Should they have delayed the launch for an edge case that applies to less than 10% (in being generous here) of people that will be resolved before the holidays? Really?

No, I wouldn't expect them to delay the phone, just be open and say dual SIM / 5G will not work out of the box, and if it's the case, that a later software update will enable it. At least people would be changing their plans in full knowlegde of the situation

For all those saying this is an Apple issue, it’s not, it’s a Qualcomm issue - same issue appears on other devices with the same chip dual sim capability

This limitation is with the X55 platform.
OnePlus Phones have had limited Dual SIM capability that is due to be fixed in a software update.

But why not wait and see if it’s a software update later in 2020? Not that you even have to wait until 2021 according to the article. That’s like two months at most. You lived without 5G all your life, surely two months wouldn’t ruin everything?

And if they don't fix it with a software update? Or enable it only on one SIM? Then what?

This should have been fully disclosed, right on the product page.

No need to delay. But fully disclose? Absolutely.

I’m not against full disclosure, but this thread reads like a ton of people in hysterics about something that will be addressed before the vast majority of people even purchase their phones. And I don’t get what the issue is, you’re worst case scenario is you get the 4G speeds like you do today.

This of course is ignoring the sham that 5G actually delivers today...

It's not a sham for everyone. In my office, I go from 2 bars to 5 with only low-band 5G, and from 10 MBPS to 80+. It's a welcome change, even if not wide-band 5G. Dual SIM is a pretty big feature in enterprise, so this is a pretty sad change if not resolved soon.

I don't understand all the complaining. Apple could have just released the phone without dual sim support at all, or had two versions of the phone, one with dual sim, and one with 5G.

It’s waiting on a software update, per several tech sites. It will be functional within a few weeks.

It also sounds like you just so happened to win the 5G lottery.

This will be irrelevant for some time. Most users won't care so they probably weren't in a rush to add it. It will be added eventually, I hope.

This wouldn't have mattered to me on any kind of a functional level, but it does further reinforce fears/skepticism regarding this being the first Apple 5G phone (and therefore coming along with certain first generation quirks that I might as well save the extra money and avoid for now).

If only that Refurbished White 256GB iPhone XR would show back up in the Apple Certified Refurbished iPhone section of the Apple Online Store already! This is the year I get a minor upgrade to my 7 Plus and then use the money I save by not buying an iPhone 12 to start saving for the more substantial upgrade that I'm to do one to two years from now.

I use dual-sim but not full time. I have AT&T currently as my primary carrier, and Google FI on eSim (for Travel). I guess I can disable FI when I'm not traveling overseas... a bit of a pain, but I guess I can live with it. I know the Google Pixel 5 has the same annoying limitation.

I'm honestly more concerned about the lack of 5G roaming abilities which is more of a carrier-side issue presumably.

Do you even realize how much a Quality of Life improvement it is to not to have to carry 2 phones around with you?

It isn’t that Dual SIM doesn’t work, it’s that it makes one of the reasons to upgrade to the 12 totally negated.

Yes, crippling the functions of your device by virtue of using your new phone the exact same way you’re using your current phone is, absolutely, a deal breaker.
It depends if one wants to label this a deal breaker or not. To me it's not a deal breaker. So I'm on LTE a few days longer, to me...big deal.

I did indeed; but, the fact remains today the phone does not do what is claimed; I am sure whilst the features that the phone is being sold on, are not working Apple will reduce the price?

Always the same with Apple keynotes; you have to pay attention to what they don't say, e.g. taking 8 months for ECG function to be available on the Apple watch here in the UK, despite it being one of the central features of the keynote.
The ECG feature required regulatory approval.

I agree 100%. I can’t understand why demand is supposed to be so high.

Maybe it’s people who just want to give themselves something nice during all of this COVID mess... at least that was m reason.

I think the 12 just sucks. I was 100% seton upgrading and even stuck to it when they announced no 120hz, not even 90hz, same big notch, no USB-C and so on.
But not being able to use 5G at all because I don’t want to carry a separate work phone is too much.

Im not getting this phone.

Apple won’t care, they will still sell enough but I am much happier this way.

Really disappointing year though, I wanted to get the new Watch and the new iPhone, now I’m getting nothing.

Maybe I am getting an ARM Mac now, at least that will hopefully feel like a real upgrade.
Demand will be huge, not because of the features, but because of the new (old iPhone 5) look. Everyone with a iPhone other than 12 will obviously, at a glance, own an older phone. Similarly with 12 vs 12 Pro and the colours (Apple aren't dumb). Prestige is a HUGE motivator. Don't underestimate it. People are attracted to winners (even if they pretend they aren't), and winners can afford the best stuff.

I’ll see if they get it to work properly and if they do I might buy the 12 than.
But since the new phone is only 11 month away now and might only be 8 Monate away when they release the update I might as well wait.
If iPhone 13 has a smaller notch or at least 90hz display I will have to get it anyways.

As a POWER USER 😂 I use my personal and work sim on my phone as I don't want to log around two separate phones. I live in NYC and have excellent 5G coverage. So of course this is unfortunate. This will be especially disappointing for those who have old iPhones that are hanging by a thread and are in actual need of upgrading this cycle. Paying for a 5G phone that will essentially be a 4G phone? Not okay. So, we have a right to be upset at this. Just because its a "non-issue" for you, it doesn't mean the same applies to the next person.

So you cancelled your order without waiting to see if Apple will roll out a "hot fix" update to remedy this?

Yea I really wasn’t impressed with the 12 anyways because of the lack of 90/100/120hz display and realized I only bought it because I wanted to buy something new.

i rationalized it with 5G but now since that won‘t work unwillkürlich wait.

it cool to skip some generations of iPgone because it makes it much more special and noticeable when you finally upgrade. 3 years is best at this point.

Before you didn’t want it due to a delay of 5G, and now you just want to wait for the 13, knowing you will be will be without 5G for less than 66 days from release? SMH So before you’re willing to buy as dual sim means everything and 5G is critical. But now just wait another eleven months for an iPhone 13. Okay. Logical. Haha
