Hi folks, I have the same problem when something cover it's back then screen motion is really terrible I can't even unlock it or use e.g. a flashlight / camera icon. If the phone is connected to charger then the problem does not exist.

My setup:
Case SPIGEN SLIM ARMOR
PanzerGlass Mini CF AG

Video 1: without case and with glass the error appears when I put phone e.g. on the table (the Iphone back has to be completely covered by something)

Video 2: with case and with glass the error appears all the time

Video 3: with case and with glass the error DOES NOT APPEAR when the phone is charging

exactly the same problem I am also facing right now.

My issue occurred with the 2D iCarez screen protector with the iPhone mini Apple leather case. I couldn’t swipe up easily unless I did it slowly and from the very bottom of the phone. I took off the screen protector and it works fine now. I am sending the iCarez protectors back to Amazon and have the Floveme protectors coming today.

Originally I thought it was because of the 2D protectors but after seeing this thread, it’s a larger issue.

So is it worth returning/exchanging my mini and seeing if my next one doesn’t have this issue? I’ve always used my Apple devices with a case and a screen protector and I don’t want to stop now.

I’m wondering if there are just some defective devices out there.

it always works with the tip of my thumb and the pointer finger for example.
This is the answer for me! Tapping the lock screen torch or camera 'normally' with the broad finger surface never works, but finger or thumb tips always work. BTW I love that new switch sound and feel - when it does work.

Swiping up has never been a problem with my BodyGuardz Stack case and Nano Xtreme screen protector.

Case on.. the only reason I thought it’s the screen protector cause I screwed up on installation forgetting to peel the back first (spigen ezfit) so I had to free hand install it. Installed the second one and it seems to swipe from lock screen at least 90% of the time now.
For me, works perfectly without MagSafe case. Take several tries just to swipe up to open, or enter passcode, or access camera or torch.

Screen motion is only bad on the Lock Screen for me. If I swipe slow or input passcode slower than normal, it seems to work much better.
so entering PIN or pressing the flashlight button still doesn’t work as expected?

Yeah, for recap:

1) The iphone back completely covered by something e.g. a table. The Lock Screen swipe up works better (14.3) without case but with glass, still I have the problem with flashlight / camera
2) With case and with glass it's really hard to swipe up even impossible to use flashlight / camera
3) With case and with glass the error DOES NOT APPEAR when the phone is charging

Yes that’s pretty much the same behavior as with 14.2. So either Apple still has to address this or it is indeed a hardware problem. I think it might be helpful when MacRumors reaches out to Apple for a statement on this...

Hopefully, MacRumors will do an article and ask Apple to comment. I sent a suggestion to MR about an article and noted this thread.

GUYS GUYS GUYS, I have 100% figured out the issue. This is a sad TRUTH to the issue. This is a hardware issue, which I don’t know for sure if can be fixed with software updates! Everyone that has this problem. The flashlight is the perfect test. It either works with your thumb perfectly on and off flawlessly or doesn’t. The reason it works with the case off is because for whatever reason, every single Case that goes on the iPhone 12 mini or the iPhone 12 mini power button doesn’t have the proper support to stay UN-PRESSED, while the cases’ push button sits next to power button. The side power button on right hand side is being pressed a small amount with every single case!

WATCH, put your finger and push against case only where side power button is and push case away from power side button and watch how easy the flashlight works with your thicker thumb, thinner thumb whatever. It’s the POWER button that’s being pressed lightly by all cases causing this issue!!!

APPLE THIS IS 100% confirmed. TIME FOR RECALL!!!!!
Hi, Wouldn’t that be a problem with the cases rather the phone? Cases are built to fit a phone. If they don’t fit right how is that a phone problem?

Everything worked flawlessly with my iPhone 12 mini with MacSafe transparent case. Until this morning when I received my MagSafe Leather case and Belkin privacy glass screenprotector and BOOM: experiencing all the problems as menthioned in this thread :) Hopefully Apple will address this problem soon.

So I also just noticed that with the battery charged to 100%, the phone acts like the lightning cable is constantly disconnecting and reconnecting. Haven’t yet removed the case to see if it’s related. Also I’ve noticed this phone seems to get very hot very easily under moderate usage. Very disappointing that the quality control seems to be nonexistent with this model - these are things Apple should have noticed and corrected before launching a new device.

I haven’t experienced the phone getting very hot as of yet. What were you doing when that occurred?

I noticed it immediately after transferring my data from my old phone and it was downloading my apps and then again when I first plugged it in last night to charge and was sifting through this forum.

The lightning connection behavior appears not to be case related, as it persists with the case off.

That is pretty much standard procedure for a new phone after a set up etc. It shouldn’t happen on a regular basis. I thought you were speaking of something different.

Anyone got an open bottom case they can try with a screen protector. Keep your (pinky) finger touching the frame at the bottom to ground it ,and try this unlocking / camera. ?

Might be worth opening a new thread for this if it’s a separate issue. Guess it may help people experiencing the same issue , and keep this on topic and make it easier for others / techs (if apple read this) to read though and grasp how widespread it is.

Just for "fun", take a picture after unlocking the camera from the lock screen and try to pinch zoom 😄.
