Easiest ever order of an iPhone in the UK (apart from the time I was passing the Apple Store on iPhone 4 launch day, saw there was no queue and dropped in. Having seen the retina screen I bought one on the spot).

Then I went to Amazon to look at cases and saw they had an error so 12 pros were all priced as the 128GB model regardless of capacity - they sold out of 512 as I was watching - so now I have two pacific blue 256 iPhone pros turning up next week - one significantly cheaper than the other. I'm expecting the 'oops' email cancelling the order from Amazon any time now... if I actually get both I'll have to return one to Apple.

Your 2nd bullet isn’t accurate. Ordered phone for my son through installment plan from my phone.

My second bullet is accurate. I edited my comment for clarity, but it's broken for me. When I choose this option, it presents my with an auto-fill containing my number and I can't edit it.

If I choose the second option, and put in the other account's phone number and the last 4 of my SSN, it fails.

EDIT: At any rate, I still can't order a phone and have it delivered to the person who is 400 miles away. I have to ship it to them myself.

I'm thinking there should be a 5 minute order delivery date guarantee lock-in of sorts once you put the phone in your cart. Then if the actual check out process takes a few minutes so be it.

I put a blue 256 in the cart with a delivery date of 10/23. By the time I got through the payment it then came back with order details showing delivery of 11/3-11/6. That is just not right. Why even give an initial date at all if it will not be honored?

I suggest to Apple that once a customer starts an order the item is tagged from inventory once placed in the cart. If actual checkout doesn't happen within a certain timeframe then you lose your "place in line" and have to start over.

Frustrating.

America first it seems
I'm not saying it "should be" that way but I don't know why anyone wouldn't expect the U.S to be first since Apple is a U.S company. I don't expect UK-based companies to pump out products in the U.S at the same time as customers get it in the UK. That would be great but I wouldn't expect it.

That type of perfect world makes sense if this was just a standard semi-popular product from an semi-popular company. People are clamoring for new iPhones, especially since some Apple stores are still closed so nearly everyone is ordering online so guaranteeing times once you place your product in the cart is very unrealistic.

is AT&T so desperate for money that the have to charge me an activation fee of $30 when I buy a new phone ?? Really AT$T??? really?
Not that it helps but I recently had to go with AT&T for rural copper line internet. There was no mention whatsoever of an installation fee. Even triple checked my screenshots of the web as I set up the order. After the technician was here and set up the modem/router I got a higher than expected bill. Yes, a $99 fee for installation.

I went round and round with customer service about this charge when it was supposed to be free. Basically told that was too bad and additionally if I cancelled there would be an early termination fee. And again, nowhere in my paperwork is there any wording that mentions a minimum contract period or termination fee.

As soon as I can get rural internet over cellular I am dumping AT&T and never, ever buying services from them again. I had cell with them years ago and left over poor customer service and now I remember why. I agree, a $30 activation fee is pure greed. Especially if you do it yourself over the web.

My 12 Pro Pacific Blue did slip to October 30-Nov 3 even after only about 5 minutes in. I am wondering if Apple underestimated the demand for the blue variant of the Pro models.

Apple has to do that on purpose.

Every time they come out with a new color, that will be the one which will sell out first and get backordered. Every time!

So I highly doubt Apple can be so stupid to do this same thing every year, hence why I think they do it on purpose.

What is up with this trillion dollar company? I sat on their website trying to order and getting long pauses and bad gateways. I then grabbed my phone and placed my order for my 256GB blue Pro in less than 3 minutes.

business is brisk - so many orders flooding in at once - within seconds.

just imagine the calamity if everyone on planet earth flushed their toilet at the exact same second. It’s like that. :)

I have this with Verizon each time I upgrade, and usually I can call and get their $60(!?) activation fee overturned, just on the basis I have been with them over 10 years.

Activation fees are absolutely stupid. It doesn’t cost that much to add the phone ID to the server/DB and activate the line with the new computer tech we have now a days.

Unlike preorders for the PS5 and the XBOX Series X which people want on launch day so they can play multi-player and the fact that there is a very short supply on these products I often wonder why people need an iPhone sooooo badly on the day of preorder. It's not like Apple will run out. I've never known Apple to completely run out of iPhones. At worst they've run out of a color and restocked in less than a week. All this clamoring over an iPhone is just silly.

Supply is holding on really well. I think Covid-19 has had a massive effect on people's ability to spend thousands of dollars on phones that never leave the house.

Those of you who tried the web site, my condolences. The Apple Store app has generally been the most reliable way for at least the past 5 years.

slipping into November

but that money pays people so they can buy an iPhone. It’s the cycle of life. Money makes the world go ‘round

Are you new to this? There have been several years where people who didn’t preorder were waiting until almost December to get their phones. Apple literally “runs out” of the initial batch and they have to make more. That takes time. Where are you getting less than a week from? Your post does not reflect reality whatsoever. Comparing and xbox to an iPhone is a joke, Apple has demand like no one else.

I've been Apple-exclusive on Macs for the past 25 years and Apple-exclusive since the first iPhone. Maybe you don't live in the U.S? There hasn't been a stock problem here. The XBOX and PS5 are completely sold out on Pre-orders on the first day and won't be available until well after launch day in late Nov-Dec. Demand for Apple's products has never been so high that Apple sold out of all preorders. At least with gaming machines there are professional gamers that use them for a living. NOBODY needs an iPhone so bad that they can't wait. SMH

Pacific Blue does seem to be the preferred color this year. I ordered black but date slipped somehow after I completed order. It said Oct 23 as I was placing it.

Same here. Very disappointing.
