I'd like to see TouchID+FaceID. I think the two can be very much complementary to one another.

Even once we are out of the pandemic, I could see the combination of the two creating for a super secure authentication where one would need to authenticate via Face ID + Touch ID. Heck, could even add another layer and do both + passcode for even more security. Lots of applications with multiple methods, I'd be happy to have both on my device.

I can appreciate TouchID but in winter it sucks, having to remove gloves and it messing up in the rain, all these issue were eliminated with FaceID which for me is easier and I dont even think about it... Yes, masks are the new gloves but you can set an alternate appearance to trick it into working with a mask (doesn’t always work).. but with the new Apple Watch unlock feature (in beta) this has removed any issues with masks.

I guess it doesn’t hurt to have both options for people to decide as it is a personal thing people like and the issues I face people wya not face in other countries due to weather.

Woulearn be nice to see touchID override the faceID payment option when buying stuff online/App Store as I find it annoying having to double tap side button (its not hard but annoying at times) this would speed that up for us As TouchID doesn’t need you to use physical buttons to approve a purchase.

Yeah I don’t have high hopes for better zoom or macro,it’s really annoying though, you could take really neat pictures and completely ditch a real camera if iPhone had Macro mode like Samsung S21 Ultra and 5x or better zoom.
(Samsung S21 Ultra has 10x optical zoom)
But sadly even iPhone 12 Pro Max is stuck with just 2.5x zoom with no closeup capability at all.
That’s weak.

Apple needs to realise not all users only care about silly selfies and happy with such basic camera.

I think they realise it’s important and why they are working on it but they just don’t load phones with all the features at once. It’s frustrating

I’m hoping it will be worth the wait and Apple knows people will wait if they prefer iOS. The zoom of the s21 ultra I’m very jealous of.

apple successfully implemented touchID in an ipad sleep/wake button and has been enlarging (then finally flattening) the one on the iphone for years. do the math!
they need to eventually get rid of that notch as well, which doesn’t bode well for faceID (not that its relative cost and performance ever did). consider the portless iphone that new magsafe has very blatantly foreshadowed. which biometric input makes more sense for those designs and assemblies?

I’m sure Apple will be encouraging mask use after Covid when people have a cold, so I bet that’s how they’ll sell it this fall.

A) Not all customers will be thrilled with having ports and features added back they neither want nor need.
B) These are all still rumours and rumours often do not pan out.
A) More ports is best for everyone. They will still have 4 USB-C/Thunderbolt ports I’d assume.

B) No smoke without fire and it’s been same rumours from different sources.

The best implementation of FaceId is on the iPad Pro. Makes me think it would also be great on MacBooks. TouchID is still pretty useful and I am glad it is being brought back.

Been hanging onto my 8-plus - this might finally convince me to make the jump and lose the home button but keep the thumb ID.

Really curious if they actually call it “13” with its “unlucky” connotations.

12s maybe??

iPhone 22 is my first Face ID phone and I love it. I did have a Samsung S9 plus but that sucked.
Touch ID is cool but Face ID is better for me.

Underdisplay fingerprint is all good until you break the screen, replacement of home button always broke touch id so now screen replacement would do the same. apple needs to learn how to do authentication like android securely on the phones board hardware not externally so its just a reader and can be replaced. but why would they do that when they can chage you an arm and a leg for a replacement and service fees.

TouchID> Chipped screen. TouchID> FaceID.

The pandemic taught people how much more TouchID is a better functioning device than FaceID. I tried FaceID and I see why they like it but its not enough advantage over TouchID.

I had to move FaceID in specific angles for it to work, not to mention specific distances. It gives me a deformed screen. TouchID works with my phone flat, facing the other side, in my pocket, on my lap, anywhere my hand can reach! I also do not like the idea that the camera is always on.

If they will put a sensor in, just create a virtual home button with haptic feed back. Should work the same way as iphone 7 home button, as that button was a solid non-moving one and save me the magician finger waves around the screen to navigate around the OS.

That's what you get when you're stuck with a hapless CEO who's only interested in the bottomline and not the products or the users.
No, that's what happens when the previous Chief Design Officer leaves, and people finally undo all of the stupid design decisions he made in the pursuit of devices that were little more than two thin pieces of glass.

Seriously… that was Jony Ive's design vision. It's a great idea in science fiction, but in today's reality, it doesn't work as well. Pro users actually need HDMI and Ethernet and sometimes SD card readers, and charging ports that don't break or send the laptop flying if someone trips over the cord.

But not everyone lives and works in pristine glass offices. We're sitting in train stations, working in cafés and libraries, in cluttered home offices with kids and pets. Jony Ive's vision did not match up with the everyday reality of most users, and I think users are better off now that he's gone.

Ive was elevated to godlike status at Apple by Steve Jobs, and nobody felt they could go against him.

each have their pros and cons but both together on the phone is welcomed news if in fact true
I agree that both have their pros and cons, but Touch ID under the screen should obsolete Face ID and simultaneously allow the iPhone to utilize the entire surface area for a screen. No more notch missing from the screen. No stupid pinhole in the screen (I'm looking at you Samsung).

I think Apple knocked it out of the park with the 12 Pro design. I think it's the best all around phone considering features, display size, and weight. But I would replace it day 1 to get a version with touch ID under the screen.
I would love a phone with the form factor of the 12 mini but with Touch ID under the screen and no notch.

Cool addition, but I wish they had just made Face ID faster, or make it so when you tap your phone, instead of swiping up after Face ID scans, it does it automatically, a near instant unlock: seeing as that’s how Touch ID worked before.

I would caution people on getting excited and counting this analyst remark as already a 'done deal.' Analyst and leakers have been wrong before. There were rumors about promotion for the phones last year that never materialized etc.
