Sort of on the fence whether to go Pro or Pro Max after seeing the 12 Pro next to the 11 Max which I have. Still got some time to decide.
I have the xs max and can’t decided if I should go pro or pro max. Been offered the pro for £12 cheaper then current plan. Not sure the increase in cost for the pro max would be worth the extra screen size real estate

My PB Pro arrived today, really like it. I'm sure FaceID is faster (coming from an X) but not sure if it's just in my mind. Either way it feels faster to me. Wondering if it will work better in the dark with the LiDAR, I'm presuming it will.

Same here. In any case for a "new learner" it's incredibly fast. FaceID on the X wasn't as fast from the beginning.

Similarly disappointed with mine. Not as bad as yours, but I lose about 8% of the battery per hour with light-to-moderate use. If I'm using it consistently, it's more like 20% per hour. My iPhone 11 (not Pro) was noticeably less than that.

Have turned off 5g, hopefully it at least matches the 11 now.

Wow. Woke at 7am, it's now 1pm - battery at 92%. (Working from home, so only using wifi)

12 Pro. Feel like this is a good indoor example of Smart HDR 3 at work.

I think I'm returning my 12 Pro. Going to get the blue 12 instead. Will be here next week. It's too heavy!

I just picked up my iPhone 12 Pro Pacific Blue 128GB from the Apple Store in Sydney Australia.

First impressions:
  • Coming from an iPhone 11 Pro Max and I am already loving the lighter weight
  • The pacific blue colour is beautiful. It's a cross between midnight green and space grey with a touch of teal. You get different colours in different lighting conditions
  • The squared off edges make it really nice to hold and it's less slippery compared to the curved edges of the last few years
  • Can’t tell the difference in the photos being taken compared to the 11PM. But then I’m no photographer
  • Match made in heaven when paired with the plum silicone case, but it doesn’t magically attach easily like they showed in the event.
  • MagSafe works as intended and the magnet attachment is quite strong I’ll watch out for the indent or ring on the back of the case shown in another thread
  • Still setting up my eSIM with my provider so will report back with 5G speeds once that’s done
Happy to take questions! Will try and answer when I’m on breaks from working from home :D

Some photos - Includes size comparison between the 11 Pro Max in a forest green leather case.

Just pre-ordered a 12 Pro Gold for pickup tomorrow. Hate going all the way into the city, but it was the only one with stock. Hopefully I can sell my 11 Pro on Swappa for a good price since I chose not to do the trade in.

Just realised a 12 with my current 11 pro case at 26gm which i would get again or similar, would weigh exactly the same as my 11 pro with no case lol. All this 5mins after ordering a 12 black.
So much for getting something lighter, might just run my 11 pro with no case seeing as it's 13 months old and as new 100% battery, and save the bucks, have house insurance if needed.

I've moved from an iPhone 7 to the 12 Pro so noticing a big difference.

I was worried it would feel to big and heavy in the hand but actually it feels comfortable and solid. Not too big for my pockets either. The edges do feel quite sharp but of course it has a protective case on already. I went for the Torras Diamonds case which still shows off the back colour nicely. The lips are slightly raised, which should protect the glass better, but not so intrusive as to make 'swipe up' unlock awkward. It feels comfortable to use, but is obviously a bit plasticky. Might look at the Apple leather cases when they come out - they do have a lovely hand feel.

The screen was yellow initially, when transferring data, but I switched off True Tone after set up and it now looks fine. Coming from the IP7 it looks huge but also incredibly sharp - the detail in previously stored photos, taken on my DSLR, really pops out. Transferring data from the old phone was a doddle and only took half an hour.

Speed is hard to quantify but everything on the phone just feels quicker and smoother, whether using wifi or 4/5G. 5G works but I have to go to the front of the house to find a signal - will only be an issue when my flaky (Virgin Media) wifi conks out.

Haven't done any battery testing but initial impressions are OK. Will need to use it for a few weeks before I can really tell. An hour long Facetime call, which would have killed my IP7, drained 15% of the battery. Wireless charging overnight using a cheap Anker Qi charger was silent and effective (with the Torras case on). I don't see the need for MagSafe.

