What happened to all the complaints about thinness and battery life?

They’ll probably continue even if the iPhone is 15mm thick. I personally think that the iPhone 11 Pro battery is already great and adding even more thickness and weight will change the ergonomics and feel of the iPhone too much.

I hope by "iPad Pro-Style Design" that means USB-C. Because that's one of the best parts of iPad Pro.

so it’s an iPhone X with flat sides and a stovetop camera setup with a centered Apple logo... looks good, but with the X running as good as it does still... not seeing much reason to upgrade

Maybe. Or the next phone after this could eliminate the notch and add in-screen touch. Who knows. But the S-cadence seems to be over.
...and that would be the phone I would want? Sounds good.

There has been no evidence that Apple won’t retain its design for years after release. If Apple updates the design in year 2, that would only make my statement more justifiable.

I don’t think this is an aesthetic improvement design-wise. I’m sad to see apple moving way form curves across their line. Those curves made apple products look less corporate and feel more human.

After a decade of buying the most expensive iPhone in the lineup, I'm ready for the lower end. It'll be a major leap from my iPhone X which has lasted 4 years and has shown no signs of slowing down, but is lacking features like night mode. I'd love a much smaller iPhone. That 5.4" all screen iPhone is right in the Goldilocks zone for me.

Yeah, hard to see the point in upgrading to a phone which, since it hasn’t been announced yet, we know nothing about other than its shape.

Boring.. Samsung is killing it with the design.
The hole punch in the screen drives me nuts, personally ... like there's a bug on my screen that won't go away.

iPhone X is 3 years old.. not 4.

The new features on iPhones since the X have been seriously lackluster. The market has peaked. It’s okay to not be excited about an iPhone.

It’s not okay to be excited or to be not excited before you even know anything about the phone other than the shape. Don’t they teach kids to not judge a book by its cover anymore?

I want that 5.4" iPhone so bad, but I'm not sure I want to give up the telephoto lends (I'd rather it be missing the ultra-wide). However, if the 6.1" Pro also gets some variant of ProMotion then I'll end up with that.

Those had better be dummy models. The sides look like cheap chrome plated material.
It should look better with Stainless steel perhaps brushed like the IPhone 4.

Bummer. I Would have much preferred a non Pro iPad design. Curved back and flat face.

The curved back feels much nicer in the hand. The current curved 3D glass is completely pointless. Just makes it harder/more expensive to manufacture and more prone to cracking as it’s thinner at the edges.

Agreed. This design is a step backwards in my opinion.Squared edges in a larger phone will be less comfortable in the hand.

The curved edges make the bezel look massive. Flat is so much cleaner. In fact, I wish they would also make the corners less rounded so the screen isn’t curved at the corners.

Also, I’m not sure if the flat edges will make it less wide, but if so, that would be welcome.

I don’t think comfort will be a notable issue.

Fair enough, but there's nothing going to be groundbreaking about it. Grid of icons. Slightly better camera. 10% more battery. A?x whatever chip, 999 for a 128GB, 1299 for a 256. Its the same crap we eat up every year and this year will be no different. I'll still prolly be getting one, as I skipped 11 because I still owe 800$ on my XS.
