Everything went smooth until I tried to checkout with Apple Pay which failed several times, and eventually they just emptied my bag and I had to start over. Finally went through. Then I got 2 order confirmations. But looking at my account it seems they may have already trimmed that down to one.

Did you check the inStore Pickup. I notice the slip on delivery of that exact model, but inStore Pickup was still available as an option with the 10/23 release date.
No, I am getting it delivered. I wasn’t going to be available to pick it up next weekend anyways, so the weekend after is fine with me... though I’ll be itching with excitement for the whole next two weeks.
I got mine from VZW and it shows up in my orders on their app. Arrival date 10/23. It let me order about 1 min early from the Apple web site, which I was into both the VZW app on my iPad and the web site on my desk at work.
It seems as though the VZW app was one of the ways that worked out. I've been with them for years, I know they're borderline thieves, but I suppose there's an element of inertia there. Either way, my experience was pretty smooth considering.
I expected a scheisse show when I was driving to work. Got here early and set up to pre order (or as my office mates call it "geek order"). I was leaning towards the Apple web site as my office doesn't have Wifi and this isn't the best area for wireless coverage, but ended up using the Verizon app on my iPad.
So all in all, not a bad launch day experience. I never waited in front of a store for a phone. Those days were kinda over by the time I cam to the iPhone world. My first launch day phone was the X, this is my second.
After talking on the phone with Verizon this morning I feel better about what I might do instead of taking the $440 in credits. I think I might just pay off another phone on my account. The iPhone 11 (about $300 left). Seems I can get way more than $440 if I sell myself (which looks like it's going for around $500-600 on Swappa).
Then we have ZERO payments the plan. The new iPhone 12 will bring back about $40/mo in device payments. We keep the XS and the new iPhone 12 Pro on the plan - no upgrade to 5G (we can't get it anyways) and then our bill goes from about $70 in device payments to just $40. I prefer the XS to my 11. A lot (size is a huge factor) so if the wife wants to upgrade now - She gets the new phone. If not I'll take the new phone and the XS lives on to fight another day! 😀
Very nice! My thinking was the same, had both graphite and blue saved in my favorites. Opted for graphite as I just like gray / black phones and will get a different color case if I want. I have the gray AW6 and have the deep navy solo loop band it looks really nice, so may do the same thing with my phone.
is AT&T so desperate for money that the have to charge me an activation fee of $30 when I buy a new phone ?? Really AT$T??? really?

It's a month later than normal. They have plenty of stock. And only 2 out of 4 models were up for preorder. They got slammed this morning, but have plenty of stock (except Blue which was clearly the most popular).
Yup. Got my confirmation email a few minutes after order placed. Next step for me is to wait till it says preparing to ship.
That happened to my husband who was trying to order a certain configuration of iPad Air. Bummer.
OK, whatever you need to think to stay edgy and pissed off. What are you, 12? The pre approval for finance was so that you didn't have to wait for approval, and a delayed shipping date, when the pre orders went live. It didn't save a phone for you. So if you did the pre approval, it was just as instant as Apple Pay.
Hey guys I screwed up. I chose the wrong plan from att when I checked out with Apple. Should I cancel and rebuy? If I cancel, will att give me my eligibility back ASAP so I can buy another phone right away? Thanks.
Make it work? So that orders can be placed, instead of a cacophony of errors and issues? You know they're looking at a board showing them the success and fail rates of the order process. They just accept the high error rate and deal with it later, instead of trying to make the actual experience better.

suggesting nobody could order and that isn’t accurate. Just because your order didn’t go through doesn’t mean nobody could order. You got your order in but won’t arrive when you want...
Millions of people probably accessing their website at the same time and your expectation is there shouldn’t be any issues. Sorry, that’s just unrealistic.
Look at PS5 and Xbox preorders...
I will be back on here on the 6th with you all to order one for my GF, lol. I prefer the non-max form factor for myself but the GF likes the bigger phone for social media and the like.Just think of those of us waiting for the Pro Max.

I stupidly didn't get preapproved with Barclays. There was a hold while they processed the application. But Barclays got it sorted and emailed me all is OK. But Apple is still saying my order is on hold...
Anyone else experience this? Barclays emailed an hour ago to say it's accepted. I have selected store pickup on launch day...will Apple hold this slot for me?
