Mini "fan" here.

I dumped Apple after the 5/5s series when they did the "me too" with subsequent big-ass phones. Tried the 8... not bad but then came more unwieldy devices so once again, bye Apple. I'm now back with the 12 mini; light and fits anywhere. I'll most likely upgrade if there's one more in the works.

Some of you kiddies will never know how we managed to use the original iPhone with a 3.5" display without issue.

Huge mini fan, but you know you can't compare the pocket PCs we have today to the OG iPhones without the App Store. The screen size has jumped to extremes because phones are the single device a lot of people use for everything.

Its a shame the mini is not as popular as Apple hoped, I don't think it launched at a great time in the middle of a pandemic. Its easy to go for an iPhone 12 if you have already had an 11 or XR as they are the same form factor - you know what you are getting size wise, but with internal improvements.

But the Mini - 12 being a new form factor, people like to see it first hand before buying. I've only just been able to go to an Apple store to see one in person last weekend - now I know its the form factor I want - so it will be a mini 12 or 13 for me to replace my standard size iPhone 11.
Agree . . . also given the sporadic availability of a "mini" model the replacement cycle may not have worked to the Mini 12's advantage - people wanting a mini form factor may already have given up and bought an 11 of some type so weren't ready for another upgrade.

Define "a lot".

I think it's a minority and a small minority at that. For everyone else, their phone will always be an extension of at least one other device with a larger display.

Work is a totally different animal, but if you remove the need for a laptop for work I think more people are using a phone than a laptop/iPad for everything else. I don't even think that is really debatable.

I would argue the phone is the main device, and everything else is an extension of that.

I love the size of my mini, but damn is the battery life absolute trash. I do mid day charges every day.
What the hell are you doing with you iphone, watching 6 hours youtube nonstop? I have my mini since the launch and never had a problem with the battery- usually it lasts 1,5 days with 4 hours screen time a day. I don't get this battery life complaints, the battery is much better then the iphones 2-3 years ago.

Just the usual: social media, email, reddit. It's not bad when connected to wifi, but as soon as I am on cellular network, the battery starts to drain like crazy. Guessing you are on wifi all day? I could never get 1.5 days out of this thing with light usage.

Have you checked the Mobile Data Options in settings? If you don't use 5G, then turn that bad boy off to save a decent amount of battery and just use 4G.

I get a day with my mini with keeping 5G on all the time. I don't do reddit or social media. I mainly check email, MR, and some work related apps

im convinced that the mini would have sold a lot better if it were released in a non pandemic year where people could have seen it in person.
That, along with the price being $50+ dollars cheaper just to get people hooked on the mini Apple drug. :D Things may or may not have been dramatically different sales wise but it will be interesting to see what happens this year.

I wonder if that same goofball forum member here will still claim there won't be an iPhone 13 Mini.

I wonder if with the pandemic, and people not being out & about, mini sales suffered. When I'm out, I really want a pocketable phone that is comfortable in my front pocket when sitting. Now with people being more mobile again, I could see customers revisiting what works for them when out and active.

The 6.1" and 6.5" models were introduced pre-pandemic and flourished. That led Apple to introduce the 6.7" model. I don't see any reason why consumers would turn to small phones any time soon. Phablet sales suggest consumers want larger displays to view content especially when they're away from home or the office.

If the iPhone 13 mini has actually reasonable battery life, then Apple could reconsider keeping the form factor for the 2022 model. A big "killer" for iPhone 12 mini sales was the shorter battery life per charge compared to the regular iPhone 12, in the opinion of many.

I wish the mini were smaller, especially shorter. It’s still impossible to get to notifications or control center.

Thanks for the tip; I will give it a try. My phone went from 74% to 33% between noon and now.

Jpack, what about the 5.8" Pro models though, they did sell well, and although not considered a small phone, definitely fits the 'compact' phone category. How would you feel if Apple re-introduces this size?

If the rumored increase in battery size is accurate, you are looking at about an extra hour or so.
