Don’t return. It will be fixed with an update. So, what do we do everyone? Return our phones? (as Apple advised me to do, but the chat advisor didn’t really know about the issue being widespread)
I have the Belkin Ultraglass screen protector and the official Apple Magsafe cover, and I have the issue as shown in the video posted before. However, when connected to an outlet or while touching the lightning connector with one finger, the Home Screen is perfectly responsive. Weird indeed... seems grounding-related.Can anyone verify if it works with a screen protector and an original MagSafe cover?
Small update: I just removed the Belkin screen protector (only keeping the magsafe cover), and everything works smoothly, the Home Screen is 100% responsive. So the screen protector must be the culprit (or just the combination with the cover).I have the Belkin Ultraglass screen protector and the official Apple Magsafe cover, and I have the issue as shown in the video posted before. Personally, I'd prefer to keep the cover and go without the screen protector, as the front is protected with Ceramic Shield, while the back is just glass and thus must be more vulnerable. My first MacRumors forum post is unfortunately going to be a "me too" for this issue. My iPhone X that this Mini replaced worked with all combinations of screen protectors including matte, tempered glass, etc and all cases. I just made it home after buying my third case for the Mini. Until there is a fix, I'd rather go caseless but keep the screen protector On.
I've found that if I use a finger or even just a lighter touch with the tip of my thumb it responds fine, so for now I'm leaving my leather case and screen protector on and just working around it as best I can in the hopes that they push out a software update that remedies it. If not I'll exchange it for a standard 12 at the end of my 14-day return period. My first MacRumors forum post is unfortunately going to be a "me too" for this issue. I think I will be doing the exact same thing. I know that I’m not prepared to compromise as to either a screen protector or a case...I've found that if I use a finger or even just a lighter touch with the tip of my thumb it responds fine, so for now I'm leaving my leather case and screen protector on and just working around it as best I can in the hopes that they push out a software update that remedies it. I always use a matte screen protector to get rid of glare, finger prints and provide a satin feel when swiping. Also, I got the white Mini so I get to enjoy the naked look for a whilePersonally, I'd prefer to keep the cover and go without the screen protector, as the front is protected with Ceramic Shield, while the back is just glass and thus must be more vulnerable.
Please contact Apple about this problem, so they can start work on a fix.It works fine without a case. With the case on, I have to use the tip of my thumb and it works perfectly. I think this could be fixed with a software update.
It also affects phone call swiping and using the keypad during a call etc.I always use a matte screen protector to get rid of glare, finger prints and provide a satin feel when swiping. Also, I got the white Mini so I get to enjoy the naked look for a while. If the wait for a fix is too long, I might just dremel a section on the edge of one of my cheap cases where my index finger rests when performing an unlock.
Remove the case and it will work as it should. To keep the back of the phone from scratching, you can put Blue Painter’s tape on the phone to protect and the phone will work as it should. Not the best I know but, not much can be done outside of that, until Apple fixes the problem.I’ve missed some calls today because of slide to unlock not working either. I reset my phone and restored from iCloud rather than from my old phone this time around. It didn’t work for me so I dunno. I hope someone (Apple) figures it out soon.
You can touch the camera lens rings when unlocking instead. It’s the only part of the metal chassis of the phone that’s easily accessibleI always use a matte screen protector to get rid of glare, finger prints and provide a satin feel when swiping.
