I was always happy with face ID until COVID and masks. After a year now of wearing a mask in public I hate face ID. Might as well not have any biometric ID system since I have to enter my pass code every time I use the phone. And I've quit using Apple Pay entirely since it is just easier and faster to pull the card out of my wallet and stick it in the reader.
... unless you happen to live in a country where you need to type your PIN with the keyboard which has been used by approximately 1,073 people before you after the last cleaning. To avoid that you want to use NFC, but that often has an upper limit of around 50 currency units. And at that point the only viable payment method is Apple Pay because it does not require you to touch the keyboard in any circumstances.

That is why I have only used Apple Pay during the last year. Works great but requires the password with masks.

I hope that Apple will add a fingerprint sensor. To have Face ID and the option for the fingerprint sensor would be good.

I would like one model to have a full screen display without the Notch, Face ID and Selfie Camera.

I didn't realize how much I loved Touch ID until I started using Face ID
This. I had an iPhone 7 plus for four years and finally replaced with an iPhone 12 pro. The camera upgrade is phenomenal, but I really miss Touch ID. Can't use Face ID with Apple Pay at the store because I'm wearing a mask.

Went from a 128GB original iphone SE (went through 3 of them because I loved the form factor) to an iphone 12 mini. Upgraded because the SE was getting laggy & the new cameras were compelling.

ABSOLUTELY HATE face ID, and this thing is too damn big.

Give me back my touch ID. i don’t want my phone unlocking just because it sees me looking it’s way, and please, an actual mini mini.

also, get rid of the camera bump. i skin my phones for pocketability. It’d be nice to be able to have the phone sit flat on my desk & not have it wobble when I tap it.

If this years rumours are true then great zoom is only thing really missing. Which from sounds won’t be here until 2022/2023

Other wants from me will be hopefully added in iOS 15
Yeah I don’t have high hopes for better zoom or macro,it’s really annoying though, you could take really neat pictures and completely ditch a real camera if iPhone had Macro mode like Samsung S21 Ultra and 5x or better zoom.
(Samsung S21 Ultra has 10x optical zoom)
But sadly even iPhone 12 Pro Max is stuck with just 2.5x zoom with no closeup capability at all.
That’s weak.

Apple needs to realise not all users only care about silly selfies and happy with such basic camera.

3D Optical Touch ID would be wonderful. It's been available on Android devices for more than two years already. The pandemic has highlighted the need for biometric security that works when someone is wearing a mask, though even pre-pandemic it was an issue in some countries.

Other features we'd like to see Apple include are:
1. Active Stylus (Apple Pencil for iPhone)
2. Reverse wireless charging (supposedly the hardware actually already exists in the 12, but it isn't turned on)
3. USB-C (unlikely to happen because of Mfi royalties)
4. 120 Hz displays (should be on 13)
5. Foldable display (probably not until the 14 or 15)

iPhone Mini sales have been disappointing so I doubt that we'll see new small form-factor phones.

Apple has fallen way behind flagship Android models in terms of cameras. Hopefully the 13 will address this.

Yes, I am. And those are exactly the people that are going to make masks the norm. Instead of recognizing they are not experts they do what 'feels right' and end up making everyone else's life worse. IDK why we are letting states have any say in this. If it was a foreign country invading our beaches no state would tell the federal government 'hey, we got this, we don't need your aid.'
it's called "states rights". Even though we have a Federal Government here in the United States(I'm explaining this to those folks that aren't familiar with this), each state can enact their own laws as they see fit. Take Nevada for instance. Gambling AND Brothels ARE legal in certain counties(Again another subset as other counties don't allow Brothels at all in Nevada). Unfortunately that also is a problem as far as Covid19 goes. Some states are going back to normal as fast as possible(Texas, Florida). IMHO I dis-agree with this. Time will tell. I live in CA. Interesting times here fore sure....

States have control because that’s exactly how this country was constructed with our Constitution, directly in response to preventing an excessively strong Federal government. Like it or not, it’s not going to change.

Even if we should be wearing masks, most here won’t.
Except that the Federal Government is responsible for regulating interstate and foreign commerce, and declaring war. All of which we either are doing or should be doing when it comes to COVID. States have no right to set public health policy if there is evidence that the disease frequently crosses state lines.

I agree. It should have both. I suspect a reason we don't have both has to do with device security and allowing multiple seamless unlock mechanisms.

International and interstate commerce, war, and national emergencies supersede these state rights.

I quite like the addition of both, so long as it is not an either or and one can use both, for example using touch id at night and facial recognition through the day until one puts a mask on where one would obviously use touch id, hopefully this will work seamlessly without a need to go into settings. I like the face id on my phone and would like the extra enhancement of touch id.

I just saw a rumor that the iPhone 14 would use a periscope zoom. That’s where the light comes into the lens, hits a mirror, turns a corner and travels down a short tube to the sensor. It’s the only way to get longer zoom lengths without thick cameras and moving lenses. The current 2X zoom is nearly useless. For me, you have to get to at least 5x to really see benefit.

I was hesitant to make the switch from touch id to face id. But now it is so convenient to just look at my phone to unlock it, I don't think I could go back. My husband on the other hand is clinging to his 7 plus because he doesn't like touch ID and isn't interested in an Android or the SE. So maybe this will be the phone for him.

Why would it be unusable outdoors?

FaceID seems to work fine outdoors, especially if it’s an open area and I can take the mask off.
Sorry I didn’t mention it clearly but Face ID is useless when I’m not at home or at office. In Taiwan we do wear a mask everywhere, even at outdoor places as they are still full of people.

Just curious, does this new feature on the watch just open the Iphone or can you log into sites just by unlocking the watch. For example, on bank apps that take Face ID to log in, can you do it by just opening the Watch? That's where I like Touch ID over face ID. It's more for logging into apps like Fidelity or Chase rather than just opening the phone.
It only unlocks the phone, you need to enter your password or lift your mask for any further authentication.

I was wearing gloves due to winter weather and a mask due to the pandemic. You could say I was between a rock and a hard place at times. I think having Touch ID return will be great, especially as extra layer of security for 2fa.

Apple just keeps trickling the features year after year.
