If you are referring to the current (2nd generation) iPhone SE, then the iPhone 12 mini will be actually smaller than that. The screen diagonal is longer (5.4" vs 4.7") but the footprint of the phone will be considerably smaller thanks to the edge to edge display.

clarification regarding footprint please, mock up pictures preferred.

SE (2020) vs 12 Mini

how wide is the 12 Mini supposedly compared to the SE 2020?

it would have to be taller, but less wide to allow for the screen bigger diagonal right?

The 12 Pro Max will replace my 11 Pro Max and the 12 mini will replace my SE 2020.Can’t wait!
Wow, that’s a versatile lineup. I like it.

I’ve got a regular 11Pro and an SE2020. But even I can’t bring myself to replace both, and I’m completely nuts.🤣

I might replace the SE with the mini. It would be nice to go even smaller, gain a camera lens and maybe eke out a bit more battery life on the tiny form factor. But I need to see what they say about the cheaper BOE brand display before I make that call.

I’ve been saying iPhone 12 mini for a while now. It makes much more sense than 12 max and 12 max pro, both at different sizes.

12 mini for me please 🤓
Same! It's anecdotal, but I really believe there's a market for a mini phone. Also, Apple needs to simplify their naming, and this is another step in the right direction.

The iPhone 12mini is going to be the “One More Thing” this year. Because it’s new and intriguing and unexpected (to the public at large).
The amount of stuff they are holding back on, it will have to be “Just 3 more things”!

I love the new naming scheme. Can't wait to get my hands on the new mini.

Ya know, if you want to get your hands on the mini, you can do that in the shower on a cold morning. :p

Sorry, I just couldn't resist. Please don't take it the wrong way, it's nothing personal.

I'm looking forward to either the 6.1" 12 or the Pro, but not sure which one I'll go with. If the camera is the only thing that makes the Pro "pro" I'll go with the plain 12. I only take basic snapshots with my phone anyway.

Looking forward to the new retro design and 5G even if it's limited roll out right now. I all ready have a solid buyer for my Xr...

All these different naming conventions are becoming confusing.... they could quite simply have the same naming convention for all of their lines

Product / Grade / Year / Size (if needed)

With three grades of products:

SE / Standard / Pro

-

-AirPods SE / AirPods / AirPods Pro
Already have standard and pro lines, likely a cheaper line will come along.

-iPhone SE / iPhone / iPhone Pro
Already have all of these three.

-iPad SE / iPad / iPad Pro
The iPad becoming iPad SE, iPad Air just becoming iPad.

-MacBook SE / MacBook / MacBook Pro
MacBook SE if they bring back the standard MacBook, the MacBook Air just being called MacBook.

-iMac SE / iMac / iMac Pro
Similar to MacBook line if they introduced a cheaper iMac line

-

As for mini lines these are just on a per product line basis if one comes along... having this naming convention will set the standard...

SE - Cheapest
Standard - The main standard of the line
Pro - The best of the line with all extra bells and whistles
Mini - The standard but in a smaller package

It can just be iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro, each in two sizes. It works with iPads, MacBooks, Apple Watch... Why not with iPhones? The naming woud be much more elegant

So close... Why the pro max moniker though!?

iPhone XX -> iPhone Air
iPhone XX Pro -> iPhone
iPhone XX Pro Max -> iPhone Pro

Would be so much damn simpler!

"iPhone 12 mini"? That’s so cute! 😍🤗🥰
You just gave credence to my theory that Apple is going to destroy have very, very high sales numbers if they release a "mini" phone in pretty colors. Your reaction will be amplified a hundred-fold across the world 😁

If you think about, this naming scheme is designed to move users up the ASP chain.

You don't want to buy a mini right? Buy the 12, 2nd cheapest.
Wait, you're gonna shoot 4K video? Ah you better get the Pro then.
Oh you want a supercomputer in your pocket for work? Get the Pro MAX

Presumably they'll all have the same A14 processor... which will likely be the fastest smartphone chip in the world at that time.

So they'll all be supercomputers! :)

The way Apple has gone with their marketing lately has made it very frustrating for me to know what I want anymore.
What I mean by that is, when the iPhone 6 to iPhone 8 were new, there were two sizes. the regular and plus models. It made it easier to choose which one was the right fit. With Apple's design changes starting with the X, I really don't know what to buy anymore when it comes to upgrading my phone. Right now my 7 Plus has what I need, and it works. It's going on 3 years with 92% Maximum battery health. I've considered switching to an android phone just because there are more options where it matters to me. But I like iOS, but don't like some of apple's physical design changes.

I suppose since my current iPhone is in great condition and it still works and meets my needs, I really don't need anything newer until what I have stops working.
