I love the leather cases from Apple. My old iPhone 5s leather case is still in pretty good condition :)

As I've already stated, most people know about the patina process regarding leather. I'd even say it's one of the benefits of leather that people look forward to seeing. As I've also already said, this ain't that. No one expects a permanent imprint in their leather case in less than a week.
An imprint is not unexpected at all for leather when pressure is applied over time to the material.

Here’s my wallet made by Bellroy who specialise in making rather thin leather wallets. Due to the material not being hugely padded, things inside the wallet leave an impression that’s visible externally over time, in this case the card. Exact same as having a magnetic force applied to a leather case for prolonged periods will do.

I don’t think I that sort of wear is unreasonable and it’s consistent with how many other leather goods behave. Unless you have stacks of padding, it’ll mould itself around things being pressed into it. In the case of MagSafe the pucks pressing directly against the leather surface.

To be honest it doesn't look all that bad. As the magnets make sure that the imprint is a perfect circle around the Apple logo it's far from the worst thing I have ever seen. Would have preferred there to be no imprint but at least it's not something that looks awful.

It's funny because Magsafe is literally a gimmick that makes the phone harder to pickup from its charger (charger comes with) and also imprints marks on your leather cases but also even on the silicon cases as metal shavings in your environment will stick to the magnets on the case and even on the back of your phone over time, even in quite clean environments pieces of iron in the air eventually collect.

Such a bizarre "feature" that pretty much makes the phone worse. I will never understand some of Apples decisions, honestly.
Sometimes they release products and ideas before they are ready to bear their fruit. In this case, if rumors are true, Apple is going to remove the charging port completely. This remedies that problem. It also opens up a whole new world of charging possibilities when (not if, when) Apple releases removable wireless charging magsafe pucks that you can carry with you to charge your phone and other devices.

So yes, while right now magsafe may not seem all that useful that's becuase it isn't. But its just Apple introducing the product to us before they make it something that is incredibly useful.

It's leather, it should be expected

Ordered my usual, a saddle brown one this morning

Ordered the black 12 max pro leather case

No one has mentioned this, but it is possible even if you don't get the mag safe charger puck, and use a wireless charging pad, how do we know the same ring won't show up regardless from use and so forth....? the magnets are in the case over the use of the case the ring will show in one way or another.

Couldn't this be avoided if the metal on the MagSafe charger is not bare, maybe covered with plastic/cloth? Or would that make the charger not work? Just wondering.

Exactly. I don’t understand why anyone would make a big deal of this. The beauty of leather is that it wears over time and gets better with age.
The leather used on older apple cases blisters and roughens rather than wearing and raging like a good belt or pair of shoes, at least for me. I assume that's because my skin is the type that attacked the early lightning cables, causing damage to the glue or something of that sort.

The Apple is fricken centered, that is awesome!
First time I saw the image I thought indeed it was “as designed”. I think the wearing and imprint of the leather case is kinda cool (akin to wore jeans sort of). Apple could have thrown a marketing spin on it, a breaking period of sorts before it “reveals the final state of the case”

And by metal shavings I really mean dust like particles of magnetically attracted material in the air. It's honestly everywhere. If you've ever seen an iPad case after a year (it has magnets inside) you'll notice how there is metallic "shavings" stuck to the lid only where the magnets are positioned. I see it on other peoples iPad cases everywhere I go, they look pristine except for where the magnets are which have attracted metal dust particles or whatever it is etc

I travel a lot and see it on planes and in airports, in other countries etc it's not a local problem I don't even own one.

Don’t assume the ‘metallic dust’ problem is universal. I’ve owned several iPads with the magnetic covers and they have never attracted iron shavings. Such ‘shavings’ are common in soil. If you take a magnet outside and move it around on the soil you will quickly collect some, but I’ve never had any show up on my magnetic covers.

How is this considered an "issue"?

Clearly, this is not an issue for for many here and Apple included. They are normalising a product that does not look clean because of imprints. This was avoidable with simple wireless charging. They created this - issue. But yes, it does seem that somehow people really do not care what they get anymore from Apple.

I also think next year or next to next, we may see a newer MagSafe and/ or cases that don’t cause this non-issue.

These chargers and phones are also attracting people and money apart from metal shavings. Apple cares about first two.

Customer: "The MagSafe charger is wrecking my leather case"

Apple: "It's normal"

And intentional, so that we can design this like we should have in the first place and release the next version of MoMagSafe at a slightly higher premium than the current ones. Maybe $179 for the Duo Charger 2.0.

Just buy a new one when the rings wear in. That’s what I always do. I love giving Apple all my money. LOL.

but seriously I’ll get a new leather case when the one I’m using gets sufficiently worn.

"Oh no! My leather drink coasters are showing imprints of glasses that I put on them."

Seriously though, for those in the "I can't see the benefits of MagSafe over regular wireless charging" camp are either missing or ignoring a couple of things:

Regarding "why not just regular Qi charging": Wireless charging is inefficient. Being able to precisely place a device on its charger diminishes that inefficiency. The easiest way to do that is with magnets. If you come up with a better way, then patent it and come out with a product.

Regarding "it's just as difficult as connecting a lightning cable": no, it isn't if you use a dock. Placing something with magnets is much simpler than lining up a phone on a lightning dock, especially one on your bedside table after you've turned out the light.
