It’s August. If they’re launching this year the decision is already made.
I agree! the decision has already been made over the summer. There's no way they're still trying to figure out if they need to include 120Hz or not.

As someone who has never used a 120Hz screen, I'm not particularly interested in this upgrade. Consider higher refresh rates drains the battery much faster, I don't see why I'd need it.

the display doesnt run full time at 120hz. it only ramps up that high when its needed. When you're viewing static subjects it actually drops down to something like 24hz.

I have it on my 10.5" iPad and its noticeable when it ramps up to 120hz with how smooth things are.

Exactly they can use battery and performance impacts to drive sales of future models like what happened with devices like the iPad 3 or iPhone 6 Plus though in their case it was mainly about performance being a issue since day one.

It's amazing to me that they still have the flexibility to add features this late in the game for a product that has to be manufactured in the millions. Shows how streamlined and efficient their operations/supply chains are.

So why would you even have an opinion? How do you know you're not interested? My wife just got a Samsung S20 5G with 120hz display and she loves it! Much easier on the eyes and makes the display buttery smooth.

Do you need it? Probably not. But the iPhone 12 has so few new features, 1 less is noticable.

If it's like their iPad Pro implementation, it will not be locked at 120Hz. Variable refresh rate allows them to reduce for things that won't benefit such as 24fps movies and other video content, while keeping their UI zippy (once you experience web scrolling on an iPad Pro, your eyes hate everything else). For gaming and Apple Pencil, there are input lag benefits to higher frame rates, too.

(if true) This is exactly they type of leadership that's missing from Apple that Steve Jobs brought - you set the objectives like 120hz and you don't sacrifice for this - you work through the supply issues. it's not like this is a surprise today... when they knew this 9 months ago - they would have made it happen.

They shouldn't launch without the 120hz screens. thought - I know they will under current leadership - it's more about the money and date then the best possible product.

It's one less reason to upgrade.

What features will the 12 even have then?

Get it right and delay the release.
If there’s no 120Hz that’s gonna be a bummer!
There is not enough to differentiate the “Pro” model from the rest if this is the case. I anticipated no 120hz and will not be upgrading.

Agree, a 10S, S model. Yay 5g only a small fraction of people can use for years and LIDAR that has zero practical use.

Dont forget those oh so precious flat sides 90% of more will cover with a case anyway

There is nothing "Pro" about these pro models.

All other major flagships in 2020 have 120hz and I think it’s absence would be very conspicuous. I certainly notice the difference — so it’s hard to justify an expensive smartphone that doesn’t even come with headphones or a charger without it.
So your evidence that is would be hard to justify is that *you* notice the difference?

Ok.

It might be hard to justify, but when they sell in the millions from day one, it’ll be a LOT easier to justify. Remember, this is the same Apple that was shipping small phones when all other flagships were larger.

People can do what they want with their own money but 60hz screen, same notch is not worth it for over 1k from those who have the 11 pro...older models maybe but not for the pro models

The regular models make far more sense...if you are going to have a 60hz screen might as well get the cheaper model.

Apple could, you know, NOT SHRINK the battery capacity. That would be a great start. This same x hour runtime is marketing speak.

And a Galaxy S20+ is roughly the same physical volume as an 11 Pro Max (4mm narrower by 4 taller) with a 4500mah battery. So Apple can only get a 900mah less capacity battery (assuming the 3600mah is correct in the rumors down by 10% roughly from 3969mah in the 11 Pro Max) in their phone despite worth $2 trillion?

Cmon man..... So basically Samsung can out-engineer Apple then getting ~30% more battery capacity in their phone?

Lets not forget the Note 20+ has a LTPO screen, which wait for it, APPLE HOLDS THE PATENT TO and Samsung licenses AND makes Apple's displays!!! So Apple can license the tech to them but not get the displays from them? Again, cmon man.

Let's stop giving Apple passes here there are few excuses in a $1000+ device where stuff is being taken out of the box already and possible price increase on top.

Apple has been kicking this can done the road for a while now. So who knows if really was going to add this release and then supply issues or just waiting for next years one more big thing.
