It doesn’t make sense. If you’re willing to pay why not just wait until the battery is actually done for to get it replaced. Why would you wanna waste money by getting it replaced early? There’s no point in doing that unless you’re trying to sell it to someone.
In me experience, the reason why I am just willing to pay the $69 bucks because - well to put it bluntly, the battery drain now is just miserable. For me, I should not lose 10%+ when I go to the darn store for 30 minutes - phone it just in my pocket not even being used. It's simply frustrating

The problem is, how do you know the replacement won’t be just as bad?
And yes you are correct, this is a good point. We don't know.

Right now I would love for Apple to fess up and state "yes, we know of the problems with the batteries in a 'small percentage of users' of 12, 12 Pro's models - we will address this."
- When...or if this will happen. Again, we don't know.

Perhaps in a few years when many have already upgraded and no longer own a 12.

We don’t, but it won’t be as bad right away. This phone started out with stellar battery life.
Well it was far better that's for sure. Just shy of 3 months old in late Feb, I had a 100% drain overnight - unexplainable. Even to the Apple Genius Bar. (This is when I posted here, started following this thread)

That was my first time I checked that Coconut app. That showed 94% (phone 99%) I'm not entirely sure if the phone ever had a true 100% health from day one.

All guessing right now and in the past.

I have to weigh options now, flip flopping in my head also...If rumors are correct, the 13 Pro, Pro Max's will have a much larger battery, better lens again (faster super wide lens, working better in darker settings does interest me)..the fast screen refresh rate, and ...we'll see what else next Tues.

Do I trade this in for about $600, grab the new phone. Or keep this. (I HOPE there is a 256GB option this year, saw a few posts..unconfirmed rumors these may go from 128gb to 512gb - the 1TB?) Who knows!!?

BUT...if I do upgrade, it won't be a preorder, launch day phone. I do wanna see if there are possible major issues with launch day 13's. (That possible $600 trade in should remain until mid, late Oct. like previous years?)

*Of course bigger battery is nice...but if 13's degrade just as fast as many of our 12's, what's the point?
I think the one thing I will do it completely ditch MagSafe charging, go strictly back to old school 5w wired if this helps.

Ugh, silly decisions, 1st World Problems.

My 12 Pro Max is currently at 3254 mah, 88.3% by design capacity (system shows 88%), manufactured by a Desay corporation. I wouldn’t be surprised if everyone with a trash battery had a Desay corp. battery.
Not really true. I have that same battery manufacturer for my 12 pro max that i got on launch day and still remains 104%. Even Sunwoda can be bad too depending on when it was made. My wife had one that had the Sunwoda and battery capacity dropped rapidly within 2 weeks so my wife ended up returning it and got a new one.

Then I guess the quality control standards have been reduced drastically and like someone said earlier, it depends on the luck of the draw

My Mini 12 is at 86% capacity. After under a year. My 11 was at like 94%. Something is up with these 12 models.

Break the damn screen and pay the $29. Better battery and a new scratch-free phone. Two for $40 cheaper.

All interesting above. My 12 Pro battery was strong until I started wireless charging in a rental car in (very hot 34'C) Croatia on vacation a month ago. I also think that an app called Jumbo was having a flip-out & raging in the background, but my battery dropped from what I think was close to 100% down to 89% in just a few days there.

I've also wireless charged it on night-stand each night with 20W iPad charger which I've not done with previous iPhones.

Launch-day iPhone 12 Pro
Sunwoda
175 cycles
88%

Now that I think about it, Im wondering if my battery health is being affected from being outside frequently. I have a bike mount (sun exposure) and frequently ride for hours in 95+ degree heat. Though, I don’t believe my X suffered as fast of a degredation.

i did an experiment this time. Both my wife and i use our iphones very similarly. We dont plug in during the day and just charge at night.
I decided this time to charge via wireless charging exclusively, and my wife on wired (5w charger from her old iPhone 8).

Her battery capacity is still at 99%. Mine is at 95%. 9 months in. FWIW.

How interesting. My wife is 100% MagSafe and I'm 100% wired. Tho, she leaves her phone on MagSafe all night long while I only charge when I need to (60-80%). She's 95% while I'm way over 100%. Interesting indeed. This is the first time since the 6+ (when I started monitoring with coconutBattery) that we have had more than a few % difference between us. (We always get same phone).

My battery with 87% health is so bad… my wifi is down today, so I’m having to use mobile data.. made a couple of calls, played some tracks on AirPods, texted a little, scrolled on Reddit/safari with an sot of 3H 23mins and my battery is already down to 55% on my 12 Pro Max :/

I've had my 12 Pro for almost 6 months and it's at 94% health.

I've decided not to worry about it. I have AppleCare+ and if it hits 80% while I still own it, I'll just have the battery replaced.

I still need to charge it only once a day, at bedtime.
I’ve had my 11 (non pro) for just about 2 years now and the battery health is down to 84%. I’m not worried about it one bit either. I‘ll likely decide to trade it in for a 13-mini. But, if I decide to keep it one or two more years no big deal either since it’s only $69 to have Apple replace the battery:)
