From what I can see the max pro isn’t that much bigger physically than the pro but has better battery life

Ive got an 8 plus which I really hate , big and heavy with a crappy screen and I really hate touch id , Face ID is miles better . It’s my birthday soon so I think I’ll treat myself to one 😂

YOLO after all 🎉

If you don’t like the size of your 8 Plus then you’re not going to like the 12 Pro Max.

Agree, have a 12 pro Max upgraded from a XS max, without a case the 12 pro max is much more gripper in the hands.

It's your favourite iPhone till the iPhone 12s/13 is released. 😊😂
Haha true! It'll be interesting to see what the iPhone 13 will look like. The main reasons why I upgraded to the phone is because I'm Deaf with bilateral cochlear implants. And my current implant system does not allow direct streaming from my processors to the phone right now (which sucks) but I have a special audio cord that allows me to plug the cord directly into my processors and also into the phone to allow me to listen to music. Unfortunately that cord does not have a mic included with it so I can't do phone calls with it. I do have a bluetooth device where I can clip it onto my shirt and stream things wirelessly but I never liked how the music or phonecalls sounded to me through bluetooth. It's just uncomfortable to listen to — weirdly enough. So I've always just preferred something that I can plug into my phone or have something over the head. So when the rumors came out about the iPhone 13 having no port whatsoever and just charging completely wirelessly, I got fustrated with that because like me and others — we can't upgrade our Cochlear Implants sytem like how we can upgrade our phones every year. So it'll be interesting to see what the iPhone 13 has!

Can't see the iPhone losing the charging port anytime soon, reckon we are a few years away from that happening. pretty sure they'll cover all the bases before removing it and make sure everything works like it does now, maybe a little differently though. Promised myself I'm not upgrading this year, waiting for the foldable iPhone or unless apple makes me upgrade with their great marketing. 😂

I'm going to wait for the 13 pro with the same camera as the max in a smaller form factor, max is too big and I've got fairly large hands !

If I need something bigger I just go for one of my iPad Pros - 11 or 12.9

Since i got my CarPlay wireless adapter i don't use the charge port, yesterday did a 9 hour day, 6 hours driving and streaming music/radio and didn't need to charge my 12, still had 39% left.

You still looking at buying a 12 pro max, or you happy with the 12 atm?

Currently have a 12 pro max, next phone will be a 7.8” foldable iPhone. 😜🤪😝 unless apple tempt me with the 12s/13 pro max. 🤔
My next phone will probably be the 12s/13 pro or pro max for 120 hz. Then I'll hold onto that till a foldable comes out (iFold?) :D.

What are the chances of the 13 Pro having a vastly different design than the 12 Pro? My iPhone XS is pretty much dying and I was wondering if I should get a temporary phone to tide me over till the next one comes out or if I should just get the current model. Not keen on getting a 12 Pro if it'll be (design-wise) 'outdated' in a couple of months.

Every time I buy a new iPhone I keep it for like 4 years. People laugh at me, saying I carry "ancient phones", but hey, I just don't upgrade that often.

And since we just returned to the retro square edges, I figured, Apple's going with this hard edge design for a few years.

It’s unlikely that they’ll change to a different design after just one year.

I got the the XS Max in October 2018, and am considering the 12 - Should I just wait until the 13? I'm really disappointed in the photos I have taken with the XS. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but they are definitely not crisp and clean. Especially when zooming in.

zoom would be best with telephoto

For me it's Graphite or nothing.I can't stand the new blue nor silver / gold.
in fact I'm offered a fantastic deal for the 128GB Pro Max in blue but I refused it,Graphite was out of stock.

Very nice review, and as others have said, what a beautiful cat and such well-taken pictures, too! Based on your description, I take it you literally turned on the camera and pushed the shutter button. Or did you apply any settings (Night Mode, exposure modification, etc.) before taking them?

I also received my iPhone 12 Pro 256Gb Pacific Blue yesterday, and I mostly agree with your sentiments. It’s a stunning color. I had the 11 Pro Midnight Green and grew a bit weary of it over time - it began to look “dingy“ to me at points. This color does not give me that sense, and only time will tell if the same thing happens here. But I’m not anticipating that. The OP is right about the handling and feel. I remember thinking the iPhone 5 felt a little uncomfortable to hold as a result of the flat sides, but this phone is a pure pleasure to manipulate. And superficially speaking, I LOVE that the design language is now more unified with the iPad Pro!

Time will tell as far as performance goes. I can’t make any big assumptions yet because I think the phone is probably still setting up stuff / indexing in the background, and like every new iPhone I get, it’s a bit more sluggish in the first couple days. That always goes away in a day or two, and at that point, my experience is that there is a significant speed jump.

