I feel like the use case for the mini is that it is for people who prefer to have their phones mostly in their pockets. That’s a hard sell at 800€.

if you get this you want the cameras and good battery in a phone that is capable of Running the most up to date iOS versions for a while. The f do I need a Chip capable of editing 4k video in this tiny phone for!?

BS. I know at least seven people who were thrilled about the Mini and bought one on launch day, and it’s not like I live in some weird commune of tiny handed people.

I have had the Plus/Max variant of the iPhone ever since they started making them. And for whatever reason I was so drawn to the Mini this year. I can say it has been my favorite iPhone ever, I really hope they don't cancel them! Such a joy to hold and it has really helped me cut my screen time down and not be so tied to my phone.
I agree with all of this.

If there were only two iPhones offered, I would say 5% sales in the first have of January isn't good at all. However, I think 5% for the first half of January isn't a death sentence for the mini.

Based on all the excitement when it was announced, I'm surprised the mini isn't selling better. I wonder if Apple will keep the mini line going?

I'm 54 and the older I get the more I feel I need a bigger phone or phablet size. My eyes are ok but it seems a lot of app makers, etc. still don't make text or response areas big enough.
I haven't had any problems reading on the mini. And that is without making the text bigger. Have you tried enabling the larger text option on the mini?

For anyone looking at the numbers objectively, you'd be nuts to bet on a small iPhone again for the next major refresh.

Not every single phone Apple makes has to sell in equal proportion. With the phone market as mature as it is, Apple is at the point where they're going to have to meet some specific niches even if it doesn't sell just as many as their top model. That said, I think the people who are more likely to buy the Mini are more likely to buy it throughout the year instead of right at the beginning. Curious to see how the Mini does in comparison throughout the year.

Bigger is better and big is just best 🙂
I don't think that is true for a lot of people. Some of us don't need to live on our phone, much less want to make the phone our main computer. I bought a M1 and a iPad Pro because I don't want to try and
use my small phone as a computer replacement. It would be impractical.

In my opinion, the real problem for many in our society today is phone addition. Too many people can't seem to put down their phone and interact with real life. Everything is social media driven and like zombies, people slowly walk around with their face tilted down and fixated on their phone. For the zombie addicts, a big phone would be deemed necessary. Thankfully, not everyone is a zombie addict.

That is true for many people. I use a phone as a phone. I have a M1 and a iPad Pro for larger tasks.

I don't want to carry a phablet in my pocket.
But even for people who use a phone just as a phone wouldn’t an iPhone se make more sense? Or even a 100$ LG. Why spend 700 on a call and text device. I feel like people who wanted a phone just for phone stuff spoke with their wallets and purchased an SE.

Dump the Mini and regular phone and replace with a cheaper SE series that has everything the same as the Pro/Pro Max except 2 camera, LCD display, touch ID and is 128GB only.

SE $599/Pro $899/Pro Max $1099

Pro and Pro Max gets touch ID and Face ID, 120hz display. Same camera. Only size and battery size are the differences. Starts at 256GB.

I had the SE 2020 before I got the mini. The SE was ok. It was bigger than I wanted and I really didn't care for the rounded corners and curved screen.

There’s absolutely no difference between being on your phone all day and being in your iPad all day. Two drugs different flavours. Now who’s the real zombie addict. Person A, typical macrumours tech snob, who owns a small phone, IPad, MacBook, Apple Watch, XDR pro display, or person b who only owns a phone?

Love my mini. I hope this doesn’t make Apple give up on this size.

I pretty much am on my phone all day and I think the size is fine for that.

I do own multiple Apple devices for specific tasks. And as much as I enjoy Apple devices, I don't live on them every moment of the day like many other do.

You did bring up a valid point. And my zombie addict comment applies to those who are doing the same thing with their iPads etc., instead of interacting with others and life in a more direct manner.