I've been out for a bike ride using Strava and can report that the GPS seems more sensitive and accurate than on the IP7. Had an opportunity to test the camera out too. Again, this isn't a formal test, but I've loaded the images onto a 27 inch Mac and they are definitely crisper than similar photos taken with the IP7. I haven't tested the night mode functionality yet, or the LiDAR sensor (except to try the Measure App to see how tall my family are!).

One little wrinkle, which has been picked up in the Press - the NHS Covid-19 App failed to work after transfer from the IP7. So I deleted it, then downloaded and set it up again. It's working again, but it's lost my previous data.

I haven't really tested out the additional benefits of the IP12 Pro over the IP12 yet, so all of these comments would apply equally to the IP12, which is also 25g lighter. But, overall, I'm really pleased with this upgrade so far.
Is the back plastic on that case the hard type, like Spigen Ultra Hybrid? Or is it the soft flexible type? It looks great, better than what Spigen is putting out this year.

I’d get the pro Max, it’s really not much bigger in the hand. I have my case for the 12 pro Max I’m waiting to order and it doesn’t seem to be to big in regards to size, comparing to my 11 pro Max.

How much bigger does the 12 Pro feel compared to your old 11 Pro? Do the square sides make it feel bigger?

It does feel thicker to me, but it is easier to hold onto. To be honest, at first I was unsure ... but now I’m a fan.

Overall I’m pleased with the camera performance, although there does seem to be a tendency to oversharpen the images by default.

Coming from 11 Pro to 12 Pro and I also feel like bezels are a bit thicker. I guess it's the squared sides but it's the opposite to what I was expecting. I'd like to compare it to the standard iphone 11, which was noticeably thicker.

IMEI miss match most likely. People experiencing these issues need to be familiar with this term. Seems most prevalent on Verizon, but also AT&T.
That was the case with my wife’s Watch. The watch details weren’t pre-populated into Vzw’s systems so they had to do it by manual process. On my phone it was a mix of activation issues during early hours and a system flag for my 5G account, which I changed days earlier from my previously discounted (but LTE only) XXL plan.

This may be a really stupid question, so forgive me, but do you think this type of thing could happen if you set up a new phone and just move a SIM from your previous phone? I’m just wondering because that’s how I set up my 12 - just moved my SIM from my SE2020, which I think I had moved from my 11, but don’t remember.

Very nice review, and as others have said, what a beautiful cat and such well-taken pictures, too! Based on your description, I take it you literally turned on the camera and pushed the shutter button. Or did you apply any settings (Night Mode, exposure modification, etc.) before taking them?

I also received my iPhone 12 Pro 256Gb Pacific Blue yesterday, and I mostly agree with your sentiments. It’s a stunning color. I had the 11 Pro Midnight Green and grew a bit weary of it over time - it began to look “dingy“ to me at points. This color does not give me that sense, and only time will tell if the same thing happens here. But I’m not anticipating that. The OP is right about the handling and feel. I remember thinking the iPhone 5 felt a little uncomfortable to hold as a result of the flat sides, but this phone is a pure pleasure to manipulate. And superficially speaking, I LOVE that the design language is now more unified with the iPad Pro!

Time will tell as far as performance goes. I can’t make any big assumptions yet because I think the phone is probably still setting up stuff / indexing in the background, and like every new iPhone I get, it’s a bit more sluggish in the first couple days. That always goes away in a day or two, and at that point, my experience is that there is a significant speed jump.

My biggest frustrations this year may have nothing to do with the phone. First, I always set up my iPhones as “new” and for the life of me, I can not understand why every time I do, certain apps like Apple’s Notes do not update themselves in the background. The only way I can get my notes to populate is by keeping the Notes app open, and the moment the phone goes into Standby mode or I change to another app, it stops updating. I’ve checked every relevant setting and they all appear to be correctly set. This is only a problem when bringing in the notes the first time; after they finally do all show up, it seems to push updates as expected (if I create a new note on my iPad, it is immediately synced to the iPhone, etc.). It’s bizarre to me that this seems to happen every year/every new iPhone, and I have to assume it has something to do with the fact that millions of people are simultaneously hitting Apple’s iCloud servers, and it’s causing an intended or unintended limitation on automatic “push” of data to individual users. The frustration is that it takes a day or two to get all the notes and requires me to constantly initiate it by opening the Notes app. A first-world problem, for sure, and it’s not the end of the world (just frustrating, is all).