My biggest frustrations this year may have nothing to do with the phone. First, I always set up my iPhones as “new” and for the life of me, I can not understand why every time I do, certain apps like Apple’s Notes do not update themselves in the background. The only way I can get my notes to populate is by keeping the Notes app open, and the moment the phone goes into Standby mode or I change to another app, it stops updating. I’ve checked every relevant setting and they all appear to be correctly set. This is only a problem when bringing in the notes the first time; after they finally do all show up, it seems to push updates as expected (if I create a new note on my iPad, it is immediately synced to the iPhone, etc.). It’s bizarre to me that this seems to happen every year/every new iPhone, and I have to assume it has something to do with the fact that millions of people are simultaneously hitting Apple’s iCloud servers, and it’s causing an intended or unintended limitation on automatic “push” of data to individual users. The frustration is that it takes a day or two to get all the notes and requires me to constantly initiate it by opening the Notes app. A first-world problem, for sure, and it’s not the end of the world (just frustrating, is all).

Second, I have had a very mixed experience with this year’s crop of accessories. So far, the MagSafe charger is just abysmal for me. Using an Anker 30W per port USB-C Power Delivery charger, it charges so slowly that I have to believe there is something wrong with it. I would estimate about a one percentage-point increase every 10-15 minutes. It also seems to generate an inordinate amount of heat. I’ll give it a few more days to see if Apple provides more news about what’s going on here, but if nothing changes, the two I purchased will be going back.

I also disliked Apple’s clear case; I found it very hard to attach and detach from the iPhone and immediately began worrying about scratches while doing so (I tend to use the iPhone caseless, but always buy one case for times when I want a little extra protection).

The Apple silicone cases, on the other hand, seem really nice this year. They are easy to take on/off, feel really nice in the hand, have responsive and tactile buttons, and come in attractive colors. I bought the Product (RED), Kumquat, and Plum with the intention of keeping the Kumquat (or the clear one) and probably returning the others. However, the Plum is just gorgeous and it’s the one I’ll probably keep. And that’s with me having an inherent bias towards Kumquat because orange is my favorite color. All of them are great; but in the case of the Kumquat color, I couldn’t remove the image of “Circus Peanuts” (Google it if you don’t know what these are) from my head when this case was on my phone! :p

I don’t think I have the photographic skills of the OP, but here are a few pictures of our little guy, taken with the 12 Pro. I made no edits at all; I snapped the photos and uploaded them here. The first two are “Photo” mode; the third was shot in “Portrait” mode.

I’m also including a shot of the Graphite 12 Pro and Pacific Blue 12 Pro side-by-side. I couldn’t decide which one I would like, so I purchased both. Both are beautiful, and I struggled with the decision. The Graphite is gorgeous and is a perfect aesthetic match for my Graphite Series 6 and would have fulfilled my neurotic tendency to match stuff, but in the end, I couldn’t pass up the beauty of the blue.

All in all, I’m excited about this year’s iPhone, but am extremely disappointed in the MagSafe charger. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this is a correctable issue, however.
Graphite looks way better imo.
Blue will soon get boring just like that green on 11 Pro series.
Graphite will always look classy.
in fact I turned down a really good deal because they only had blue and no graphite in stock.

That’s a matter of opinion. Blue isn’t boring for me, black is because it’s too basic but that’s my opinion. Everyone has their own preferences and are not inclined to like the same things which is perfectly fine. I prefer blue over any color any day.

So in order to not become boring I’ll pick a shade if grey that’s already boring. Forward thinking, got it!

I have always had Grey/space grey/black phones. There was one that was silver/white because the grey had a long lead time.

I was tempted by the blue this time but I knew it would get old to me after the newness wore off, so I got the SG and a PB case.

I love my gold 12 pro max. But the white/ silver is just divine. So clean, and crisp, and modern. Just like the Apple brand. It's got that creative vibe.

If I were to pick a dark color, I'd definitely go with Pacific Blue. I would never pick a grey/black phone. What's the point? Life needs color!

If grey/black was boring,Apple (and everyone else) wouldn’t carry on using it on all its products for past 15 years.😉

there is a reason grey/black is always popular and never goes out of fashion specially for gadgets and electronics.

now let’s see how long they’ll keep that blue.😂

True boring colours are popular. Good old mainstream taste.

Yeah keep saying that to yourself because you chose the tacky color 😂
Never heard anyone calling anything black or grey boring,it’s the most sophisticated color.
but some people can’t appreciate sophistication and like tacky.;)
