Modification I made to a cheap case. Aluminum foil in contact with the right side frame wrapped around to the position where my index finger rests. Works 100% of the time now. I'm still going to try to adjust to using the Mini naked with a sleeve.

View attachment 1667197Nice! I thought about doing this but I wasn’t sure if the foil might scuff up the aluminum sides of the phone. Does it look pretty safe to you?

can you post a short clip on how you use it? just to get an idea where to use the foil.

Having the same issue here. Glad I found this thread, I was searching last night trying to find if anyone else had this issue.

I have this issue also on my new mini. Works fine without case (Apple leather) but issues with case on. Particularly problematic when wearing a mask, as FaceID doesn’t work, and this issue basically disables a passcode unlock also.

Updated to iOS 14.3 and the issue is way better as far as unlocking. The flashlight and camera toggles still only work when using the tip of your thumb. Unlocking still isn’t 100 percent but is way better than before. You’ll need to enroll your iPhone into the public beta for the 14.3

Im using the apple leather case and bodyguards prtx synthetic glass screen protector btw

On an Apple senior advisor’s advice I returned the phone and got another today. Blue, 256 gb. Same issue as before with touches not working (primarily thumbs) with case and screen protector on. Still on iOS 14.1 (I updated to 14.2 on my last one and it had the same issue). The whole putting a finger on the lightning port thing seems to bypass the issue, although treating my phone like Sean William Scott in the movie Roadtrip is a little weird.

Will probably return and get my money back and wait until Apple fixes. Is QA not a thing at Apple anymore?

You can touch the camera rings while unlocking instead. Definitely easier lol

I am pass the cancel order phase since no option online in my order to do it but I will call and see if I can still cancel tomorrow by chat/phone.

Apple just asked me to return my phone...😡
So how does that work with people who are on the iPhone upgrade program and turned in their existing phone? You have to get a 12 or a 12 Pro model to have a properly working phone?

Solution:
Activate touch accomodation. (Touch Anpassung in german).
No hold duration!
Activate “use initial touch..”
Scroll down all to the bottom and activate swipe gestures (Streichgesten).
Set swipe gestures to standard.

My phone now works as intended with silicon case and screen protector.
Normal typing is a bit weird now, swipe to type works quite good.

Have the Belken Privacy screen took my phone to apple today. I was told it might be a software issue and expect an update from Apple soon. My walk around is to swipe down from the top of screen and pick an app from the control center and after it seems to work fine afterwards. Hopefully they come out with fix fast because overall it's a very nice phone

I can’t find the activate swipe gestures (Streichgesten) you speak of, can you post English screenshot?

Edit: never mind. I found it. And it does work same as my suggestion, but make the touch feel a bit weird, so it’s a solution that introduce a new problem instead, just like my suggestion.

Does this help?
The “swipe gesture” setting is all at the bottom.

Thumbs up for ingenuity!

But wow. Why does everyone have to resort to THIS to get a >$800 device to work as advertised.

Apple. Get your **** together 😂

Right after I got my iPhone 12 Mini I put on a PanzerGlass screen protector and started using it.
My problem is touch on the lock screen, if i try to use the torch or pause/play music it only respons sometimes.
After i unlock the iPhone touch works great, but on the lockscreen I have to get lucky with the touch to get the response.
Anyone else having this issue?
iPhone 12 users (especially iPhone 12 mini):

I’m a nurse. I have to wear a mask all day. There’s some sort of issue with the iPhone 12 mini (possibly all iPhone 12s). I’m hoping it’s just a software glitch & not a hardware problem.

Basically, when you put the phone up so Face ID can scan your face, but due to it not recognizing your face with a mask, it then prompts you to:

A. Swipe up to unlock

B. Put in your passcode

Both steps A & B the screen sensitivity drops to almost zero when using your thumbs. Instead you must use one of your 4 fingers or the very tip/s of your thumbs to get the screen to acknowledge your thumbs.

I just dropped $1,000 on this phone & was planning on keeping it the usual 3-5 years. Not if it’s a hardware issue.

***So, please try tricking your iPhone 12/iPhone 12 mini Face ID by wearing a mask when prompted. If you’re having the same issue, please comment below & call the Apple Support number I provided below & report the issue. First line responders will thank you 🙏🏻 . We need this issue fixed fast please. I’m not sure if all iPhone 12 phones have the issue. But that’s why I made this post to bring awareness to it. It’s a pretty big issue because it’s a pain in the rear to access your phone, especially for first responders.

Yes, did not notice a new option getting visual at the bottom. It works much better than my suggestion. But touch is still acting a bit weird, but much better now.

Everyone should try this, and be happy until an official fix.

Edit: well it’s not good. The 0.10 seconds makes it almost impossible to write on the keyboard. So it’s up to Apple now, to fix it quickly.

I believe the reason why this is happening is that the iPhone 12 is trying to prevent unlocking accidentally when it's in your pocket. It needs your skin to touch the sides as a ground, this is the reason why the foil trick works and/or touching the charge port.

Having a case installed eliminates the ground contact and the iPhone thinks it's getting ghost touches while it's in your pocket.
