I'm having the same issue when combining both a screen protector and case. It has persisted since day one of receiving my iPhone 12 Mini. Issue resolves upon removing the case or grounding to the metal camera lens ring. I am using an Axessorize case and a glass screen protector.

I just wanted to say that Apple Support (live chat through their official app) was completely useless. They had no record of the issue and actually recommended I return the phone. They had no insight into engineering or software, etc. And provided absolutely no help whatsoever.

I would suggest not wasting your time with Apple Support (though I did forward them the Macrumors and Engadget articles) and instead use the Apple Feedback form linked on the very first post of this thread. I have a feeling it is more likely to work its way up to the proper department. Hoping for an official acknowledgement from Apple and a software fix soon, as I much prefer the formfactor of the iPhone 12 Mini over the larger iPhone 12.

You need to call Apple and make sure you get a Case ID assigned to you. The person that responded to you on the app didn’t know what they were talking about.

Do you think getting Case ID is necessary for me if my plan is to wait for the update until mid December and if there’s no fix then to return the device to Apple? I’ve bought the mini directly from them and from what I have checked I can return it until 8 of Jan

I was told by Executive Relations yesterday, that in the event there is a hardware recall, Apple will use Case ID to determine eligibility. Even if you are planning on returning in December, fie a report any way.

QUESTION everyone!!! Did you start your phone as a new phone? Or did you do an iCloud backup? Also, can anyone confirm if the issue persists on the mini if it’s started as a new phone in general? Could it be a backup issue only?
Not having any problems at all, even with Casekoo clear case and Yootech screen protector on. I started my phone off of a direct backup (wireless transfer of data from one phone to another and not the iCloud backup).

Mine is a Super Shieldz privacy screen protector (tempered glass). And my case is just a clear TPU generic case- no metal, plastic, or leather. No metal parts of the phone exposed, the lip around the edge just covers the metal, going to the edge of the screen itself (but not covering any portion of the screen). There is actually a tiny little 1mm or so gap between the edge of my screen protector and the beginning of the lip from the case- maybe that is why mine is working OK?
Mine is identical to your description. But Casekoo clear TPU case. I’ve got maybe a little larger gap between the edge of my screen protector and the lip of the case.

Glad to see at least two other people with phones not having a problem but this makes me worried for our fellow forum members that maybe this is some odd hardware issue after all.

Any recommendations on screen protectors that are .15mm or thinner?
I’m not having any of these issues with my screen protector and my case combo. The screen protector is by Yootech at Amazon and it was $5.99 for a package of 4. I was worried at that price the quality would be bad but they’re fine. They say the glass is .33 mm. The glass feels thin to me. I’ve definitely used thicker glass from more premium names.

Are you positive no part of the case is exposed and your fingers may be touching the exposed part of the phone?

funny thing is i tried this with a case that i opened up so i could touch the bottom charging port area with my hand and it still would not work with Apple's belkin screen protector

Not sure if anyone else has this problem or has pointed it out but I've noticed that the screen is similarly unresponsive with the notification pulldown even once unlocked.

I feel like sometimes I have difficulty getting the "slide to answer" widget to work, but maybe I'm just not hitting my target exactly.

Same with the flashlight and camera shortcuts...though again I feel like those targets are just smaller than I realize and I'm not hitting them exactly. I probably wouldn't have thought anything about it without the FUD.

If you're within the 1yr warranty (or longer if you have AC+) wouldn't you automatically be eligible if there's a recall?

Also, are you using one hand and your thumb or using 2 hands and your index finger? I can generally unlock with one hand using my thumb with FaceID but having to punch in my code if I'm wearing a mask or answering a call from Lock Screen doesn't work so well with my thumb.

I just got a call back again from Executive Relations. She said that she is going to check with the special team that is handling this case with the engineers and make sure they don’t need any additional information or trouble shooting. She did say the engineers are actively working on this and to expect an update any time (although she didn’t provide a time line). She said any time there is a software update, make a sure and install it. She will be calling back to keep me informed of what is going on.

Thanks for the up-to-date info. I'm waiting to see the outcome on this issue before I pull the trigger on buying a Mini.

I use tapback to get instant access to Notifications.
I mean interacting with the notification screen whilst the phone is unlocked, not pulling the notification screen down.

If I unlock the phone and drag down from the top of the screen to display notifications, I experience the same problems everyone describes with touch screen responsiveness when I try to interact with the notifications, e.g. my thumbs do not work.
