but that money pays people so they can buy an iPhone. It’s the cycle of life. Money makes the world go ‘round
Lol, umm, my phone bill for two people is almost enough to be a monthly car loan payment. Pretty sure between that and the $1000+ phone upgrades every few years more than covers payment for employees to make the devices and provide wireless service.

$60 activation fees are just a way to fleece the pockets of the executives and stockholders, no other way around it.

I've been Apple-exclusive on Macs for the past 25 years and Apple-exclusive since the first iPhone. Maybe you don't live in the U.S? There hasn't been a stock problem here. The XBOX and PS5 are completely sold out on Pre-orders on the first day and won't be available until well after launch day in late Nov-Dec. Demand for Apple's products has never been so high that Apple sold out of all preorders. At least with gaming machines there are professional gamers that use them for a living. NOBODY needs an iPhone so bad that they can't wait. SMH

I am in the US. It sounds like some sour grapes coming from you lol I find it funny that you think gaming consoles are somehow more important than a pocket computer. Also, the iPhone X literally sold out the first day and had around a month backorder.

I worked for Sprint for 7 years and have asked the higher-ups and management why we charge activation fee when customers have to activate the phone through Sprint anyway? A stupid response saying, "Activation fee covers paperwork, blah blah blah". Like you said it's just to pad pockets.

Sour grapes? I see, you just want to argue and bicker. I'm not interested in either an iPhone 12 or a gaming console. I'm just fine. I'm not ignoring reality and acting like a child crying over an iPhone preorder and complaining about Apple's server crashing when it's obvious more people are preordering online this time around due to stores being closed because of COVID.

For not being interested in either, you seem to be following this thread heavily. Also seem to enjoy comparing iPhone demand to gaming consoles and how they are more important because people use them for a living? Or something like that.... I see you also ignored the whole iPhone X being sold out for weeks portion which goes directly against your post of “Apple has never sold out of anything” and “Wait a week.”

If it is pacific blue, it appears that colour is a week later over the other colours on a world wide basis so I hope that makes you feel better.
It was for the whole ordering process. I couldn’t even order a cable, the site just froze. Same on my phone etc. I have super fast internet and all other pages were fine, just the apple site. It was annoying because as the site hung, I went to macrumours to read all the “just ordered”!!!😢. Anyhoo, I’m kinda over my snit. Hate waiting 2 weeks longer even tho I was “on it” out the gate.
BTW, I ordered the graphite one.

Just curious, is anyone else getting an “Orders are not available at this time” when trying to view your orders on the Apple Store app?

yes. And just because they apply the fleecing equally to all doesn’t make it feel better I suppose. But if you want it, you pay it. Gripes don’t really help much. It happens everywhere on everything.

Indeed griping doesn’t help. Kind of like buying cars... hate paying the registration fees each and every year, but if you want one you got to play the game.

But in all seriousness I am not that upset over the activation fees, its nothing new. I am more excited to upgrade from my iPhone X. I love this phone but going from an aging battery that only got 12 hours max video playback to the 17 on the iPhone 12 Pro is enough to get me excited. No more charging between conference calls for work.

Yes! Now people can....sit at home during pandemic wave 2/3 lockdowns and stare at their..."mobile" phones. o.0

I had browser and phone app store open. Still "just bit and we are ready" after 1 minute over. I killed the app and reopened and got into ordering. Classic shipment address isn't valid.

Maybe 4-5 minutes past I got order in for blue 12 pro and cover. Shipment on release day! (in Finland! what a luxury)

My current phone is 6S - actually still working well, I've waited for upgrade all these years. Now was the time. Back in the days I upgraded 3GS to 4S and was really dissapointed how little there was improvement. I thought if the changes are already so small (back in 4S days) I will surely wait for upgrades in future. Next upgrade from 12 Pro to maybe iPhone 20? :D

After getting continuous error messages saying that my checkout failed earlier, I just spotted that I managed to put through two orders.

Currently, it's saying that I cannot amend my order to cancel one of them. Hopefully I will be able to cancel before it ships though! 💸

After lunchtime issues, had to go out for a while. Now back and managed to order a Graphite 128 GB 12 Pro. UK delivery 2 Nov - 9 Nov.

I dislike Gold (for me!). Silver is truly boring. Pacific is going to be done to death - every advert, every editorial will show that. Plus, a blue phone could look wrong with some case colours. Graphite, I hope, will more or less disappear.

There is not the slightest chance I'll need the full 128 GB.

This is why I'm thankful my corporate discount waives the activation fees. "Render unto Caesar" and all that, but doc fees are total BS in this day and age of electronic forms that are autogenerated with the users direct input. Only during the occasional audit or review do human eyes ever glance any of these "forms" nowadays.

Agreed. Plus AT&T’s iPhone 12 deal is crazy. If you finance it through their 30 month 0% installment plan (or add the Next option to upgrade earlier for an extra $5 a month which I’m not doing) and if you trade in your X you get an $800 bill credit that gets applied monthly.

I went with the 12 Pro which comes to around $34 dollars a month but that bill credit brings the actual monthly payment down to less than $7 a month. Do the math on that one. They are practically giving them away if you agree to go with, or stick with, AT&T and trade in your old device.

Since I’m already an AT&T customer with an eligible unlimited plan and they do have 5G in my area and in the areas I most frequently travel to in my state why not? If I’ve got to pay an extra $30 what do I care? My out of pocket costs for the phone are a little north of $210 for an iPhone 12 Max. They are desperate to hang on to customers as the 5G battle between carriers heat up. I’ll take advantage of this offer, $30 activation fee or not. It’s too good to pass up if you already use AT&T, already have one of the eligible plans and were going to trade your phone in anyway.

I was looking at potentially switching to T-Mobile to save some extra money per month had I remained on the X but after deciding I wanted to upgrade and seeing this deal that went out the window in a hurry.

I ordered my 12 this morning and did the 30 month deal with ATT and had no idea they were doing this. This makes the upgrade even sweeter.
