just sim swapping. Guess which carriers are you only ones to still charge activation fees?

Is guess this is only on the regular 12 models because Apple sells far more regular models and their margins are quite a bit lower than on the Pro models. The same storage 128 GB Pro model is now only $120 more, encouraging more customers to just step up.

All just my blind speculation of course.

I just got done chatting with Apple Support and the answer they gave me regarding the extra $30 for T-Mobile/Sprint and Sim-Free for the no-pro version does not make any sense. What they told me was that AT&T and Verizon are offering a special limited time deal for $30 off. And after price will be $30 more regardless of carrier or SIM-free after the promotion ends. The agent did not know the period of time for the promotion. Bottom lime for me is that I am going to order the phones through T-Mobile.

This is cheating even for Apple standard. Must have mentioned the unlocked price in the event and not the carrier price.

The price I see on the website if I pay in full, Sim-free, for the iPhone 12 mini is $729 and iPhone 12 $829.

T-Mobile does not show the iPhone 12 yet.

cause ATT and VZ are giving you an inland $30 discount ... Apple doe not give that to you on the SIM-free version
I have T-Mobile. I usually buy the SIM free from Apple. And that is why the extra surcharge does not make sense. It sounds to me like Verizon made a financial marketing deal with Apple to be the headliner.

In my opinion, the SIM free model should not have a surcharge. It could be Apple’s way of recouping cost for the 5G modem. Who knows.

agreed, I have VZ but my last 3 iPhones were SIM-free and I just swapped the SIM out myself ...

The real issue I see is that Apple is hiding the real price by stating it starts at 699 - if they were stating it starts at 729 but you get an instant discount from ATT and VZ of $30 - now that would be crystal cleared open communication

Refreshed the page....still shows $829 for unlocked. In fact, the price says "Includes a verizon customer discount" or "Includes an AT&T customer discount." Which in that case means Apple advertising that it is priced at $799 isn't just fine print...it's an outright lie. The phone is $829, and Verizon and AT&T have discounts.

You are correct and I edited my post to "Nevermind..." I must've been looking at something else.

Apple is most definitely lying about the phone price.

Not even discounts . . . just a credit against the fee they'll charge you to activate.

Basically AT&T and Verizon agreed with Apple to make it appear that they're selling the phone for less than T-Mo/Sprint, when in fact the net price is exactly the same.

And it allows Apple to claim its new iPhone starts at $799, even though that's almost as bogus a hotels that charge a resort fee and airlines that charge all the extras that used to come free (boarding pass printing fee, seat selection fee, etc.)

If paper specs are important to you, hope you enjoy Samsung. Good luck with that.

1 thing is true

even if Samsung S20 hardware is better

iOS Operating System is better than Android, and with ARM MacBooks announced it directly means iOS will improve a lot in the next years to come.
