Does anybody really prefer a thinner phone over more battery?

I prefer what makes sense for my daily use. If A14 being more efficient means I'm still getting the same amount of usage despite smaller battery, then that's fine by me.

Giving people a bigger battery than they need isn't really good for the environment considering they sell 150 million a year and also considering how often people upgrade.

NO. Make the phone thicker, add bigger battery, eliminate camera protrusion. win-win-win

larger battery means more cost (which probably means $20-30 more expensive). and it's not good for the environment considering they sell 150 million iPhones every year.

Why would Apple put a smaller battery if the form factor is the same as an 11 Pro Max? Just b/c of the 5nm die size that's no excuse to shrink the battery.

Apple can have a huge hit with the Pro Series...I think they missed the boat. Rather than make cuts, go all out and price according to the market!!!

A14X CPU (5nm)
120Hz ProMotion display
+500ppi screen
6.5" and 7.5" XDR screen sizes
6000 mAH battery
8GB DDR4
256GB and 1TB storage options
Apple Pencil capability
65-watt adapter (fast charger)

Price $1499, $1699

I would buy this in heartbeat! No need to make the Pro Series an upgraded 12 or 12 Mini. Makes no sense...

With this list Apple would probably charge north of $2000 for the phone

I’m surprised no major phone manufacturer has ever made an extended capacity battery version of a phone. In the GPS smartwatch market, Coros came out with a watch that boasted twice the battery life of the best Garmins and it made them a legitimate player overnight.
Samsung has the Galaxy M series with 6000 and 7000 mAh batteries. Also, it’s very common in the low to mid range a Android to have at least around 5000 mAh batteries.

What this means is that the general public is not too concerned about battery life as long as it can last them around a day. Also, the idea of carrying a power bank is not strange anymore that people will just bring one while having a sleeker phone.

I would have been in, particularly with trade in value from 11 Pro Max. 1499 for a 256 and pencil capability and ProMotion is a steal.

You mean like Samsung did with their s20 flagships which flopped? Apple is smart enough to add this tech incrementally while keeping the (pro) prices the same as the previous year. In my region the 12 pro/pro max are actually 50 cheaper. 1449 lol.

And to the thread title. Apple didn't focus on the battery this year, but I'm positive they will next year. Especially if pro motion happens.

as long as it’s not worse I’m fine - but I’m also fine with a bigger phone with a bigger battery to have 120hz and always on but guess we will have to wait until next year for that

but I’d honestly rather them do it right than have a 120hz battery drain and clearly they couldn’t get the 1hz-120hz for this year. Samsung just throws out unoptimized garbage to say “we look good on paper”

this iPhone is also cheaper in Canada (although I’m sure the carriers won’t make it any cheaper LOL)

I dunno why is hard for Apple, they successfully creating high efficiency chips but very hard to increasing battery capacity. Instead when Apple introduced more efficient AX chips, they also reducing mAH as possible.

Do the both should be win win for customer, especially with 5G tech which consumes more juices.
That is the reason though. They do create efficient chips and OS something Android OEM's cannot do so they keep putting bigger batteries into slimmer devices and then have to add cooling so they do not overheat. Reviews for the other 5G iPhones show that Apple seems to have avoided the battery drain that previous 5G phones have had. I do love my 11 Pro Max though I only charge every 2 days sometimes 2.5 days.

soon it will be another selection (as you can see, some wants fat, some want thin)
iPhone 13 Pro (12hrs)
iPhone 13 Pro slim (10hrs) 50% thinner
iPhone 13 Pro fat (20hrs) 2x thickness

Not really, there is always a “correct” balance point to choose, between bigger battery and lighter/thinner phones. The “correct” balance point is different from people to people, depending on their usage patterns. Apple needs to basically find the correct statistic average.

To my personal usage pattern, I definitely like the balance point Apple chose!

interesting— so then what would they sell next year. Yea I would love that model but that wouldn’t make sense for Apple

I’m not going to make any excuses, if it’s bad, I’ll send it back, stick with my 8+ or get a refurb 11 pro Max. I can imagine next week, people telling people that’s having battery life issues, to turn off 5G. That’s not acceptable, so much for “Hi, Speed”.
well, I read over 20 reviews and they all say 5g consumes a lot of power - I would expect the same even with the Max and with a physical smaller battery

It's not the same form factor. 12 Pro Max is thinner.

Apple has never put a X class chip in an iPhone, only the iPad.
Pro Max has 460 DPI, do you really need more than that? IMO, no.
7.5" is a tablet. Go get an iPad mini
Twice the battery size? Sure, for twice the phone thickness and nearly double the weight.
8GB of RAM? They just went from 4 to 6. We don't even know the impact on this. 6 might be good.
65-watt fast charger? It already uses the 20 watt fast charger. Samsung only goes up to 45w.

Did you just throw out random numbers?