Second, I have had a very mixed experience with this year’s crop of accessories. So far, the MagSafe charger is just abysmal for me. Using an Anker 30W per port USB-C Power Delivery charger, it charges so slowly that I have to believe there is something wrong with it. I would estimate about a one percentage-point increase every 10-15 minutes. It also seems to generate an inordinate amount of heat. I’ll give it a few more days to see if Apple provides more news about what’s going on here, but if nothing changes, the two I purchased will be going back.

I also disliked Apple’s clear case; I found it very hard to attach and detach from the iPhone and immediately began worrying about scratches while doing so (I tend to use the iPhone caseless, but always buy one case for times when I want a little extra protection).

The Apple silicone cases, on the other hand, seem really nice this year. They are easy to take on/off, feel really nice in the hand, have responsive and tactile buttons, and come in attractive colors. I bought the Product (RED), Kumquat, and Plum with the intention of keeping the Kumquat (or the clear one) and probably returning the others. However, the Plum is just gorgeous and it’s the one I’ll probably keep. And that’s with me having an inherent bias towards Kumquat because orange is my favorite color. All of them are great; but in the case of the Kumquat color, I couldn’t remove the image of “Circus Peanuts” (Google it if you don’t know what these are) from my head when this case was on my phone! :p

I don’t think I have the photographic skills of the OP, but here are a few pictures of our little guy, taken with the 12 Pro. I made no edits at all; I snapped the photos and uploaded them here. The first two are “Photo” mode; the third was shot in “Portrait” mode.

I’m also including a shot of the Graphite 12 Pro and Pacific Blue 12 Pro side-by-side. I couldn’t decide which one I would like, so I purchased both. Both are beautiful, and I struggled with the decision. The Graphite is gorgeous and is a perfect aesthetic match for my Graphite Series 6 and would have fulfilled my neurotic tendency to match stuff, but in the end, I couldn’t pass up the beauty of the blue.

All in all, I’m excited about this year’s iPhone, but am extremely disappointed in the MagSafe charger. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this is a correctable issue, however.
I wish Apple Hong Kong had such a relaxed return policy. Unfortunately, we aren’t able to return products unless they’re defective.

I received my Pacific Blue on Friday and went to check out the other colours on Saturday. The Graphite is absolutely stunning and it almost made me regret getting Pacific Blue. I’ve always gone for the Black/Grey option so perhaps I was just not used to having something different. Fast forward a few days, now I’m very happy with the Pacific Blue. I just wish I could appreciate the colour a bit more while out and about. I’m using the Caudabe Veil case which arrived today. I’ve used this case for my past two iPhones and love the super slim dimensions. I was using the Apple silicone case for a couple days but find them too thick, although they’re very well made. I’ve tried several clear cases in the past and just find them too thick, too slippery, too prone to fingerprints, or just cheap feeling/looking. We can’t have everything I guess.

My thoughts after using for a few days. I am coming from a X. I loved my X. The battery life has recently become a problem as well as just general lag, slow etc.

The 12Pro is wonderful. Snappy, nice screen, bigger but doesn't feel too much bigger. Battery life is wonderful. I mean it's a great phone. Am I blown away like wow? Put it this way if my X had a wonderful battery I may not even keep this 12Pro... I know I know, shame, shame, shame.... lol

Sorry, I have no idea. :(

Took a walk in the park tonight and took some pictures with my 12 Pro. Given it was wet and dark I think the camera produced som excellent pictures.
Ps. I'm no photo wiz, but when I used the windows 10 built in photo transfer the pictures looked more lighter/grey.
Since I use HEIC i tried CopyTrans and then the results where much better. 95% of HEIC, but the HEIC version still looks like it has a better contrast ratio.
