One option would be to turn on low power mode. In low power mode, the 2 performance cores are shut down and only the 4 efficiency cores are used at 1.37 GHz/core. In low power mode the A15 only uses 3 watts of power. Even in low power mode, the A15 still can run a video game at a constant 60fps. There is s video that goes over this. I was shocked at how powerful Apple has made its efficiency cores. Low power mode does not mean no horse power.

Oh yeah read that. Shame that we lose 120hz that way right?

Another update on my low power mode extreme hyper-mile battery test. It is now 24 hrs that I have been doing this test. Right now my battery usage has been 7 hrs 21 mins, 39% battery used.

I have put my phone down for the night. I will continue this in the morning again. I will stop the testing when I reach 20% battery. It will be interesting to see how much battery is used in standby tonight.

So far, insane bonkers battery life has been consistent. My phone seems to always stay cool to the touch, never gets warm even when I am visiting macrumors.com. This could be due to the ad blocker AdBlock Pro that I am using.

Statistics so far:
  • Only initially charged my phone to 85%. I don't charge my phone to 100% and I don't let it drop below 20% so far.
  • In low power mode, the A15 two performance cores are shutdown and only the four efficiency cores are used that run at 1.37GHz/core. Also, the A15 only uses 3 watts of power in low power mode.
  • Last night in standby I lost 3% battery.
  • Only used 9% battery in 3 hrs 22 mins. This is from the last update I gave where I had used 30% battery. That is an average of 2.67%/hour battery usage.
  • In 24 hours usage, have used 39% battery. I have been averaging 1.625%/hour battery usage. Bonkers.
  • The estimate on battery life using 100% battery would be 18 hrs 50 mins. Again bonkers.
  • Given that I am only going to use 65% (85% to 20%) battery total in this test, I could see an estimated battery usage of 12 hrs 15 mins.

@Demaker I made a big mistake. When computing battery life usage, I did not take into account the off-screen time. I guess I really did not understand what that was, I had to look up what it really meant. It just means apps running while the screen is turned off. I just did a recalculation and your total battery usage was 5 hrs 10 mins (on-screen + off-screen), used 51% battery. Your estimated battery life usage for 100% battery would be just over 10 hrs. That is really great battery life for a 13 Pro phone. Hope that brightens your day a bit with that good news.
Hmm, I don't think so :( I saw people who made 5-6 hours SOT, not SOT+off screen.

Battery Life Update:

Night Drain: in 13 hours 8% was lost that's not much over 0.6% per hour, not bad considering I have two eSIMs.

Over 50% charge left, last recharge 6.15pm on Sunday. I haven't used it much, I would say max 2 hours but at this time my previous Android phone would have died already.

This was on iOS 15.0.1

I‘m quite surprised by my 13P. I thought it would do way more bad than it actually was. Probably 5:30-6h SOT with 90% LTE. Keep in mind I‘m using maps often and I don’t have signal in the underground

Very impressive, especially when using cellular for 90% of the time.

How much does the maps consume?

Why no 5G?

No signal on the underground? which one?

Screen-off time just means that an app is still running but your screen is turned off. In most cases, this is an app that is running in the background. That app is still consuming battery.

Starting second day of my low power mode hyper-mile extreme battery test. Used 4% battery in standby overnight. Right now I my 13 Pro Max has 39% battery, used 46% battery.

Are you finding that eSim drain the battery? I am also using eSim and zi have not found that to affect battery usage at all.

Agreed, go through ANY apps in the background that may be using refresh. Toggle them off, many have no reason to be "refreshed" and running in the background. So many just suck up battery.
I have background app refresh completely turned off. I have no apps that need to run in the background.

Maybe I should make test with YT with all day screen on. Is it must give around 8-9 hours?

You think anything that is running in the background should be excluded from the total battery usage? You will be claiming less battery life if you do. Step back and think about that for a moment looking at the battery usage chart.

20 hours that way on a Pro. I did 1 hour Netflix on wifi and used just 5%. But everything else destroys my battery.

No, but I try to kill apps when I not use.

20 hours on Wifi/cellular? No way :D

I do think that there is a bug in the iOS battery usage, where the screen on-time/off-time is not being updated correctly.

Might have to wait until iOS 15.1 is released as that might have a fix in it for the battery usage.

Well, I tried, couldn't believe it myself either. 1 hour in wifi with 30/40% brightness I used 5%. The screen is downclocked to 24Hz during videos, no need for 120Hz, and probably the A15 enters in some kind of optimised mode. Still pointless to me, when I use the phone normally in 4G during the day I use 1% every 3-4 minutes (browsing, photos etc).

So Apple should optimize daily use of popular apps like FB, Messenger, Instagram - not only videos :p
