iPhone 13 Models Will Be Slightly Thicker and Will Have Larger Camera Bumps

I suppose everything is a compromise. The camera bump lends itself to better photographs. While I wish the device was flush, higher quality pictures are more important to me.

The thickness doesn't really bother me, but the weight does. Especially on the Pro models with stainless steel and even larger batteries, it gets quite heavy. I still remember picking up an iPhone 5 and original iPad mini and being so startled by the lightness that I nearly dropped them.

I am okay with thickness, they could make it as thick as the bump, that's it! As of now, I need to have a case on the phone so that the device can lay flat on the table.

Finally Apple realises the device needs to be thick enough to provide proper feature and structure support. So long about Jonny Ive era “thin is everything”.

With that being said, I wish iPad internal cable could be a bit thicker.
Under Jony Ive era, iPhone hit lowest thickness in 2014. MacBooks in 2015.

That's what we have been pining for! Larger camera bumps.

I wish they would make a flush bar again. One can hope.

Hey, it could be worse:

Please please please swap the zoom with the ultra wide on the regular sized phone. Leave the nearly useless ultra wide lens for the “pros” who would make the best use of it.

I'm with you on this. I love a telephoto lens, and rarely use the wide angle... and when I do, I'm never happy with how it ends up looking - I'm sure I don't have enough of an artistic eye to get it right. But the telephoto lens has pragmatic use that I miss when I don't have it.

That said, I think we're in the minority. :)

Those camera bumps looks huge. I'm excited to see what the new cameras can do though. I'm hoping someday Apple makes the lenses flush in the camera bump.

Didn’t several analysts indicate this model would be called the 12S since it’s a virtually unchanged design from the 12? The only reason they skipped from 11 to 12 with no 11S was because the design was changed. I’m surprised rumor outlets keep calling it the 13.

Honestly, I don't see how that's worse. The camera bump is a cancerous growth on the iPhone, and that cancer is growing fast.
If this keeps up, people will be better off with a separate piece of hardware for their camera.
And how is such a chunky growth on the phone necessary? What happened to the last 5+ years of "our magical phone is better than a DSLR"? If the camera was so amazingly good 5 years ago, what excuse is there to make a huge ugly bump now? If the technology getting worse? Look at iPhone releases over the past 5 years and how the marketing and fans have described the camera?

Alas, physics may just about make this near on impossible to do, unless there's a technological breakthrough. Even periscope lenses will require a minimum bump to let in sufficient light and accommodate the sensor size (smaller sensor = less light = lower quality image).

This development will not have any kind of significant impact in sales.

I for one do not need to upgrade so often as my iPhone is company-issued, but this would not prevent me from getting the latest device if I were in the market.

I don’t care about thickness. Will it weigh more? If so, that’s a big negative for me.

I'm thinking along the same lines. And if the thickness is needed to bump up the camera specs, well and good.

But my iPhone XS is already on the heavy side for me. It's a lot more noticeable when holding the phone for extended periods of time. If the iPhone 12 Mini had a telephoto lens, I'd have been really compelled to get that model.

I'm hoping the iPhone 13 Pro doesn't weigh more than the iPhone 12 Pro, which is already pretty hefty.
