Yes I’ve mentioned in this thread twice now that I’m not having issues with using a screen protector combined with either a genuine Apple MagSafe Baltic Blue leather case or a Peel ultra-case.

This is the screen protector I have:

***** Compatible with iPhone 12 mini Screen Protector, Screen Protector replacement for iPhone 12 mini Tempered Glass 5.4 inch(3 Pack) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08CV1TVF6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabt1_R0PSFbYNWDWH6?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I appreciate that (might pick it up to test out), sorry if yours must've gotten lost in the shuffle of all the other posts!

My Pitaka case just arrived and I can confirm that the Pitaka case somewhat remedies this issue. Since it has cutouts for the ports, if you rest your pinky on the exposed metal of the bottom of the phone the thumb presses register properly.

I think this is why people with the Apple clear cases are also "not having any issues" if they're inadvertently resting the phone on their pinky.

For the record, I can also answer calls with no issues with the ESR case/screen protector combo on my phone. I'm sure there must be something going on with so many people reporting the issue; the question is whether or not this is fixable via a software update or not.

When the issue is happening, it tends to work with a very light touch with one of the more narrow fingers (i.e. not the thumb). So I wonder if some people are not noticing it because they touch their screens very lightly already. 🤷‍♂️

Just did some call tests (ESR screen protector, Tech21 case) and finger can swipe to answer, thumb can't, so that kind of correlates with the other touch-related issues people have been seeing. I wonder if there is some truth to how light the touch or the thumb size?

Are you swiping to answer calls with your thumb? Which ESR case?

You are the only one I've heard of that don't have this problem. Your iPhone must have been "custom made" :)

My wife’s mini works perfectly for her but when I try to swipe up it won’t. When I manage to get the code Lock Screen, it will not allow me to type in a password. So I’m guessing it’s also depending on thumb size or we have different conductive properties in our bodies 🤷🏻‍♂️🤣...really strange problem apple has on their hands.

... what about the bug if using a leather case instead of a silicone case?

How can you use an iPhone 12 Mini with iOS 14.1?
Good question. I think it’s because I downloaded a backup that had 14.1 installed on my other iPhone. It says current software is 14.1 in settings though

Using a Spigen case and screen protector here. The only thing I can't do is lay the mini on a table and turn on the flashlight and/or camera. Everything else, touch wise, works without picking the phone up, Unlock, answering calls, reacting to notifications etc. As far as the flashlight and camera are concerned, I'm glad they don't come on unless the phone is in my hand. Would not be of use unless I was holding the phone anyway.

Same problem to mine 12 mini here in Italy, I've just requested a device replacement to Apple (I attached a video)

12 PM user here, but asked my husband (software developer) about this problem and he has the theory that it might be a threshold problem in the software, related to the capacitive display. Without me telling him about what you guys have been testing, he said touching it with a smaller finger or just the tip of the thumb should improve the response (which you guys have confirmed). He says the mini's smaller screen diagonal might be the problem here (the sensors are in the corners of the screen). If that's the case, it's just a software issue. I thought I'd let you know about this theory. Maybe someone can look into it.

Crossing my fingers for you guys! I believe that Apple will be able to fix this with a software update.

That’s what it seems like. And it only seems to be exacerbated on the Lock Screen.

Except the fact that touching a metal part of the phone solves the problem... obviously, there is a grounding issue
