Any ideas how to open the phone when a mask has to be worn? I tried pulling the case away from the phone a little while trying to enter pass and the word “Ok” kept popping up on the right side and I couldn’t get it.

edited to add: I just tried inputting using my opposite hand finger and the pass entered correctly. Trying with dominate thumb doesn’t work.

Tried using dominate hand forefinger and could enter passcode. Seems using the thumb to swipe or enter pass doesn’t readily work.

I’m having this problem too. For now I’m leaving the screen protector and case on, and as a workaround, I touch my index finger to the camera bump when I want to unlock it. I’m right handed though so it’s a little bit easier to do i imagine. It’s annoying but it works for now

Initially experienced the lock screen touch problem yesterday too. Fitted a Belkin Ultraglass screen Protector to my 12 Mini straight out the box (before setting up the phone) & also put the phone in my new Apple leather case. Immediately noticed the delayed response when swiping up on the Lock Screen. Thought the problem might be related to the fact that my leather case is not 'open' at the rear of the case (unlike the 'open' case I had been using on my X). I was disappointed, but a few hours later, got round to updating from iOS 14.1 to 14.2 & found that once updated to 14.2, the problem was resolved (now able to successfully swipe up, first time, each time).

For me, I’m not having any of these problems once the phone is unlocked. Only on the lock screen it’s buggy and not detecting touch. Seems like this is a software bug and something to do with touch sensitivity on the lock screen and the Notification Center.

Good morning
I have the mini with the magsafe leather case and good glass screen protector. With the case on the lock screen is useless. Can’t answer calls or use the torch/camera button. I also realize with the MagSafe wireless charger connected all night, my phone was only able to charge up to 81%. Very interesting things occurring here

Can anyone else confirm that touching the camera rings while unlocking the phone works for them as well? Might be able to help some people get by before a fix is released

Hi

Had my iPhone mini 12 less than 24hrs.

Just now before posting to catch up on this thread my touch screen wouldn’t work basically swiping from the button upwards to unlock the screen.
Was unresponsive for 30seconds or so, eventually it sorted it self out.
Like some have reported might be a bug.

Thanks Phil

My mini has the same issue as the other’s minis here. Very low touch responsiveness on the lock screen when I use a case (I’m using an apple leather case and esr screen protector). No issues when not using a case. Hopefully this is a bug that can be fixed after software update.

I am on 14.2. I did a phone to phone set up and still have the problem.

Most of us having the issue are on 14.2 and a few have tried the 14.3 beta without success.

Correct. It does seem to be some sort of software state triggered by contact, so it could still be happening due to a hardware issue, but the software isn’t doing what it’s supposed to in response to the hardware “trigger”. Like less touch sensitivity when the phone isn’t unlocked.

But it doesn’t sound like Apple has fixed this in 14.3 either.

I have a similar issue. Initially, I thought its the screen protector issue and the Apple store changed it as well. Then I realised it is happening only when the case is on. I am currently using with the case on. Hope the issue will be fixed.

Currently I am using the tip of my thumb to use it, it works absolutely fine. But, that is not a permanent fix. Its hard to use it that way always.

Lock Screen works fine when charging.
Yeah some people have reported that as well, though a few have said it didn’t change for them.
I just sent this thread to Apple chat support. Everyone please do the same so we could potentially get a quicker fix.

I've done the same, and sent to their feedback link, as well as let MacRumors "tip" email know about it. A user in the Apple support forum said he/she noticed it before leaving the store and they were able to test multiple cases without success, and other users getting the Mini began noticing the same.

The problem is it's subtle at first and you might not notice it until you've used it for a few hours and thought, "ok this keeps happening, what's up with this?". Or, you might not start with a case right out of the gate... I fully expect this thread to grow quite a bit over the next couple of days.

I think they'll fix it in the next beta since this is a brand new problem they didn't anticipate. It's just one of these things since this is the first time they did a phone in such a small size but using the "full screen" design. I think they will just release a 14.2.1 bug fix. We just need to get the word out.

That’s what I already said you all of you guys earlier!!
Unfortunately this happens once these threads start to grow - people either don't read the entire thread (understandably once it gets large) or skim too quickly. :)
