I have the habit of expecting to get what I am paying for, otherwise this whole marketing strategy built on 5G is a scam.
And you are, tha hardware is there,, it's only a question f a sw update, which will come later this yer. IMHO taking both the apple vs Qualcomm thing and covid-19, and the atm rather sparse deployment of 5G (well at least outside major US metro areas), I think we should give apple a pass on a sw that temporarily hinders dual sim 5G. Is it annoying to a small group, definitely is is however not catastrophic as you will still have LTE-A, and again after a short wait (probably before 5G coverage expands outside the areas mentioned) full 5G dual sim functionality will be there.

So it's the first gen of Qualcomm's single chip 5G dual sim solution in the first generation of IPhones to support 5G.
Yes. And like you say in another post, it was a pretty short timeframe for Apple/Qualcomm to pull this off.

btw it sounds like it’s a Qualcomm issue, other phones that use their X55 have the same limitation. 5G is barely past bleeding edge, things will smooth out.

According to reviewers, when both SIMs are 5G, the primary one remains 5G.

I would be more happy not having to pay premium for a half-baked functionality.

I think you'll find that you don't need to rush anywhere; the SIM's they have been issuing from the main providers can work on 5G already, if the phone is capable and has been like that for more than a year.
i am with Virgin Mobile and they were late to the party with offering 4G (2016),so i can see it being quite a while before they offer 5G,lol.The last time they issued me with a new sim card was at least a couple of years ago.

What do you mean? EE has 5G all over the main UK cities now.
Not in Brighton yet they don't (coming soon).Anyway,i am with Virgin Mobile. They use EE's network but they won't roll out 5G at the same time.Virgin didn't roll out 4G until 2016.

This is lame for me. I live in Orange County and have T-Mobile and ATT Sims for work and personal. Having dual sims was a life changer so I could stop carrying 2 phones. T-Mobile gets 200 mbps down on 5G here vs 46 down on ATT’s “5ge” LTE BS. T-Mobile LTE gets about 70 down on LTE. The slow version of 5G coverage we have is still noticeably faster. I’m pretty disappointed. I might just return the phone 12 Pro and wait for the max in a month and then see if there’s mention of a fix coming in 2020.

So you would rather return the phone, than run the dual sims on 4g until a fix is available? Which could be as in a short a time as ios 14.2.

If anyone is still watching this thread this is how it looks on one line when both are switched on. iOS 14.2 12 pro max ATT. The 5G options are greyed out. If I switch off either line, the other can then do 5G

I can confirm this issue. Got my 12 Pro Max, got my dual SIM’s setup and 5G is unavailable

Apple Cripple Hammer. Totally unprofessional and misleading to release a 5G phone that should be a 5G** phone with warnings. I’m gonna return it and use my XS Max for another year.

Seems like an extreme move considering an update is going to fix it.

Spoke to Apple, they said the issue is already resolved in China. That the fix is coming to other countries shortly via update. Please refer to this updated support article, you can see the note about China in it https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT209086

I am going to confirm this at the Apple store

That message does not say it was resolved in China...

It was never an issue in China, because of their 5G implementation (confirmed by the same models not supporting dual sim 5G in Hong Kong or Macao).

Bingo. Speed is at a premium. I can carry two phones until it’s figured out.

Using an iPhone 12 in Dual SIM mode throttles the cellular data speed to 4G LTE, according to an Apple Sales FAQ shared with retailers and carriers.

Screen-Shot-4.jpg

All 5G iPhone 12 models support Dual SIM mode, which refers to the ability to switch between a SIM card and an eSIM operating on independent numbers and/or carriers. However, an image of a training document from Apple's Sales Web resources called "What you need to know about 5G on iPhone" and posted to Reddit suggests the iPhone 12 will not support 5G on either line when Dual SIM mode is active. The FAQ reads:
The document suggests that only by disabling one SIM or the other will 5G speeds be available – a limitation that, if confirmed, will come as a blow to iPhone 12 customers who intended to use separate work and personal lines, for example.

On the bright side, this incompatibility could be a software issue, and therefore something Apple could resolve down the line. Indeed, the Reddit user who posted the above image claims that an update coming later in 2020 will enable 5G when using a Dual SIM mode.

This information is allegedly revealed in Apple's internal training documents, but 5G is not anywhere mentioned in Apple's Dual SIM support page, which was last updated on September 26. We've reached out to Apple to clarify the matter and will update this article if we get a response.

(Thanks, De Paul Sunny!)

Update: MacRumors has received independent confirmation that the documentation is genuine.

With one day left of 2020 and no support for dual SIM 5G yet, I’m officially regretting getting the iPhone 12 Pro. I can’t benefit from either AT&T nor T-Mobile 5G+ as they’re both available where I live. This sucks. Hope Apple fixes this soon.

That's bizzare, on my OnePlus 8 pro I could have at least 5G on one enabled and voice on the other 3G 4G for example. X55 modem. Meaning I could select which line was data. And that line would receive 5G.
Yep. That’s why people are complaining. Supposedly will be fixed with a software update. In the meantime, if your 5G sim is the physical sim, you just need to disable the esim when you want 5G.

Thanks for the clarification. I was just hoping to be able to have at least 5G on one line and voice on the other. Yes,I'm easily pleased 😄
Would you know if one needs to physically remove the sim to.get 5G on the esim line or can it just be disabled in settings. I read a Verge article stating the sim needs to be physically removed to get 5G .

You shouldn’t have to remove the physical sim. Works for me when I just disable one of them.
