12 Mini - Spigen screen protector and hybrid case. Lock Screen issue. Mostly on the left side (4). Only on the Lock Screen.

Right after I got my iPhone 12 Mini I put on a PanzerGlass screen protector and started using it.
My problem is touch on the lock screen, if i try to use the torch or pause/play music it only respons sometimes.
After i unlock the iPhone touch works great, but on the lockscreen I have to get lucky with the touch to get the response.
Anyone else having this issue?
I removed my screen protector and it works fine now. The only issue was with the lock screen. Hopefully apple makes a fix

Wow it does seem to be a grounding issue! I have a Cadaube cablear case with an ESR full screen protector. I have the same issues. What seems to fix it consistently is placing a finger on an exposed piece of metal (case has cutouts) such as the power button while typing In the passcode or toggling the flashlight. Remove contact and it’s back to the same issues.

Definitely seems to be a grounding issue. My Lock Screen works fine when I’m plugged in. Hopefully they can get a fix out ASAP. I’m also going to try a non-glass screen protector to see if that’ll help too

Having this issue as well. Maybe I'm just nitpicky but this is a PITA when you're trying to get into your phone quickly to check something, or having to input your code with your mask on and it take 2-3 tries because it's not reading your touches.

If this is a grounding issue, I have concerns that software can't fix it.

We should all definitely be reporting this to Apple.

GUYS GUYS GUYS, I have 100% figured out the issue. This is a sad TRUTH to the issue. This is a hardware issue, which I don’t know for sure if can be fixed with software updates! Everyone that has this problem. The flashlight is the perfect test. It either works with your thumb perfectly on and off flawlessly or doesn’t. The reason it works with the case off is because for whatever reason, every single Case that goes on the iPhone 12 mini or the iPhone 12 mini power button doesn’t have the proper support to stay UN-PRESSED, while the cases’ push button sits next to power button. The side power button on right hand side is being pressed a small amount with every single case!

WATCH, put your finger and push against case only where side power button is and push case away from power side button and watch how easy the flashlight works with your thicker thumb, thinner thumb whatever. It’s the POWER button that’s being pressed lightly by all cases causing this issue!!!

APPLE THIS IS 100% confirmed. TIME FOR RECALL!!!!!

Calm down.. it happens with the case of too.....

Your theory is false because if I hold down the power button the flashlight still works even if my phone is out of the case.

Mine works fine on the clear ESR case I have and a matte glass screen protector.

The issue is the power button being pressed slightly, not all the way, once the power button is held down it’s not registered multiple times like when a case is on.

theory not false. Already 100% confirmed.

Accept that it can't be replicated. I've tried doing various amounts of pressure on the power button without actually clicking it (which it doesn't really seem to move at all), without a case on, and it unlocks normal every time, without any hesitation or touch issue.

When I pull the edge of my case out to relieve any pressure off of the power button nothing changes. Flashlight and camera shortcuts are still totally unresponsive.

So I’m 100% sure this is just a software issue, not even screen protector or hardware issue.

I think that the Lock Screen is essentially trying to do too many things at the same time and not fully registering inputs

I’ve tested this by waiting for all animations and face scans to stop and then inputting my passcode slower than I would usually and that’s worked 100% of the time. It gets all buggy as soon as I try to input it as soon as the numpad comes up.

Be patient and wait for them to patch it up

I hope you’re right but I don’t understand why I only have this problem with a case on the phone. Without the case it works totally fine all the time.

Spigen Core case, Insignia glass screen protector here.

Here's what I tested which makes me think it's software + a grounding issue - which again, has me very concerned that software might not fix it completely.

With case on and face halfway covered (i.e. face unlock not working):
  • Touch flashlight multiple times, no response
  • Move finger into mute switch hole with contact with frame
  • Touch flashlight multiple times, responds every time
  • Remove finger from mute switch hole
  • Touch flashlight multiple times, no response
  • Tested touching other exposed parts of body (camera area, charging port) - same results
However, when I allowed Face ID to unlock it, but remain on the lock screen, I still have swipe issues, but the flashlight works every time, regardless of skin contact with the body.

🤷‍♂️

Edit: Generally the behavior on the lock screen does seem to be worse when Face ID has *not* unlocked it first.

Edit 2: That also makes me wonder if it's a sleep/wake issue - like maybe for some reason it doesn't think it's quite awake yet, but when it recognizes the touch, the system hits a more awake state allowing for a more responsive touch screen. Mine behaves perfectly once unlocked.

Are you using the official Apple case? They added magnets that make the phones software react to it. It might be in optimized and whenever it detects a magnet tries to do something

The one I’m testing only does it with a case on which makes me thing it has something to do with the OS scaled to that small screen and the touch points on the home screen indicator. Should be fixed in an update. Anyone on 14.3 beta 1??

Also I just discovered it also works perfectly fine when the phone is plugged into a power source. This really seems like a hardware issue to me.

Yes, I’m using an Apple leather case and a tech armor tempered glass screen protector. Without the case it works fine 100% of the time. With the case on, lockscreen is sluggish or totally unresponsive. FaceID works, swipe to unlock works sometimes, flashlight and camera shortcuts never work, passcode input is hit or miss. When I plug the phone in everything works again with the case on.

I just tried that and what I noticed was that an animation was playing at the bottom of the screen “swipe up to unlock” whenever I saw that and tried to hit the flashlight it didn’t work, but whenever I waited for the animation to stop or no animations happening it worked - furthers my theory that the animations and other processes are slowing it down
Another thing I noticed is when I swipe through emojis, if the animation of the swipe is still going on I can’t switch out of my emojis like I used to.

If it was a hardware issue it wouldn’t work with a power source plugged in. And it wouldn’t only be on a certain state of the software, for example it’s only the Lock Screen that’s affected, but after that nothing else? Doesn’t make sense. It’s the software

Yep with case and lighting cable connected. Somehow all of a sudden works perfectly ! Without power cable. Boom back to garbage again

I'm hoping you're right, but mine isn't the same. When that animation goes away (but remains locked), nothing changes for me.
