It’s obvious you didn’t read the rest of my post about not being able to answer calls.
I understand your frustration and since I don’t own a 12 Mini I really don’t have a dog in this fight. But if I did, and I really liked the phone, I would use it without a case for at least a week to see if Apple says anything or comes up with a solution. This still gives you time to return it or, hopefully keep it if the issue gets resolved.

Count me in too. Normal use of thumbs on the lock screen (swiping, notification long-touch, flashlight, camera, widget pane) is janky with a case on, but works fine with the case off. I have a glass ESR screen protector installed.

Weirdly, if I’m careful and only use the tip of my thumb it works. Seems like some combination of case and touch contact area to me, which makes no sense. I’m considering returning my mini for now since I still have my old 11 pro (glad I didn’t sell it right away), then re-buying down the road if/when this gets sorted out.

Not yet - people just need to keep contacting them about the problem.
They know about it

Are we talking about opening the camera and flashlight from the lockscreen,?.if so I have that also have it on my iphone.11.Pro.Max. ill test some of my other ipbones.

FWIW, I've had the same problem as described by everyone else. With an Apple case and a zagg protector, I can't answer the phone or put in my unlock code. Without the case, everything seems to work fine, but with the case and screen protector it's a disaster. 14.2 was installed right after I activated the phone.

I don’t have these issues with a clear case and screen protector on my son’s mini. I have the same kind of both on all of our 12s.

Apple better fix this asap. I'm receiving my Mini tomorrow and was browsing for screen protectors; many of them already got 1 star ratings on Amazon because of the touch issues. As a basic customer, of course you would expect that such basic things as unlocking the phone work perfectly fine, and put the blame on some Chinese tempered glass manufacturer instead.

YES!!!! I was like what the F!?!?!? I returned the phone and got a different one. I went to put the screen protector back on and it came out bad so I just chucked it! Phone works absolutely fine with just a case.

Belkin SP sold by apple.
Apple leather case

How does anyone know if Apple even knows about this? Have they acknowledged it anywhere?
No they haven’t yet, but you’re able to use the official feedback form so that they’ll be able to fix it with a software update. Report here, and avise others to do the same, or it’ll never be fixed. Dob’t forget to mention that you’re on 14.2 because tgat’s not an option from the dropdown menu https://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

Thank you to all the people who responded to my earlier post.
I don’t care too much about this anymore. Until we get an update use the lower camera as a “Touch ID” to use the lockscreen lol

Just called apple. The first guy told me I‘m not the only one who called because of this issue. Secondo adviser tried to say it could be related to the fact that I‘m using a third part case and not the original one. Told her that the same issue happens with the original case. She then asked to do a phone reset but told her that I will do it only if it really helps otherwise not because it would cost me 2-3 hours. She didn’t insist. She will investigate and call me back.

Don’t bother with a reset. I spent the whole weekend resetting and installing from scratch, from backups, from everything under the sun with the apple bar people and it still was a problem. Huge waste of time! Wish I found this thread earlier!

Well that tells me that this isn't a well known problem within Apple yet which is frustrating. I was hoping they would have released a support advisory to their techs by now. Hopefully we'll see some more traction on this today given it's the first business day post release.

Got my mini a couple of hours ago from Amazon UK. Also had a rhinoshield solidsuit case delivered so I didn't bother with the caseology pop case I had in hand. Put the ESR screen protector on it and the rhino case and unlocking the phone works perfectly(single hand, not plugged in, updated to 14.2 during setup). Flashlight and camera buttons I have to use the tip of my thumb but I can wait for a fix for that. Also I got to say I love the size of the phone and, coming from a Xs, it feels really really fast.

Better have someone call you and see if you are able to answer from the Lock Screen.

I'm not running into a lot of issues, but I do have a slight issue with touch input on lock screen when inputting the lock code, sometimes the digits won't register and I have to keep pressing it. I doubt Apple will have a software fix for it. But maybe I'll be wrong and it'll be able to be resolved that way.

Here's some insider info, guys - take it or leave it.
The issue is a hardware one (in short - Mini is too small for modern components, and some hacky solutions had to be applied), and it's much more pronounced on lock screen due to protection against butt dials. The flaw was discovered at later stages of production, so the cutout in official silicone case is not a whimsical decision. Apple is preparing a statement currently, and the course of actions is most likely a recall of big batch of Minis. There is a chance they may try to do it in a similar way to iPhone 4 - I don't know the details of this solution, but if they go this way it'd most likely be a case with some conductive parts per customer. I've also heard about probably trying to goad users into not using screen protectors, but that is already well into rumors territory.
If that was the case, Apple would have delayed the mini rather than releasing them and then tarnish their brand trust.

Mine is near unusable with any thicker cases, finicky with thinner ones. When I had the leather case on I missed 2 calls last night. I really don't want to go caseless (partially because the mounts I keep my phone in to accept calls at my desk and in the car need a case on this phone to not fall out constantly) so if there's no software fix then I might have to return it. It's a shame too because other than this it's an excellent piece of hardware.
