I’m following this thread since the beginning as a iPhone 12 mini owner and victim. Happy Thursday Guys, maybe 14.3.1 will save us today. And some dark humor attached ..

Apple can **** themselves for ignoring such big issues. I don't even care anymore because it will be my last iPhone I have ever bought. They can't even get a good display to work in a +1000€ Phone. There are Phones out there which cost a third of an iPhone and still have a better screen.

I loved iPhones back in the day but Apple has been **** for many years now.

Spoke to multiple Apple support and Genius Bar employees. At this point Apple is very well aware that this issue is wide spread to the point where they are refusing any kind of repair or replacement for any phone that comes in with a “backlight” issue, be it green glow or raised black and in my case a uneven tint on the display at low brightness levels. The only solution they have as of now is to keep the device updated. They aren’t entirely sure if it solely a software issue tho. And no one is giving any kind of timeline as to when a solution can be expected either.

The local Apple Genius Bar knowingly replaced my original device with another defective(not on purpose) phone and now they are refusing to either repair or replace this and making me stick with a more problematic (uneven colors) phone for no one knows how long. I wish they were upfront about it when I went in for the first time. They now locked me in as I don’t have my original device to return for a refund either. This is my worst smartphone purchase experience and I’m shocked and sad it is from Apple.

Yeah it’s faulty screens, every single iPhone 12 is affected, no iOS update can fix this and Apple ignored this for almost three months. I’ve had the same with my 12 PM and just returned it and kept my perfect OLED in iPhone X.

I got my 12 Pro Max today. I'm not going to do whatever steps are necessary to see this green (on purpose), because I'm happy so far. I realize that might change if I start to notice it later on.

On the screenshot showing your calendar, the fact that the top and bottom bars are green but the middle is perfectly black points to software, otherwise the entire screen would be green while in that app. It’s as if the OS can’t render some blacks properly or the coding on some blacks is wrong.

This has been said since November..

“We are aware”, but nothing changes.

Yeah. But denying repair under warranty for a defect from their side is illegal. They clearly stated that I will be charged 99$ incident fee if I want to go ahead with the repair/replacement. If they are actively telling service centers to deny customers coming in with these screen problems any service under warranty then they better come up with a solution soon. Software or Hardware.

There may be a hardware component but the behavior during startup indicates this is at least partly software. For most of startup, the screen remains pure black - the areas outside of the Apple logo are pitch black. As startup is ending, the screen starts alternating between pure black and the raised black. This indicates the software is, for some reason, turning-on the pixels that should be off.

I also see the issue in my 12 pro max, especially in photos app it is very easy to find a pitch black photo and reveal it even with 100pct or 0pct brightness. When I watch HDR videos in youtube or netflix though I have none of these issues. So my estimations also point closer to a software glitch. And I am using 14.4.

This happened with my launch 12PM device in a pitch black room, it doesn’t happen with my new device and there are no raised blacks. Build week 50 - so if it’s software, one would expect it happen on my new device. However, I can accept that there are different screens out there that have their different drivers.

Got another iPhone 12 today, production week 40, screen is Samsung G9P, no raised black or flicker in pitch black room.

Fair point.
