QUESTION everyone!!! Did you start your phone as a new phone? Or did you do an iCloud backup? Also, can anyone confirm if the issue persists on the mini if it’s started as a new phone in general? Could it be a backup issue only?
Tried as new. No improvement

I set my phone up as new, rather than backup & I am experiencing the Lock Screen touch problem (I am using the phone with an Apple Leather case & a Belkin Ultraglass protector).

I just chatted with apple support. The rep told me that they had never heard about this. See my screenshot. I sent links forms and google searches. They told me to replace my phone. Nope. Not doing that. View attachment 1671030
According to what you just posted, the support rep suggestion replacing the third party cases, not the phone. And it is possible that specific rep has not seen or logged complaints related this problem.

Started as the new one, and the problem still occurs

Still have the issue, and have a apple store appointment today to investigate. will let yall know what happens.

Also did clean install and no backup when I got my iPhone Friday. I have an Apple leather case. I received the screen protector a day later. So I knew about the problem but installed it anyway. I noticed the issue, but it is not a big problem for me. Only difficult to turn on the torch, no problems to swipe or typing on the lock screen. I have an Apple leather case and a Opamoo screen protector. A friend of mine has the same combination and also noticed it, only problems with the torch button.

A waste of time to go to the apple store about this problem. More than likely, they won’t know about it nor will they be able to remedy the problem.

If they give you another mini, it will have the same problem. Try not using a case.
yea i already know, either no case or no screen protector will make everything work, but i want them to see first hand whats going on since theres little to no word from apple yet. at least itll be logged in my active case so they have a reference for the issues we are all experiencing

Agree. Apple needs to be aware of the potential bottom line. They have analytics regarding the sale of these units and if they see 0 returns, they might use those anylitics to justify not promptly investigating the "minor" issue rumored on blogs and their response page. If they had tons of Minis going back their eyebrows would be forced to be raised. Since you were aware of the issue and willing to go this extra mile, it still helps.

I must have gotten lucky- I have a screen protector and a thin case on my mini and have had no issues swiping to unlock or with any of the touch sensitivity.
Also no issues with my 12 Mini. Using a tempered glass screen protector with a Spigen clear TPU case.
What screen protectors (brand, model, etc.) are you both using? Do the cases leave any metal part of the phone exposed that you may be touching when holding the phone?

Mine is a Super Shieldz privacy screen protector (tempered glass). And my case is just a clear TPU generic case- no metal, plastic, or leather. No metal parts of the phone exposed, the lip around the edge just covers the metal, going to the edge of the screen itself (but not covering any portion of the screen). There is actually a tiny little 1mm or so gap between the edge of my screen protector and the beginning of the lip from the case- maybe that is why mine is working OK?

Caseology tempered glass screen protector. I am not touching any metal part of the phone.

Hi All,

Just finished an Apple support chat, just been told it's an emerging problem that they are aware of and working on a software update, if I am not happy to wait I am entitled to return the device, also get a replacement if I want.
It's 21.22 pm in the UK, so Apple UK is closed. I was chatting to an Apple support in the US.
She wasn't aware that I was based in the UK when she said to pop into my local store and get a replacement, I explained we are in lockdown in the UK.
Click and collect services only. I have been given a CASE ID to speak to Apple UK when they open tomorrow.

Since you have extended holiday return with the mini, are you going to wait for Apple to resolve?

Thanks - I hadn't heard much about that one, so I wonder if it's thinner than the Belkin/ESR ones that everyone else is using. I've got a gap between the ESR one and whatever cases I'm using (Tech21, Apple Leather, Spigen Liquid Crystal) so I think there may be something to the actual screen protector you have.
