They should increase the price to $2399.00 and reduce the battery capacity and then sales should pick up again. And if they remove all connection, not the headphone jack but also power jack so there's no physical connections at all and sales will jump through the roof. I have no idea what started out a music player had a headphone jack in the first place.

I’d pay the same I paid for my 12 pro if they took out a mini with good battery life, the telephoto lens instead of the ultra wide (if they can’t fit all 3), and hopefully touchID.

I’ve realised that for any sort of real work or gaming, I’m almost always using the Mac or iPad. So I’d love to have a small, light phone with a good camera to hopefully travel with soon.

I have one. Works very well if you prefer practicality to a fashion statement :) (this is Europe - they're very common over here)
Never will I drive another vehicle unless FCEVs come in wagon format and can match the range of a TDI or a break through in BEVs can manage the same without all the extra weight chewing through tires. Much like I have zero interest in larger phones that are unwieldy and heavy like a brick which is exactly what the other iPhones feel like these days.

I came to the 12-mini from a bog-standard 8, and I have nothing but accolades for the daily battery life/span/force/reserve . . . never have I been left wanting.

ymmv; iwyd/k; etc.; et al.

You’re coming from a phone released in 2017 that already had sub-par battery life. It stands to reason that one of Apple’s latest phone’s is going to have better battery life than that.

And I’m glad you find the battery life great. For those of us who use our phones for work daily making calls I regret to inform you that the battery life of the mini stinks.

Two pages in and no one mentioned the pandemic that kept everyone home? The Mini is designed for people to easily hold onto and comfortably fit in pockets. Neither of these two benefits mattered during a pandemic.
This is why I returned my mini and went 12 Pro.....

A smaller iPhone was desirable when I was wearing linen or light wool slacks in most days in the office. However, at home in denim the size/weight took a backseat to something that would be in my hands much more often than in a front pocket at the officer. Now with returning back to the office, I will probably live to regret that choice.

Size-wise, I'm happy with my 11 Pro. The non-Pro iPhone 11 and the iPhone 12 (Pro and non-Pro), even though only slightly larger, are uncomfortable. I will likely upgrade to an iPhone 13 mini this fall. The 6.1" form factor is just over my too-big threshold.

I do think the appeal of the smaller phones (The SEs) was at least somewhat bolstered by the lower price point of them as well. And I do get that the phone itself isn't any different than the 12 internally except for the battery (which... could be a big deal depending on how much one already struggles with all day battery life). Maybe Apple was banking on the SE crowd jumping up to small version of the flagship, even though the SE crowd also wanted the price to performance ratio that the SE gave.

It's a shame but I've heard the sentiment across a couple different people who were considering the phone. If they could've somehow priced it at $499 without sacrificing TOO much of the specs, I think it would've killed.
Honestly, make it with just one good camera so the rest of the space could be filled with battery and price it a bit cheaper it probably would have sold like hotcakes. I really don't get this need for multiple camera's on a smartphone. Even though I have the 12Pro now, I still never even think about using different camera's. I just open it, point it at what I want and snap the pic. I rarely if ever even zoom, most I'll do is tap the screen to focus. I would be willing to be the vast majority of other users only ever do that too. Single camera leaves a good chunk of more space for battery, no need for LiDar either.

The phone many cried out for but nobody bought
A LOT of people bought them, just not as many as did other models. I don't think anyone ever expected they'd outsell other models.

If they get rid of it, though, they'll be losing customers. I hope they aren't that stupid, but one never can be sure with Apple.

Are you sure about that?
  • Less ram
  • Less lenses
  • No ProRAW
  • No LIDAR
  • Yellower screen
Too many compromises so I was forced to get a Pro. All I want is an iPhone and iPad Mini Pro.

Completely. Mini is also a bad name, guys aren’t going to buy things titled “mini.” Mini Cooper, anyone? The name just implies lesser than.
So you never bought your wife/GF a mini skirt before?
You never wanted, or thought that, a mini-gat (Gatling gun) was cool?
- Schwarzenegger did in T2, Cyberdyne systems scene.
- Jesse ‘The Body’ Ventura did as well in Predator,

male smokers still go for mini torches, mini razor for them lines to hookup you cut to the next level.

Mini in regards to something with many other flagship devices/options though, seems to kinda imply it isn’t as good, it’s a “mini” (crippled) version of any iPhone that isn’t mini.

not a crippled version.
conversation of video to HDR or processing apps etc is JUST as fast as the 12 / 12 Pro and 12 Max - they ALL use the same CPU and RAM. Only the screensize, 1 less sensor (lens count will different due to 1 less camera sensor of course), and battery size and Lidar are THE ONLY differences.

People keep same it’s crippled or inferior - because THAT’s all they got from non-Sony compact/mini phones the last 10yrs. Apple nor Sony has played that game.

Well Apple finally tried it for the very vocal minority who demanded a small phone. However as expected the market has spoken. Most people just don't want small phones anymore. We can put that conversation to rest for good now.

heh That's what my SO says ;) I suggested a charging cable, but, well...

She recently needed an upgrade (increased storage space), and wanted a lighter phone. Tried the 12-mini . . . hated the battery, and really missed the extra camera(s) functionality, so swapped that for the 12-pro.

She burned-through the 12-pro battery about as fast as she did her old 11-pro.

Traded all that in, and got an AAPL-Certified 11-pro 512, and a Series 6 watch for less $

Still consumes her battery like a kid does a 2oz bag of Fritos, but she feels better for saving some dosh :)

Ended production due to low demand. Pretty sure that means no market.

Low /= no.
LOW does not mean NO (or an absolute NOTHING).

Ended production doesn’t necessarily mean anything about demand. It could simply mean Apple doesn‘t see the 12 mini surviving in a sea where the:
iphone SE 2020 is still on sale (even with lower storage choices in 2021),
iPhone Xr with the same reason as above,
iPhone 12 having also lower storage options, cheaper price.

- considering those I’ve mentioned, it makes perfect sense for Apple to …
assess current sales vs targets (locally to USA and globally),
current in market volume of remaining iPhone 12 mini’s yet to be sold/shipped,
and Apple to release a 13 mini at probably same as current iPhone 12 mini price?

Missteps that Apple made with the iPhone mini: OLED screen instead of Liquid Retina, MagSafe/Qi charging capability + magnet, glass back instead of aluminum. Those things led to a higher price and higher weight on the unit. That said, I sure hope they make a 13 mini because my wife and I would like to upgrade to new iPhones that are smaller. Shame there probably won’t be an iPhone 14 mini.
