I find it hilarious that on every Apple forum on the internet you saw wailing and moaning about how they should just “RELEASE A SMALL IPHONE”. Comments for years, indignant rude comments. “Why cant they just get it together???”

So Apple does and... production cut due to low interest 😂

I love it.

it would fit nicely in the $499 price range.

a $100 bump from SE2 seems fair for a generation new proc, dual cams, faceID + OLED
How magnanimous of you to inform Apple as to how they should price their iPhones given your extensive knowledge of their supply chain, marketing and R&D costs.

I’m sure Tim Cook is having his assistant call in your Fruit Of The Month Club order as I type this reply.

I think it was too late, Mini should have been made years ago,by now most people who wanted a small phone already moved on and got used to medium sized phones.

12/12 Pro/Max are breaking records, not 12 Mini
Name of 12 Mini is misleading, this is not an iPhone Mini by any means, its perfect size in one hand unless you are over 6''3 with gigantic hands, far from what people usually call ''Mini''
iPhone 5S/SE (first gen), that's a mini
How can you name an iPhone ''Mini'' with 5'4 screen size?!
That's even bigger than screen size from iPhone 6/7/8 Plus
You're kidding, right?

The dimensions of the 5 and 12 Mini are nearly identical. It has a 5.4" screen because an inch of real estate isn't taken by the forehead and chin, it's just all screen. 5 millimeters wider, 8 millimeters taller.

In the end, what hurt iPhone 12 mini sales was the availability of the iPhone SE (2020). The iPhone SE (2020) can do most things like the iPhone 12 mini but it's also much less expensive, and most importantly with the pandemic, unlocks with Touch ID
...and it's not that that much larger.

They basically fragmented the market for small phones between SE (2020) and mini - releasing the SE earlier.

Yes, they SE has a smaller screen. But it doesn't matter.

The mini is obviously not bought for size of its screen - but for its portability and smaller physical dimensions, if anything. But those in the market for a "small" phone can get one that's not much larger: a small and still new phone for much less money: the SE. Which also happens to be more Corona-proof (fingerprint).

I was referring to from the consumer perspective, in terms of attraction to draw sales for the perceived value / in relation to another decent iPhone called the SE2 launched the same year at $399 — thanks armchair business analyst.

Well yeah, it's insanely expensive and they made it way bigger than the 4" SE 1 which is the mini size that everyone was looking for. All they had to do was 1) make it smaller to begin with, 2) make it cheaper. Instead they released yet another phablet monstrosity and called it a "mini" and people who actually wanted a small phone still had nowhere to go. Who was this device actually for?

“The price is too high” crowd makes no sense. It’s the same phone as the 12, which costs $100 more, except screen size and battery life. And the screen size is the point, obviously. How is the 12 not overpriced if the 12 mini is?
Spoiler: both are overpriced.

Why dont you understand, the only thing that does matter its screen size not overall phone size
5 and 12 Mini arent nearly identical either, i had SE first generation right before getting 12 Mini, 12 Mini feels considerably bigger in hands with much larger screen
All i can say, neither 12 Mini isnt mini when you got in your hands nor its a big phone either
Its somewhat the perfect size between screen size and phone!

I think Apple found out the hard way that given the economic conditions AND with the pandemic requirements, the iPhone SE (2020) became really desirable even with the somewhat short battery life. Especially with the US$549 unlocked price for the 256 GB model.

You’re equating price to size primarily and features secondarily and ignoring the actual product segmentation that Apple creates (artificially or not) for the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro Series versus the rest of the lineup. Trying to link them together in some sort of chain is not how Apple views them at all. The 12 and 12 Pro are entirely separate from the rest of the iPhone family, with the SE2 it’s own product line and the XR and 11 simply last year’s models being sold for less to soften the $$$ jump from the SE2 to the 12 mini. To Apple, the current models (12/12 Pro) represents the best Apple has to offer and the rest are serious afterthoughts, including the SE2. When viewed in that context, the mini pricing makes complete sense. However, Apple doesn’t need anyone to grok it, it is what it is.

I've just moved from 11 Pro Max to 12 Mini. And I am more than happy. Instead of carrying a brick in my pocket I now have a phone. I use it the same way (reading papers, websites etc.) and surprisingly cannot see much difference.
I made the change only because of dimensions and weight of the device. Seems I go against the tide :/

I’m giving my opinion of an attractive price that makes sense to me

nothing more nothing less

I mean yeah when you're someone who's willing to drop $1100 on a silly smartphone of course you think $800 is reasonable. I'd rather not overpay for something I only begrudingly own, knowing it's a huge part of what destroyed the internet as we used to know it and is part of the driving force behind low attention spans, political polarization, misinformation and all sorts of negative side effects upon the human race.
