+1, agreed. Also how about no camera bump, either? That’s the ONLY thing stopping me from swapping my iPhone SE (2016, the One True SE) for the latest model. They finally tossed that horrendous iPhone 6 body with rounded edges and went back to the flat edges, and made the mini size as it should be. I was ready to go for iPhone 12 mini, but nope... camera bump. Boo.
Notch is kinda dumb, too... just make it the whole bezel and stop trying to be “clever” with corner swipes. Sheesh. Unnecessary complexity for no real gain.
I find it interesting that the design is so polarizing, and to an extent I agree with you. On the one hand, a notch is by no means ideal due to less screen real estate and a protruding camera bump makes the phone not lie flat, as well as detracts from the overall aesthetic.

On the other hand, a notch enables them to build in sensors for Face ID which includes security features that no other phone can offer, and a protruding camera module enables them to include leading edge camera tech, keeping iPhone picture/video quality competitive in comparison to other phones in the same price class.

In the end it's a question of form over function: you can't have the best of both worlds. Either you give up on the most secure face scanning and leading edge camera technology, or you accept the compromised aesthetic and embrace the added functionality/features.

In my case, I fully embrace the comprise that Apple currently offers. Keeping Face ID and decreasing the notch size is certainly an upgrade over the previous generation, however losing it completely would be a loss. As soon as screen technology is advanced enough to hide Face ID behind the screen completely, that would be the ultimate win. But until that technology is mature enough to integrate into the newest iPhone, I am okay with the compromise of a notch.

Every time I watch a video by Lewis I feel bad for him. He is so wretchedly bitter at Apple.

EDIT: FYI, I am no iJustine fan either. I have come to like/respect MKBHD. He is not afraid to throw punches but also isn't blatantly hating on Apple the entire time.
LinusTechTips takes the top position there i think..

I would like a full screen. However, I am understanding that at this moment in time, technology hasn't quite caught up with MR desire. As such, I don't even think about the notch.
Yeah, I think some people believe that every part of the iPhone's design is down to Apple's aesthetic choices and not technological necessity. It's as if someone at Apple decides that it would look good if the camera lenses protruded from the back of the phone and having a notch would be a better look than a full screen.

The notch has never really bothered me either, I just see the 'ears' as a bonus bit of extra display space for the time and signal/battery indicators, rather than the notch being a loss of screen. Ironically I think some people would have been happier if Apple had just extended the notch across the whole width of the phone, losing the extra real estate of the ears.

I stopped watching him loooong time ago. I even blocked his channel so youtube won't recommend it for me. His content is just trash, even for me who was not even an Apple user. With so many tech youtubers out there, I don't see why I should be watching his.

Looks like a nice, but not critical upgrade for 11 Pro Max owners. Will depend on the quality of the Promotion, camera, battery life for me. 11 Pro Max has been a beast.

Please stop with this man and using him as a source for ANYTHING!
All MacRumors does by promoting his videos is lower their standards.

I'm no fan of her either but for totally unrelated and stupid reasons. I was a presenter at a tech conference (just a small one and the first year it was held in my state). My session was one of the last ones of the day but one a majority of folks signed up for. She showed up at the event just before my presentation and of course word spread like wildfire and within minutes everyone just had to see the youtube celebrity as she was live streaming and vlogging.

What would have been a packed room for my session had maybe 5 people in it.

It's totally stupid and ridiculous but ever since I've never been able to watch her videos again. 🤷‍♂️

I really dislike the ever growing cluster of offset "insect eyes" on the iphone. Looks like an antenna array off a starwars space ship. I'd like to see them put all of them under a circular tinted lens centered on the phone so it just looks like a normal cameral lens.
Horrible idea. It would be butt ugly and the tint would reduce low light camera performance.

This shill is a scammer. Who remembers when he began that scam claiming to give away hundreds of iPhones for subscribing to his channel? He showed a pickup full of empty iPhone boxes, which were actually just made on a printer. Well he got the subscribers, and none of them received their promised iPhone. He quickly deleted the videos promoting the giveaway and would ban people that commented about it.

Or what about the “Later Case” fiasco, when he copied the design of a phone case he reviewed on his channel, and sold it as his own. This company paid him $5000 to ”review” it. Lew then removed the original review and banned people that commented about how he copied the case he was sent for review.

He’s a loser.

That is entirely how YouTuber makes money or gain clicks. No difference from newspapers or news outlet using clickbait headline to attract more views.

Anyone who has brain will understand nobody would ever give away hundreds of iPhone for free. In which universe do you think this is possible?

Why would anyone think viewers are entitled to received free staff? It is nice to get one for free, if YouTuber follow his/her promise. If they don’t, they don’t.

People here hate on him, because he talk **** about Apple. Some of his criticism is reasonable and some are purely for clickbait. If someone is only talking Apple in good way, he/she is not really trust worthy.

Apple in its own, has lots of things done that are anti-consumers

This guy is worse than herpes. Can you stop promoting his stupid videos?

Man the hate. He’s been around since Blasse has and built up a solid business.
- the fact you’re annoyed SHOWS he knows EXACTLY what to do:
the right phrases, changes of speech, jokes, camera angle etc. It’s all premeditated towards success.

Why do we have such a society that hates so much on others’ success that we cannot understand? Why do we hate on others whom are doing better than we are OR are more popular that we are?

^ I never understood, participated nor liked this … ever.

It needs to weigh less. My 11 Pro Max is a literal brick and slightly too heavy as I tend to hold it for extended periods with my pinky finger supporting the base in one hand. Either that or I downgrade to a smaller size and just give up the bigger screen.

Because the notch is annoying and always has been. It's amazing how people don't want a completely full screen without obstruction on their phone. This smaller notch is still a notch, though. Seems pointless. Can't wait for them to figure out how to cram all that tech under the screen.
Because I literally stopped noticing it less than week after buying my XR.

I would take a notchless, full-screen iPhone if Apple made one, but until then I just don't care if my phone has a notch.

I think about it every time I watch a movie or play a game and the notch is there. It's like having something on the TV that you can't remove.
The vast majority of videos I watch do not stretch to the sides of the screen unless I force them to, but if I force that then the top and bottom get cropped which has way more of a negative impact on the video than the notch.

How do none of the videos you watch not go from left to right like literally every video ever? Are you just watching old 480p DVDs you ripped and put onto your phone?

Because the iPhone screen is wider than HD/4K content which has a 16:9 aspect ratio; like every video on the various streaming services. If your videos are forced to the screen width, then the top and bottom are cropped. Wouldn't it be funny if you had been watching vertically cropped videos all this time while commenting about how left side is cropped by the notch.
