I noticed this issue on my 12 pro about 3 weeks ago. I was upgrading from an iPhone 7 so I’d never experienced OLED before. I am still not amazed by the display, after using the phone for about 5 weeks. This may be because OLED isn’t all that different from lcd, but I’m starting to suspect it has something to do with dark mode looking more like grey mode. At first, though, i could only see the green/gray in completely dark rooms when looking at a black screen. It’s possible that it’s just because i am more aware of it now, but the problem seems to have progressed. Even when i am not actively seeking out these raised blacks, i notice a greenish hue in the settings app and flickering green on the borders of a YouTube video in only slightly dark rooms. I really hope Apple provides a software fix soon because for such an expensive phone, this is quite irritating. Not to mention, i have a hunch that those not off pixels are effecting my battery life as well.

When I press the volume buttons during the black video test (in a dark room) a whole portion of my screen turns a light grey colour. It's like a whole strip of grey around 2cm wide (behind the volume rocker) reaching from the top to the bottom of the display. The grey that appears behind the volume rocker is a lot brighter than the flashing grey on the rest of the screen. Anyone else have this issue when pressing your volume buttons?

Doesn’t seem like it’s fixed. Still appeared on the boot up after the update. Guess we’ll see a Service Program sometime next year. I don’t see this getting fixed unfortunately.

really unacceptable to sell OLED screens that cant reproduce perfect blacks and in fact worse ones than a non defective LED

Software bug, not panel...

I returned my first 12 Mini because it had washed out colors and some yellow tint too, although not a lot of tint. It also had this problem here too, pixels not turning off. But it was hard to see it, you really had to search for it in a dark room.

My second 12 Mini has only a slight reddish tint and no washed out text colors etc. It also seems somehow a little brighter in same settings than the 12 Mini before. But it also has a more visible black pixels not turning off. You can see it easier here than on the Mini before. Still no visible green tint with darker colors. But more visible black screen not turning off. Strange.

Installing 14.3 RC version. Let's see if this fixes my blacks!
At this point I don't know if I should get a replacement or it's all going to have some kind of screen issue.

Its still not fixed. Im just going to right it off as it will be fixed in the iPhone 13. I only notice it when I try very hard using the tests here. No way in hell would I try a replacement or take one even if apple fixes it. Im trading it in 11 months from now anyway and it takes me days to get all my password entered etc.

Damn, makes me glad I'm still using an older OLED iPhone. The true inky blacks is one of my favorite things about these screens.

Got my new iPhone 12 Pro today, but still have this issue.

Production year : 2020
Production week : 49 (December)
Model introduced: 2020
Factory: F1 (China, Zhengzhou - Foxconn)

I strongly believe that all of them have it.Simply most of the people don't even bother to check it.Their main concern is the yellowish issue.

Let me chime in on the "does my iPhone 12 have this issue?":

First, my backgound. I am a video and television guy that has years of color grading experience with DaVinci Resolve. Flanders Scientific LCD panels are not uncommon to me. Secondly, I have used every single iteration of iPhone including the first OLED versions (X, 11). Lastly, I have access to lots of iPhones because of my job. Like hundreds.

I've read every single post in this thread (324 posts). And my summary judgment is that all iPhone 12s have raised blacks in low screen brightness ranges, and this issue is not present in Xs and 11s.

All iPhone 12s.

As to why some people deny their iPhone 12s exhibit it?
-The problem is only shown in certain conditions
-some viewers aren't critical enough to notice

So in summary, all iPhone 12s technically have the issue, but if you don't see it--it's not an issue to you. It is, however, an issue for me.
