Jpack, what about the 5.8" Pro models though, they did sell well, and although not considered a small phone, definitely fits the 'compact' phone category. How would you feel if Apple re-introduces this size?

I think it would be suitable as an SE device with a single lens camera. Any premium device today should have a 6" or larger display in order to accommodate a big battery and camera.

I want to push off upgrading until iPhone 14 for 120hz display- love it on my iPP- but there might not be an iPhone 14 Mini! I’ll just upgrade this cycle, I guess. Maybe if enough of us buy the Mini, Apple will consider keeping it around. :(

Wishful thinking. It would delight me if Apple continued with the mini. I am afraid we will need to hoard them for future use. lol

Doubtful. It is very likely their internal roadmap is already completed or very nearly so when it comes to the 14 lineup. These things take time and I doubt they would do an about face with 6 months to go before launch of the 14. If they hadn't already had it in the works it's likely the 13 mini wouldn't have seen the light of day.

Why do you predict this? The latest iPhone Mini 12 was a sales disaster.

Apple could discontinue the iPhone Mini altogether. Why would they want year after year after year of a failed product?

Unless there's a good portion of X owners like myself who - upgraded from the 6/6s/7, realized that it was tad bit bigger in size, but were still comfortable with it being significantly smaller than the 6/6s/7 PLUS, and since the phone has been a great device since 17, saw no need to upgrade to the 12 mini, because we want the 2nd version of "the small iPhone."

wasn't this a failure to them and they had to cut down on production?

Maybe the SE line will change to the Mini.

Having an OLED display on a phone with such a small screen and battery is overkill. If Apple used an LCD (aka Liquid Retina), the Mini's battery life would increase and it would also cost less to manufacture and less expensive for customers to buy.

By using an LCD display, Apple could sell the phone for around $100 to $125 less compacted with one having an OLED display. Profit margins will barely be changed (might actually increase) and a lower price might tempt people away from the second generation SE.

I thought OLED was more power efficient!?

I hope so. But I really just want flagship features in a small package.

I wouldn't call the Mini...well, mini. I had to use both hands or crawl up and down the screen to reach all four corners of it. The 5.4 mini screen is near 15% larger than SE's 4.7 screen, and the 4.7 of the SE is what we used to call back in 2012 a "phablet" !

Imo Apple probably doesn’t want the mini to sell well. Apple made the 12 mini as a strategy for people to spend more money on the price increased regular iPhone 12 (compared to iPhone 11 the previous year) without realizing it. So the fact the 12 sells well (which means more margins for Apple) means the mini does its job, and Apple doesn’t need much of it. I bet Apple will continue selling the mini until the margin for the regular iPhone is acceptable at $699. Once that happens, we can see the mini dropped.

If it turns out that the mini is selling better than the regular iPhone, we will see Apple increasing its base price. Seems like that’s the Apple way (eg. iPad Air selling well, iPad Air 4 price increase. iPhone 11 selling well, iPhone 12 price increase).

Sounds like a LOT of backwards work, just to get margins up to an acceptable metric at $699. Why not think for a moment that Apple didn't need to make the mini to boost regular iPhone 12 sales, and instead could've just made the iPhone 12 more profitable per unit sold??!

Apple has had less manufacturing issues with Foxconn. Both have had questionable labor practices over the years. If this production is mainly in India then that would be more of a concern, IMO.

Why? Please explain why production would be a concern in India or any other country for that matter when made by the same manufacturer who would train and monitor employee work?

ked for flagship spec in a smaller package.
Given a smaller package in a mid-spec.
But yet has the flagship cpu and sub-system just like the pro does.

No need to hoard per se ... just keep your 12 mini run that out until no more warranty support and it dies, get the 13 mini on its last 'in stock' days with AppleCare+ and trust me, down the road repairs will be scarce for parts and Apple store will have to upgrade you to the 13 regular should the wait be to long and several repairs occur ;)

Honestly I say write into Cook and others involved with iPhone hardware. let them know how MUCH you love this device design, pocketable size and push for them to advertise the device for it's success.

Do your research on India’s production issues. I’m not getting into this in here, and the Social, Political, Religious Forum no longer exists.

Have a good day. 😉

The damn camera...
Enough said.
Other than the CPU and the screen, essentially a downgrade comparing to an iPhone X.

Lmao!

pictures of the mini are a LOT better clearer and sharper regardless of the zoom than the X.

also if Camera is your only gripe about the mini being lessor, explain to my why the Pro vs Pro Max has got different “pro” cameras? Sure I’d like a telephoto but the X wasn’t so great with pictures for point AF shoot for telephoto - returned it in 14 days. The weight was unnecessary.
