Oh ya sure let's upgrade to a new iphone pro every 2 years.

You wouldn't have to pay that amount every two years (nor would you need to buy AC+) as the phone would still have resale value. Also, carriers (at least in the U.S.) often offer trade-in incentives that can make trading up even less expensive. Whether it's worth or not is still debatable but you wouldn't be paying 100%/full price for a phone every two years.

Why are they comparing to the iPhone 12 Pro and not the iPhone 13 pro?
I want to see features and comparisons versus this year not from the past....
The iPhone X was the last time there was a significant reason to upgrade to the next generation phone. If you are doing so its because you enjoy having a new phone each year, not because of a spec or feature so there's no real need for that kind of comparison.

Regardless, here is the 14 Rumor Roundup so you can just compare it to your phone.

Just read our iPhone 14 Pro roundup for that: https://www.macrumors.com/roundup/iphone-14-pro/

A year-over-year comparison would just be a recap of iPhone 14 Pro rumors that you can find anywhere on the internet, including here at MacRumors.

These 12 Pro vs. 14 Pro and 11 Pro vs. 14 Pro comparisons I did have more unique value.

On a 12 Pro Max here. Sure was hoping for USB-C this year but gonna upgrade anyway while I can still get a decent about for the 12PM.

Only if you are lobbying for people to upgrade. Any new phone will look good compared to 2 or 3 year old phones.
But then this "Phone 14 Pro rumors that you can find anywhere on the internet," is exactly what this article is doing....just versus older phones.

iPhone 12 Pro. Battery is at 88% and I would appreciate the better camera.

But I'll probably wait to upgrade until USB-C. I transfer hour-long 4K60 videos on a semi-regular basis. iCloud chokes on that. AirDrop isn't the best. So I use cable. And Lightning is just stuck on ancient speeds.

If they upgraded Lightning to even 5Gbps, I would happily stick with it. But I doubt they will.

I still have an X which works just fine since I don’t push the processor but am thinking it may be time to upgrade screen size with a Pro Max and enjoy a much improved camera.

Ok so like at least $1300 dollars to trade in and upgrade. Carriers in Canada don't give you anything unless you pay a ridiculous amount for your phone plan. That's still a lot of money to upgrade and the phone has to be in immaculate condition to get a good trade in value.

Still a lot of money.

Just buy it if you have money

Given that many customers upgrade their iPhones every two to three years nowadays, there are still plenty of iPhone 12 Pro owners who might be interested in upgrading to the iPhone 14 Pro later this year. While year-over-year iPhone updates are often incremental, the new features begin to stack up after two generations.

As a refresher, we've put together a list of new features and changes to expect if you upgrade from an iPhone 12 Pro to an iPhone 14 Pro. The list includes features that Apple added to the iPhone 13 Pro last year and features rumored for the iPhone 14 Pro, which Apple is expected to announce in September as usual.
  • A16 chip vs. A14 chip: The A15 chip in the iPhone 13 Pro is already up to 20% faster than the A14 chip in the 12 Pro, according to Geekbench 5, and performance should improve even more with the A16 chip in the iPhone 14 Pro.
  • Brighter display: Compared to the iPhone 12 Pro, the 14 Pro's display should have up to 200 nits higher peak brightness.
  • No more notch: Rumors suggest Apple will replace the notch with a pill-shaped cutout and a hole for the Face ID sensors and front camera on the iPhone 14 Pro.
  • ProMotion: Introduced on the iPhone 13 Pro, ProMotion allows for a variable refresh rate up to 120Hz for smoother appearing content and scrolling.
  • Always-on display: Rumors suggest the iPhone 14 Pro will feature an always-on display mode that shows the time, date, and iOS 16's new Lock screen widgets.
  • Longer battery life: Already, the iPhone 13 Pro gets 22 hours of video playback vs. 17 hours for the 12 Pro, and rumors suggest that iPhone 14 Pro models could feature even larger battery capacities.
  • Many camera improvements: iPhone 12 Pro users upgrading to the 14 Pro will get many camera upgrades, including a rumored 48-megapixel Wide lens on the rear camera with support for 8K video recording, an upgraded front camera with autofocus, increased optical zoom, sensor-shift image stabilization, Macro mode, Cinematic mode, ProRes video recording, Photographic Styles, and more.
  • Wi-Fi 6E: iPhone 14 models are rumored to support Wi-Fi 6E, allowing the device to connect to Wi-Fi networks using the 6GHz band.
  • 5G improvements: iPhone 13 Pro models feature more 5G bands than 12 Pro models for greater 5G coverage, and the iPhone 14 Pro is expected to use Qualcomm's newer Snapdragon X65 modem for improved 5G performance.
  • 1TB storage option: Unlike the iPhone 12 Pro, the 14 Pro should be available with at least a 1TB storage option.

I have a 12 mini and will be upgrading to the 14 Pro this year, I usually skip one release so I am "due" for an upgrade. The notch being gone is enough of a reason to upgrade for me.

Also, I got the 12 mini for two reasons, one is that it fits perfectly fine in my uniform pocket (I am retiring from the Army this year so no longer need to worry) and two it was free when I upgraded from the X to the 12 Mini.

If your apps run fine, and you can run the latest OS for some feature you want... is there any other point to spend the money other than vanity? Replace the battery if that starts to go, otherwise, why not ride it out? I'm up to three reasons to move off my iPhone 7 now, but not very compelled to do so... Digital Drivers license if/when it becomes available, maybe the pinpoint accuracy of Apple Airtags? (Which by the way, NEED a family share feature still), and not saying I'm swayed from what I see so far, iOS 16.
I agree, if none of the features are what you are looking for and your current phone works fine, why upgrade? If the 14 Pro releases like it says on this article, then I will upgrade, if not I'll keep the 12 Mini I have.
