That literally makes no sense at all. The puck is quite large and cumbersome to pickup with the phone. Apples marketing is all about alignment. Apparently people can't align a phone to a Qi charger to save their lives.

And by metal shavings I really mean dust like particles of magnetically attracted material in the air. It's honestly everywhere. If you've ever seen an iPad case after a year (it has magnets inside) you'll notice how there is metallic "shavings" stuck to the lid only where the magnets are positioned. I see it on other peoples iPad cases everywhere I go, they look pristine except for where the magnets are which have attracted metal dust particles or whatever it is etc

I travel a lot and see it on planes and in airports, in other countries etc it's not a local problem I don't even own one.
Idk I manage to use my phone with puck attached and have no issues

Well, looks Apple’s Leather Folio Case that’s was introduced with the iPhone X and then available for the Xs and 11 Pro has been definitively killed off.

I guess it was either unpopular or Apple just wanted to push the MagSafe Leather Wallet to take its place - which is a pity because I’m not convinced at this stage it’s better than the old Folio.
The Folio case was definitely clumsy for using the camera...
I'm not convinced the MagSafe Leather Wallet is a great idea, but then I'm not much interested in the "use my phone as a wallet" lifestyle, so I'm the wrong person to ask.

I think there's scope for an alternative that does what the folio did, with a kinda screen protection, but maybe using a magsafe connector to attach to the back. When you want to take photos, pull it off the back...

One way you could test what Apple is thinking would be to see if the front-facing magnets on the side of the Pro Max are still there. I wouldn't yet bet that Apple have killed off the folio; accessories always appear slowly after the main product.

Don’t blame the user. The phones do not give proper feedback that they are charging on the Qi. And 1 in 5 times in my experience the iPhone doesn’t recognize it’s on a charger. You can place it perfectly but oh well.

But having it stick to it isn’t for me. Might as well plug in the lightning cable.

That is true. However, said wear over time doesn’t start off with a big circle imprint on your case. That isn’t natural wear.
It’s not like Apple is trying to hide it. They’re fully transparent about it:

“This case is made with high-quality, supple leather to protect your iPhone. Leather is a natural material and like a fine leather belt, it may show creases, marks, or a patina over time. Interaction with MagSafe accessories will leave slight imprints (as shown in the last image of the gallery). If you are concerned about this, we suggest you use an iPhone 12 | 12 Pro Silicone or Clear Case”

Yers, they are being forthright since it was pointed out to them. I won’t be using MagSafe so the leather case will wear naturally for me without the oval imprint.

I think they'll be more uproar once those without a case will see a nice circle of micro-scratches on the glass back over time....those microscopic magnetic particles are going to be everywhere

Transparent...hmm, me thinks they are protecting themselves from lawsuits most likely or the significant returns

Ummm, but you are in the "use my phone as a camera" lifestyle? Sorry, couldn't resist. Try it. You might like it. Or maybe you have a purse (not a dig)? For me, my phone with a wallet case means in the morning I just have to reach for one thing. not look for two. and even better, if I misplace my wallet now, I can just call it and bingo, find it.

btw, did you own one? because I found the folio case clumsy for using the camera only the first few times, you quickly learn how to hold it so the case actually helps get a more stable grip. And it can be used to position the camera much like a makeshift tripod. Anyway, just saying there are reasons why the folio case was popular with those of us that used them. I get that you don't see the need. choice is great.

I do hope you are right about the folio being released at a later date. They typically announce it at the start, but have added additional colors later. My guess is they are hoping people jump on their MagSafe wallet instead and that this would be redundant. I predict they will find they were wrong, but probably not in time for the iPhone 12 line.

You know guitar player pay extra for guitars that look worn in already. I was the fashion awhile back to buy jeans and other clothes that had holes and worn in look. Now... Oh my god my phone protector looks like it was doing its job!!! Good thing Apple doesn't make condoms Apple users would never have sex.

OMG. Can you imagine? Use only once and throw it away? Apple doesn't care about the environment! And their market is misleading, they never show us how messy it gets. And the packaging is so boring, where are the origami folding designs. Steve would never have done this, just ask Lisa...

The easy fix is for Apple to modify their corporate logo to include a giant circle around it. Problem solved. If someone could pass my Venmo address along to Tim, that would be great.

Apple's not trying to represent a mark from the MagSafe, it's a wear mark from the embedded magnets.

In other words, even if you never use MagSafe, you should expect to see the ring wear pattern.

Smart of Apple to put this in their product pages. That way, there are no surprises.

Also, it seems something expected, given they've put a ring on their clear cases... It just seems to me like their making lemonade here like they did with the notch.

So now, like the notch, the ring around the Apple will become an "iconic" thing.

I believe this is all in preparation for the next or so iPhone models to have MagSafe as the primary charging method and the bottom port will go the way of the headphone jack.

EDIT: Also, MagSafe charging is NOT required (you can still use Qi and the bottom port for now), so for those concerned just don't use MagSafe.

Arghh I can’t get the blue leather case until mid December for the max. Do they release some for pick up in the store on release day?

Just picked one up today. It’s by far best case Apple has come out with IMO, thin and light but sturdy and protective, I love that I can see the metal band of my phone in the case feels very luxury and is beautiful.

I’m not too worried about the “ring”, similar to other wear and tear my previous leather cases got I think it looks fine. I do wish they would have maybe gone all-in with the ring like the clear case and just make it a statement piece but oh well.

My only real complaint about the case is in order to compensate for making it thinner and lighter they added extra plastic protection around the camera area - and it makes it just barely not sit flush on a table. All my previous iPhones sit flush on a table in their leather cases. This may be a dealbreaker for me in time, but is currently outweighed by the other improvements so we will see.
